Myself and a friend have just returned from a fantastic week at Costa Calero after having a wonderful time.
The hotel room had the most wonderful views out to sea and definitely had the wow factor when we entered on the first night of our stay, I couldn't believe how lucky I was to come to such a wonderful place and it felt very special.
The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable with a wonderful modern bathroom and the facilities you would expect in this superior hotel: beautiful decor, hairdryer, fridge, sky tv. The maids were excellent leaving the room each day as good as the night we first came with fresh linens and towels.
The bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and my only tip would be if you wish to speak to reception phone! They seem to have the rule to answer the phone even if you are standing infront of them which was frustrating.
The food and drink is generally of a high standard but not awe inspiring so it may be worth venturing to the marina which has several places to eat for a change as no matter how nice the restaurant is and it is lovely we all like a change.
The wine and beer is plentiful and all eating areas feel friendly and comfortable. The piano bar in the hotel with various live musicians eg a violinist, a sax player, different musicians each evening, added a lovely luxury touch to a bar with a lovely outlook and ambience. Well worth a visit.
The spa is indeed worth visiting with its Roman baths, sauna, steam room and pool but if you want a beauty treatment book in advance or the moment you arrive as it books up quick.
The Thomson excursions are expensive and the island is only small and easy to get around so might be worth doing most things yourselves as car hire is not expensive. The Fuerteventura trip was very disappointing and not worth the high price but the Lanzarote explorer we found very interesting made more so by the information imparted by the knowledgeable guide, a Cockney born Canarian! He was lovely who made the island tour worthwhile. The places of interest were Jameos del Agua, Cesar Manriques house, Teguise and perhaps the place I found the most interesting was the guided tour of Tindaya National Park- a quarter of the island has and still is affected by the volcanic history of the islands and it was fascinating to see.
I would like to have visited the wine vineyards and explored the pretty mountain village of Haria but I will do that next time along with some body boarding on Famara beach!
I only came back home hours ago but I miss it already and cannot wait to go back for more Canarian adventures and would definitely go back to the hotel as it is a haven of luxury and a great chill-out place to stay. I feel a luck lady to have been. Enjoy yourselves!

My partner and I stayed at the Costa...

Feb 2008, Miss G Bradbury

My partner and I stayed at the Costa Calero last month to celebrate our recent
engagement. As it was a special occasion, I emailed the hotel beforehand to try
and secure a room with a sea view.
When we arrived this is indeed what we got – our room was on the 4th floor and
we had lovely views across the sea and resort. The rooms are really nice, & very
clean, thats for sure. Though it was a little annoying that the rooms did not have tea and
coffee making facilities. We were able to hire a kettle from the reception
where they request a 50 Euro returnable deposit. However do be prepared to
have to seek out your cups daily as the cleaner always takes them away!
Costa Calero is a lovely little resort. It's definitely the most upmarket
resort on the island. The marina has some lovely little restaurants and shops
and the hill that some people have mentioned – really isn't that steep!
We hired a car from the hotel for 4 days taking advantage of the 4 for the
price of 3 offer they had running and travelled the island. The Caesar
Manrique foundation is well worth a visit along with the National Timanfaya but
we suggest you avoid paying the 8 Euros to enter the Jameos del Aqua as this
was a complete let down especially as half is being worked on and so you can't
gain entry.
The Spa within the hotel is also a must we frequented it nearly everyday we
were there. There is a 13-euro charge per person to enter the Spa but the
supermarket in the Marina gives away half price entry vouchers – so we made
full use of these!
We would only fault the hotel on its food – it looks impressive but it really
does lack flavour and so most mealtimes were disappointing to say the least!
And also the evening entertainment was a little draining – cringe worthy in places
especially the light show!
Overall the hotel is lovely and I would definitely recommend this to friends
and family and would almost certainly return there myself!

Stayed at the Iberostar Costa Calero...
8 / 10
Jul 2007, Ms S Tyler

Stayed at the Iberostar Costa Calero during 9-16 July 07.
Rooms were spotless, with TV (English channels limited to Sky News and BBC News 24), safe (2 Euro daily charge) loads of wardrobe space, nice sized bathroom, fridge, and good sized balcony. We were on the 4th floor and had a beautiful view over the sea, mountains, and complex.
Food we found good. Loads of choice. You can help yourself to soft drinks (Coke, Diet Coke, Fanta Orange, Fanta Lemon), water, wine and draught beer at the lunch time buffet and order wine with your dinner in the evening. Sandwiches are served at the pool bar until 6pm in the evening. The bars are open for drinks (alcoholic/non-alcoholic) from 10am to about 1am.
Entertainment at night is watchable and good fun (it's what you make it).
We never had a problem getting a sun bed, but I can imagine at the height of the season this may be different.
Beach towels are given to you when you book in. A deposit of 10 Euro per towel is required. If you lose the towel you don't get your deposit back. These towels can be changed daily at reception.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful; the only frustration being at busy times you could have a long wait to be served at the bars.
There is a complementary bus which takes you into Puerto del Carmen, which has seen better days, but it does the job.
The harbour is a 5 minute walk down quite a steep hill from the complex. There are a selection of shops and various different themed restaurants/pubs e.g., Irish, British, Italian.
My partner and I really enjoyed our holiday at the Iberostar Costa Calero and would definitely go back.

Jul 2007, Mrs A Lovelass

We visited the Costa Calero Hotel In November,2006. As always, I was a little apprehensive prior to our holiday. However, we needn't have worried at all. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Costa Calero hotel.
The place was spotless and the staff very nice and efficient. It was my husband’s birthday during our stay and on the day, a waiter came to our room with a bottle of champagne and a letter wishing my husband a happy birthday. Both of us were so touched by this gesture and my husband felt really 'special'.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing stress-free holiday. Everything was just perfect, so much so, that yesterday I booked again to visit the hotel this year. I look forward to lovely food, a clean room, and another fantastic holiday. Thank you to all at Costa Calero.

This is a lovely hotel and we have just spent a very relaxing week there. We stayed on an all-inclusive basis. The hotel is immaculately clean and well laid-out, the staff are very efficient and friendly, and altogether there is a really comfortable "feel" to the place.
The visitors were a mix of nationalities, mainly English and Spanish with a few German, Belgian, and Italian people. The age of visitors ranged from young families with babies to the quite elderly and infirm. Being quite a new hotel, access is good to all areas with plenty of lifts and slopes, ramps etc.
The room was comfortable and an adequate size for two and was cleaned thoroughly every day by friendly and smiling staff. The public areas are comfortable and spacious, especially the pool areas which are particularly lovely, with little areas divided by flowering shrubs and hedges so you never feel crowded and you can feel quite private if you want to.
Plenty of sunbeds and parasols. There are three pools, one of which is salt water and one of the seating areas is sandy so you can get a real feeling of being on a beach. Another pool is surrounded by a lovely lawn studded with trees and shrubs.
An important point for the less-able visitor is that the pools are very easily accessible by several "staircases" (not those awful steep ladders) inside all the pools with hand-rails to assist in getting in and out. We did not sample the spa so cannot comment on that other than it looks very nice.
The restaurant for breakfast and dinner is spacious and nicely laid out, again you don't feel crowded at all. You can eat either inside or on a covered outside terrace. The nice thing is you get waited on for your drinks at dinner, which is a nice change from some all-inclusive where you have to get your own.
The lunch-time restaurant is near to the pool areas and is almost all open-air.
The food is plentiful and nicely laid out, although we thought the meals were a bit samey, and if you were staying for any more than one week, you would possibly get a bit bored with it. Having said that, you would not go hungry as there was plenty of choice for all tastes.
The drinks in the all-inclusive were quite good, the wine was reasonable and there was a good choice of drinks and cocktails included. We thought the supplements charged for some drinks were more expensive than other all-inclusive we have stayed at, but I suppose they have to make their money somewhere.
The night-club area is really comfortable and smart and the entertainment was quite varied but of varying quality, but nonetheless enjoyable. The hotel's animation team were good, particularly Rio.
There was a wedding while we were there, but it did not affect the holidaymakers in any way. They have a lovely outdoor area for the weddings and they had a pretty flowery archway.
A couple of less-than positive points: there are quite a few cats around the grounds and in the outside-area of the dining room and they can be annoying; the piano bar is not accessible unless you can climb the four or five steps up to it; although the gorgeous harbour is only a few hundred yards away, it is VERY steep and unsuitable for anyone with mobility or health issues. We had hired a car so were able to visit the harbour.
All in all, a beautiful spot, quiet and relaxing. If you are thinking of going, visit the Iberostar website where they have a really good virtual tour of the hotel and grounds which is very accurate and informative.

May 2007, Mrs TJ Sherwood

Dates: 19th – 26th April 2007
We had a very relaxing week at the Costa Calero. It was as wonderfully quiet as promised, the décor was good and the staff were very friendly. Most don’t speak English but really appreciate if you try some basic Spanish on them!
Our room was very clean and we had a small piece of garden where we did most of our sunbathing. As a couple in our thirties, we did find ourselves among the younger guests, but that really wasn’t a problem because we specifically wanted a place to chill out in.
The marina, with small supermarket and plenty of restaurants are only a 5 minute walk from the resort. There is a spa onsite, which was a nice treat but the daily rate just to ‘take the waters’ was a little steep.
Things to know - You will need 10 Euros in CASH for each returnable pool towel deposit and weekly safe hire is 16 Euros but this can be paid for on a card.
There were a couple of things that stopped this being a 10/10. Firstly, we were not told that the main pool was closed for annual maintenance - even our Rep didn’t know anything about it. There were 2 other pools to use which was fine but the noise from the workmen wasn't ideal.
We also found that the food was a bit ‘iffy’. Although there was nothing wrong with the quantity of food, the meals tended to be the same every day and the actual quality wasn’t as good as I hoped.
If you feel like a quiet and relaxing holiday, I would recommend the Iberostar.
However, next time I would go half board and use the restaurants that are nearby instead.

We have just returned having spent 10...

Apr 2007, Mrs J Hayes

We have just returned having spent 10 days at Costa Calero. It was fantastic.
Our first time in Lanzarote - lucky with the weather by all accounts. Some days up to 32 degrees but with a lovely breeze.
The hotel was marvellous, helpful and friendly staff, great food - (buffet style with many choices for young and old), great animation team and great choice of holiday for a family.
We did not miss the beaches; there were plenty of pools to choose from. They even offered scuba diving for children for free.
The mini-club was good, sometimes not very well organised but the staff worked very hard. We tried archery, had fun with the pool games and won many medals, a free visit to the wonderful spa and some champagne.
The view from our room was fantastic overlooking the sea and Fuerteventura in the distance.
I would recommend hiring a vehicle - we hired a jeep for 4 days, (from the hotel), and saw all over the island. There is so much to see and the landscape is incredible.
We rode on camels, saw volcanoes up close, visited caves, sampled wine from the vineyards and went to the market in Teguise. We were told to haggle but the sellers were having none of it!
The hotel has many weddings which was fun to watch but did not interfere with the holiday makers.
Overall we would return to the Costa Calero and hope to see the same animation team as they were superb.

We are a group of ladies who holiday together in March every year. For the past 6 years we have stayed in an Iberostar hotel in Tenerife, but this year fancied a change and came to Iberostar Costa Calero in Lanzarote.
This is a fantastic hotel in a quiet location with a beautiful marina minutes away.
Staff-very friendly and helpful. The animation team were very good and very friendly. Some of our group became 'stars' and performed in Grease!
Food and drink - very good selection and quality.
Rooms - we all had rooms next to each other as requested, with a terrace and gardens and our own sun beds. Maid service was very good with towels changed every day and frequent bed linen changes.2 large bottles of water were left in the rooms every day.
Entertainment - generally very good hotel entertainment with outside performers 5 nights a week.
Grounds - well tended grounds with abundant flowers. Lots of terraces which gave a feeling of privacy. Loads of sun beds. Lovely swimming pools.
15 minutes from Arecife airport. No aircraft noise at hotel.
We went to Rancho Texas one evening. What a great show with a good meal and drinks included in entrance price. We went on an organised tour, but another time we would just get taxis.
The 'animation team' were great and we all joined in with the activities, eg aqua aerobics, archery, darts, shooting, volley ball, table tennis, bingo(free)and a daily 'crazy' game.
If you want a very good very clean hotel and a fun but relaxing atmosphere this is definitely the hotel for you.

10/15 mins from the Airport, to a spotlessly clean hotel with excellent food, pools, bars, entertainment and service.
At all times there was plenty of space even at over 70% of occupancy. For every resident there are 2 sun chairs, so no worrying about getting them, what more could you want?
We have stayed at Iberostar Hotels before and have always been very satisfied, so as this was our first visit to Lanzarote we were happy to see that it lived up to its usual "Iberostar" quality.
We definitely recommend this to any one seeking a luxury, quiet, relaxing holiday. Grounds and the surrounding area (including the marina) are beautiful and spotless!
We will definitely be returning, next time for 2 weeks!

Just got back from a week's holiday...

Oct 2006, Ms R Morley

Just got back from a week's holiday at this resort and had an absolutely fantastic time. We went for a relaxing break after a hectic year and it was perfect.
The hotel is beautifully designed so it never feels busy and it was spotless everywhere. We were all inclusive and there was good choice of food and drink included, especially cocktail of the day (every day a different colour but always tasted the same!) The facilities are good especially the pools and the number of sun beds - because of the way the grounds are designed you always feel you have some privacy.
The resort is very quiet so not suitable if you want a lively holiday but the nearby marina is beautiful and there are some nice bars here.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to recharge their batteries and will definitely be going back myself.

This hotel is fantastic. This was our first time A/I and it won't be our last if this Hotel is anything to go by! I honestly cannot find anything to moan about! We had 2 lovely double rooms (one for me and husband and one for our 2 daughters).
I e-mailed the hotel before arrival and requested the rooms next to each other and if possible, terrace level and we got both, we even had our own little garden, with sun beds, so we could just step out of the patio doors, out through the 'garden' and onto the pool terraces. The hotel is spotless throughout. We were apprehensive about the food and had heard that sometimes with A/I the food is sub-standard, certainly not here, there was lots to choose from at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What we liked most was the choice of drinks (not that we are alcoholics or anything!) good quality spirits and beers etc, bottles of water as and when required - I could go on forever. We loved it and we will go back.
