Our original booking with hotel Atkinia got cancelled two days before we left for Bulgaria. Very fortunately we got placed in Hotel Lion, and I'm so pleased we did as the hotel was miles better than Atkinia. The hotels rooms were well decorated and equipped, with lovely spacious bathrooms. The only downside was the room wasn't massive for two twin beds. However the hotel was located in a quiet part of Sunny beach but with a short walk to the main strip.
Word of warning if you fancy getting a proper nights rest don't opt for accommodation on the main strip as it gets very noisy.
We stayed half board and the food was ok. Nothing special but they did provide different types of food everyday (this wasn't the case for breakfast though).
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The pool was super with plenty of free sunbeds available, however the water was very cold! Very refreshing on a hot day.
Would definitely stay in the hotel again.

my husband and i have just returned from hotel lion sunny beach and found the hotel to be clean with a lovely large room . the location was,nt that good as we were surrounded by building work the hotel is in a unfinished part of sunny beach its not a very attractive walk to the bars and night life you need to stay in one of the hotels closer to the beach as a lot of sunny beach is still under construction.the hotel staff were not very friendly and the dining room to small for the ammount of people staying there, we had to wait for a table most mornings to get our breakfast which was only just edible it was always cold .there was never any cups for the tea and coffee no tea spoons no glasses and no knives and forks everyone was complaining and the staff did nothing about it. The food at tea times was cold and unedible people just looked at it and walked away it looked like cold slop we ate out every night so we paid half board for nothing. plenty of eating places and bars food and drink cheap in them its a good job as the hotel food was crap. we liked the resort and would go again but to a better hotel nearer the beach and bars or perhaps when the resort of sunny beach is finished.

The hotel was good with the room being a large size and we also had 2 balconys as we were situated on the corner the pool was nice (there are 2) and was close to the main street and only 200-300m from the beach. the only down side was the food, it was mainly simple food but even if you got there first it would sometimes be cold but with it being under £3 for a hamburger and beer in one of the resturants this was not to large a problem.
the nightlife
what can i say this hotel is only 100m from disco orange a large club with 2 fooms with different music i would recomend it although if you wish for a real party experience then go onto the main street and turn right follow on past the stalls for about 5mins and turn right there you will see DEN GLADE VIKING an amayzing club the best in sunny beach by far but there are so many its unbelieveable just look around but make sure and go to den glade viking.

The hotel was very clean with and the staff i found overall very friendly. I think this is problably the best hotel i have stayed in since visiting any european country. The food was better than i expected, seeing as there was a huge variety of different nationalities, which might i add all seemed to try and converse with everyone to make a pleasant stay for all. For breakfast I had cornflakes or chocolate cereal to start and then tomatoes, cucumber and a choice of meats or cheese, then eggy bread or scrambled egg, beans and bacon. then a choice of croissants. For evening meal two soups on offer with really nice hot bread, a choice of salad, a stew with vegetables or pizza and chips or burgers etc and beautifully crafted melt in the mouth cakes for desert. If you complain about this, then I dont think anyone will satisfy you and your better off not going abroad. When i go abroad i want to sample their cuisine not be stuck with fish n chips etc.

Just got back from 2 weeks half-board for myself, wife, 2 daughters and my dad (51, 45, 25, 23 & 78).
Good points: Very clean; big beds; chambermaids very good; good size pools; adequate sunbeds; breakfast menu had a fair selsection: scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, baked beans (not heinz), streaky bacon, frensh toast, pancakes, cold meats, cheese, cereals, various breads (toaster available) and sliced fruits . Nice soups for dinner.
OK points: safe box (reception) £2/day; Waiters/Waitresses some friendlier than others.
Bad points: Drinks relatively expensive compared to some other hotels: 300ml beer = 3lev (£1,50) 500ml = 4lev (£2) Bottle of wine = 17lev (£8.50) and not so good. Reseraunt service was variable depending on who served you.
Worst points: DINNER - Not a great deal ofc hoice and very poor quality- dont expect steaks or ckicken breast - definately NOT 4**** - every night you had a pork dish; chicken dishes were mainly bones; beef was nearly non exisrant - except for something resembling burgers. Fish dishes were either small bits of white fish in breadcrumbs or mackerel in tomatoe sauce. Pizza and chips available every day. Also salads and some veg were available. Desserts ran out early. Our advice (if you've already booked) is to dine early, as they run out of stuff quickly, and for example replace fish with fish fingers.

This hotel only provides one entrance into it which means going over a bridge. Not suitable for the elderly or mothers with pushchairs.
Hotel itself not bad but staff very rude and food was not nice at all, we had to go out to eat. That’s why the bridge was a problem.
The bar at pool kept running out of drinks and even tea bags. Been back to Sunny Beach but another hotel and had a wonderful holiday.
We stayed at the hotel Regina will go back to Regina again and again.

Hotel is absolutely gorgeous, almost brand new. The rooms were spacious and lovely decor. Make sure to use the air con though because they ended up very hot throughout the night.
The pool was huge but you had to catch the sun loungers early. Staff were pretty quiet but for the ladies go and visit the nail shop in the hotel. You get a hand massage and manicure and painting for only £4, any design you like. I had mine done twice in the week.
Breakfast was lovely in the hotel; we ate out most nights as it was cheap as chips.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday even though the weather was 37 degrees most days. Very hot.

My boyfriend and I (22 & 18) have just got back from 2 weeks in Sunny Beach.
Hotel Lion was nice, looked good, very nice pools and pretty clean. We enjoyed ourselves although over two weeks we struggled to find one friendly Bulgarian, including the hotel staff. Bought a drink each on the first night with our meal and didn't tip, for the next three nights we were not offered any drinks at all with our meal. Moral of the story- always tip!
The food was good however; nice breakfasts although evening meals felt a bit like school canteen food despite having good variety.
Hotel was only about 10mins from the beach and the beach was good. I decided to avoid the sea though for 2 weeks due to hundreds of jelly fish! Apart from that it was nice and hot but to get a good spot on the beach you need to be prepared to pay for a sun lounger. Not really an issue because everything is so cheap (possibly the best thing about the holiday!).
Night life was everywhere, lots of cool bars. However not as many clubs as I expected but the one major one is about 3 mins from the hotel. Night life tended to be quite early too. The resort is not as party orientated as I thought it would be, it's well suited for everyone really, including families.
Lots of places to eat out but don't expect any culture anywhere. There are probably 5 McDonalds in the resort, even one at the airport and a KFC. For the rest its pizza, chicken kebabs, jacket potatoes etc.
Overall it was nice to get away for two weeks but glad it was a cheap deal and would not return in a hurry, mainly due to so many rude and unhelpful people and the jelly fish!

Well this hotel is great but for one thing. The staff are really friendly, the hotel is kept very clean and tidy at all times. It's nice to have a bath tub with shower and they are also of very good standard. A great place for the young, old, couples, and families to stay but. The food in the hotel that you get, not for breakfast, even tho i would say it was mostly for German tastes they were catering for. It is the evening meals that are bad. Most nights it was the same thing with maybe roast potatoes instead of mash, but very much the same thing every night.
You can buy lunch there which is of very good quality and a large choice.
