There is plenty of parking space.
If you stay in this hotel, you would do better to stay in the more up-to-date part, or in the upper floor of the old house. We stayed in the old house, which would appeal to many with its period details. I like these details, but the four poster bed was rather phoney, the sofa felt as if it was stuffed with straw and not very comfortable, we could hear footsteps going up and down and overhead; I discovered that the little lobby outside the bedroom was in fact under the stairs to the upper floor. There was just a thin wooden board behind the dressing table that separated us from the room next door, so we heard clear sounds of laughter, etc. The shower room was useless. The shower was not at all easy to figure out, there were no instructions, and the person who showed us to the room was very perfunctory. There was no proper or separate base for the shower, so the whole floor of the room, which included a toilet and washbasin, was flooded because the water could not drain properly. The only redeeming aspect of our stay was the very good breakfast in a pleasant decor.

  • Activities: We visited Bath, and discovered some interesting streets. We liked the park by the bridge.

We have just returned from spending 2...

May 2007, Miss H Sharkey

We have just returned from spending 2 nights at this hotel over the May bank holiday. We found the accommodation advertised on the Longleat website.
Upon arrival I found that the 'staff' particularly unhelpful (we were staying in their on a diner, bed and breakfast basis). I wanted to ask questions i.e., travel time to Longleat; any recommended pubs and felt that I was obviously wasting their time.
Evening meal was terrible, very short staffed and we found the food awful.
I complained to reception the following day, again she seemed irritated that we did not tell the chef that evening, no apology offered - as obviously 'why was this her problem!’ (I did mention we were on eve 1 and you shouldn't tell a chef their food is bad if you have to eat there again!)
We did not eat at their restaurant again, so simply ordered a Dominios pizza! - Our final bill came to £388. After complaining the hotel let us off £20 as they changed us from D,B+B to B+B.
However we were told the following day that as our board basis had changed we would no longer be entitled to the advertised half price Longleat tickets. So we benefited less!!
Very disappointed, felt a total waste of money, if visiting Longleat again we would stay in the Bath Arms (see Longleat website) it is a public house but situated right at Longleat - very picturesque.
