Villa Oceano Reviews
" We stayed at Villas' Oceano in... "
Submitted By: Mrs A Hassell
We stayed at Villas' Oceano in November 05, on the recommendation of my in-laws. We weren't disappointed. The accomodation was clean and nicely laid out. There is a choice of 3 villas in the small complex. Atlantico, Pacifico and Indico. We stayed in Atlantico, all the villas look the same size and all have their own decent sized pool. They also have covers, which might not sound important, but if you haven't been to Lanza, it can get windy, especially during the night, so the cover helps keeps any random bit of palm tree out of the pool!
They are all two bedroom villas, both bedrooms had full en-suite bathrooms, large wardrobe space and also a safe. The kitchen was well equipped (not that we ever really used it) and had all the amenities you could wish for. The outdoor space for the washing machine was away from the pool area in a nice enclosed courtyard, clothes dried easily and you didn't have to see them! The villas are kept nice and clean with regular maid service and towel change.
In terms of location, it was fine for us, not too close to the Centro Commercial of Matagorda, so there was no noise from the bars etc. For anyone with walking difficulties, it was a little further out, but there is a taxi rank a short distance away. Contrary to what I have read on other sites, we have never had any problems getting taxi's and they have always been reasonably priced. The beach is a 5 minute walk away.
Matagorda itself is fairly quiet with a decent number of bars and a couple of small supermarket style shops and a few souveneir style shops. Ours is a small, young family so it suits us down to the ground. For anyone who is into a more lively nitelife, they would be better going to Puerto Del Carmen. The restaurants in Matagorda vary, the two we frequented most were 'La Brisa' & 'Paradise Beach', have heard some good things about the Irish bars, but can't really comment, other than the odd drink. There are 2-3 chinese style restaurants, our fave being the Hong Kong Island.
We also ate quite regularly a little further round towards PDC in Los Pocillos. Our faves there were 'Pizza Italica', 'Cabballito'... and for snacks and cocktails 'Jungla Bar'.
We are staying in these villas again in Summer 08, after staying elsewhere for the last couple of years (we needed somewhere bigger) an we are really looking forward to staying there again!

the villa atlantico (one of the 3 villa oceano group) was lovely, very clean and very spacious. two bedrooms and two bathrooms, large pool and very private with a high surrounding wall. it was wonderfull not having to fight for a sun lounger each day and the privacy of having your own private pool was wonderful. towels and cleaning took place twice a week with bedding changed weekly (i would have preferred twice weekly). the pool was cleaned twice weekly which kept it spotless and being November it was heated, which was an additional bonus.
Matagorda is a quiet resort, not for those seeking an active nightlife. the beach was a 5-10 minute walk away as was the commercial centre which had a number of bars and restaurants and a few gift shops and a spar for food shopping.
the resort of Matagorda was exceptionally clean and well kept and prices for eating out were similar to UK. for quick snack lunches or good sunday lunch, go to the 'hole in the wall' where you will receive a warm welcome from a british run bar/restaurant. evening entertainment in matagorda was a meal out and a drink, no clubs. a show would have been a nice change but we didnt find any.
we visited puerto del carmen, which was not for me, far too commercialised and 'touristy'. do not leave Lanzarote without visiting the fire mountains-volcano. we went with 'last minute travel', which can be booked whilst there or before hand. Nick, our 'short south tour' rep was great and made the whole trip entertaining. we really enjoyed the camel ride-although this is optional.
we would love to return to matagorda next year and would love another villa holiday and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to 'get away from the hustle and bustle'.
