Formerly a monastery, the Piccolo Hotel Il Palio, was converted around the fifteenth century. It is situated in the delighful historical centre of Siena, very near to Piazza del Campo and from the famous Duomo.
We recently travelled to Siena for 3 days. Taking a train from Rome to Siena was beautiful looking at the Italian countryside.
We arrived in Siena not knowing what to expect and having no accommodation booked. We immediately went to the city square where all the activity takes place and managed to find a cheapish hotel for our stay.
The hotel itself is nothing special and offers not much more other than a tidy bedroom and nice size shower. However as I mentioned it was clean and the staff at the hotel were very helpful.
We didn’t stay long in our rooms anyway as we started to explore this historic city. Taking in the fantastic 17th-18th century churches and relaxing in the square in the afternoon having a beer.
You can quite easily get lost in the cobbled streets of Siena and there is loads to see. If you are looking for a cheap backpacker’s hotel I would definitely recommend the Piccolo Hotel.
