Well this hotel is great but for one thing. The staff are really friendly, the hotel is kept very clean and tidy at all times. It's nice to have a bath tub with shower and they are also of very good standard. A great place for the young, old, couples, and families to stay... more

Our original booking with hotel Atkinia got cancelled two days before we left for Bulgaria. Very fortunately we got placed in Hotel Lion, and I'm so pleased we did as the hotel was miles better than Atkinia. The hotels rooms were well decorated and equipped, with lovely... more

The hotel was good with the room being a large size and we also had 2 balconys as we were situated on the corner the pool was nice (there are 2) and was close to the main street and only 200-300m from the beach. the only down side was the food, it was mainly simple food but... more

This hotel only provides one entrance into it which means going over a bridge. Not suitable for the elderly or mothers with pushchairs. Hotel itself not bad but staff very rude and food was not nice at all, we had to go out to eat. That’s why the bridge was a problem. ... more

Hotel is absolutely gorgeous, almost brand new. The rooms were spacious and lovely decor. Make sure to use the air con though because they ended up very hot throughout the night. The pool was huge but you had to catch the sun loungers early. Staff were pretty quiet but for... more

Dont go to Bulgaria
My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week in Sunny Beach and I can safely say that we would never return or recommend this to a friend. The resort as a whole is similar to Blackpool pleasure beach - tacky and purpose built with nothing more than hotels and restaurants. If you are looking for culture or tradition in any way, Sunny Beach is not for you. The people are rude and will try to rip you off at any opportunity. If you are owed change back, you will need to ask for it in most places! I got my handbag stolen while swimming in the sea and my boyfriend got his clothes taken from the beach. While this has turned in to another amusing anecdote to take back with us, we were not impressed at the time! We also got ripped of by one of the many rickshaw style taxis that go up and down the main strip. Ensure you always clarify the price before getting on one of these. The hotel itself was nice and very clean. Good location only 5 mins walk from the beach. We had a huge king size bed and nice balcony overlooking the pool. The maids cleaned every day and aside from the air conditioning being turned off for our last 2 days (presumably to save money as wasnt that hot!), we had no complaints with the room itself. We went half board but only ate in the hotel restaurant twice. The food was basic and by no means impressive. There is a good choice of hot and cold food for breakfast though which makes up for the below-standard evening meals. Saying this, it is in-keeping with the quality of food all over sunny beach - terrible, although we did find a nice chinese place! Overall, if you do choose to stay here, the Lion is a good choice but I would seriously reconsider this country for a holiday.
the bridge
nice clean hotel staff not very friendly. only one entrance over the bridge. not suitable for the elderly. only upside the rooms were good and the hotel was clean. would not return to this hotel. sunny beach is a lovely resort will go back to another hotel
loved hotel appartments
very well situated appartments, not too far from beach front or resort centre, rooms very clean and tidy, maids in every day, well sized pools, very happy staff always willing to help. Only complaint was that the food was not cooked fully, chicken was always on offer, but was very pink or red inside, also eggs not cooked, most food gave my wife and i bad stomachs,we booked half board but ate out alot at recommended eateries. Would stay in same hotel again, but only for a week next time
Excelent hotel, quiet location.
Just back from 2 weeks in Sunny Beach staying HB at the Lion Hotel. We arrived 3am and was pleasantly surprised, room tastefully dec, huge double bed, great shower, and spotlessly clean.Maid service daily, towels changed daily if you wish. We were in the adjacent block to the main hotel. Very quiet not that there is ever much noise. In a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle. And the only entertainment at hotel was karaoke once a week. We had med hotel as our rep, very helpful, and informative at the welcome meeting.Food in hotel buffet style very repetative, pork chicken edible but no variations. Picky eaters may be discouraged. We found plenty good food places and very cheap!! Hotel Kicache, Dijannys, Condor Garden all off the main street. Arizona and Fat Cat on the main promenade. Would have rated the hotel higher only dissapointment was no courtesy room.We didn't leave for airport till midnight and was out of our room at midday. You could keep your room at a charge till 5pm, which we didnt feel was worth it. We changed for our journey home in the toilets. Suitcases were left at the bottom on the stairs so had to keep checking on them. Previous reviews mentioned the staff, english minimal, we found that with most of the resort. Trips we booked through Lucky tours (behind the glarus hotel) Sozopol, Blue Mountains(brilliant chairlift is a must), Sunset cruise, Khans tent, the only dissapointment was the Bulgarian night very russian orientated. We had 4 kylie songs. The best bit of the evening was the fire walking. Also recomment Nessabar it is only a short distance away by bus (very cramped 1.40 lev for 2 return. Or the boat from Sunny beach. You do get fed up of the tickets in your face and the taxi drivers hounding you for business. Had a brilliant holiday and would recommend the Lion Hotel
good hotel
we have just come home from sunny beach ( been twice now) and it was just as good as the first time good weather, nice clean beach, good people, and nice and cheap we stayed at the lion hotel 4star a good clean hotel with freindly staff you dont have to be bored in sunny beach as there is that much to do and see and plenty of excurtions to please everybody i was amazed to see the hotel i stayed in only 2years ago was gone and amasive hotel and shopping complex built in its place sunny beach is getting bigger and i hope it does not outgrow itself but iam sure anybody going will enjoy it
nice hotel, good food, resort very built up....
Just back from a week at the Lion Hotel, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. The hotel is nice and modern. Our room was not huge but we had a big balcony. We stayed half board, breakfast was fine with a good choice of continental and hot food each morning. The a la carte menu for lunch and dinner was excellent and we ate there a couple of times. Food elsewhere in the resort was average. There are 2 nice pools and a pool side bar. The sunloungers are free but not very comfortable so we went to the beach every day (9 euro for 2 sun loungers and umbrella). The location of the hotel is good - about 10 minutes walk to the beach etc. There is a hair and nail salon in the hotel which is very cheap. (10 euro for a manicure/blow dry) Sunny Beach itself is a very built up resort - the beach front has a long strip of high rise hotels and tacky street stalls. Being such a big resort and as there are so many nationalities there I wasn't mad about the nighlife but there is a good choice of discos and bars. There is one awful Irish bar which should be avoided. Overall I would recommend Sunny Beach as a cheap week in the sun. I imagine it will be less popular when the euro is introduced as it is charmless relative to resorts in spain, portugal etc.
Very nice hotel!
We stayed in Lion for twelve days in july and really liked the hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a fridge and tv with English and German channels. Every room has a nice balcony. The pool is very nice. The food was nice as well, we ate in the hotel almost every day because it was so good. Enough choices for everyone! It's a 6 minute walk to the beach from this hotel.
Great Hotel for a Great Holiday!!!
Well, I know there's been the odd negative comment about this hotel (and I agree, the food wasn't fantastic) but I couldn't really fault it at all. The staff were very friendly, the hotel and the room was immaculate (cleaned every day), the pool was lovely (although slightly chilly!) and I don't think we could have picked a better location in sunny beach. everything was within easy walking distance, yet still far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip. Would definitely recommend it to friends!!! PS great place to eat was mamacitas mexican restaurant, also the trip to nessebar is a must!
lion hotel
We arrived back from the lion hotel last night 2nd july. Hotel is lovely, very clean and the pool is nice but the food is terrible. If you like chicken nuggets, hot dogs and pork scewers then this is the hotel for you if not go self catering, the food is the same every night,we ended up going out to eat. Some of the staff are friendly but others are pretty ignorant
Lovely hotel, food pretty poor and annoying restaurant staff
The hotel itself was lovely. Very clean and the room was huge. Pool was also great and in great location. The food however was not very nice and the restaurant staff tend to stand there and watch you eat and before you have chance to swallow your last mouthful they whip your plate away!
