" Very Clean and Friendly "

Well let’s start from the top the entrance to the hotel was very nice and professional worthy of any 4 star establishments I would expect.
The checking in process was also fine with no issues and all the staff at all times came across as very friendly and helpful to any of my questions.
The Room was as advertised on the photos, and very clean there was no doubt about that cleanliness was a priority with the hotel at sol lnazarote, the same with the swimming pools area was completely fine and clean.
As for the other comments on here that complain of the sun lounges being rather old and slump right down to the floor?, maybe if your of a certain posture for most people there is no problem and there was plenty of space even when I went down after 13:00PM on all occasions.
Foods and service cannot really make any comment on this, as I didn’t use their restaurant.
The local amenities are good for the most part you have a Spar less than 3 minutes walk away, with a good pizza restaurant next door to it.
Matagorda Is absolutely excellent for walking and cycling or skating you can walk for hours on both sides of this hotel.
One side taking you right past the airport where you do get the huge aircraft flying over you! Alongside the naturist beach (interesting) which leads to Playa Honde where there is an array of villas for rent and sale with some small cafes.
One for sale is going for a nice sum of 300,000 Euro.
To the other side you reach Puerto Del Carmen where you pass lanzarote village and meet the famous San Antonio hotel and all of its local effects there.
This is where there is some nightlife if this is what you are looking for and can be reached for 5 euros in a cab.
All in all this Is a lovely place to escape to with your partner if you are looking for a quiet break in the sun, with no distractions.
For kids though I feel they could get bored in the area of Matagorda it’s self and lanzarote as a whole I don’t feel it is for kids but personal preference.
In addition to help anybody reading this who may be gay the hotel and the area is fine there is nothing to worry about they’re for this, so much so I am returning for the second time in 2009.
Enjoy your trip to Sol any questions on this island or more unbiased true reviews on Sol Lanzarote do email me at kevmusic0023@yahoo.com

" Could be better "

We booked this hotel as it was apartments and wanted space with our 2.5 year old daughter.
The rooms: The rooms are big and clean, the kitchen area is small and you need to take/buy tea towels, washing up liquid, washing up brush etc. You have to hire a kettle and toaster. We went in December and the rooms are sooo cold at night so take warm pjs. We got dressing gowns and slippers in our room (we complained about staff attitudes to us) so I dont know if you would normally have to pay for these. We had a balcony that had no sun so our clothes didnt dry and the laundry service is very expensive so try and get a sunny balcony if possible.
The receptionists: Some are friendly others are really rude and seem put out when you want help with something or to ask a question. Raul the manager was very helpful when we had a problem. We asked to change rooms as I am pregnant with twins and had to walk up lots of ramps to get to the room and wanted to know if we could switch to a room in the main building (which seem warmer at night so would recommend main building room!) and the receptionists basically told me that I should go a different way which was still a massive walk, instead of helping me out and saying that it wasn't a problem and giving me the room straight away.
The swimming pools and swimming pool area: The gardens are really nice, bit packed in with the beds and the pools are so cold. Even the baby pool.
The location: The hotel is right opposite the beach which is nice and really near the local commecial centre that has nice restaurants. Bar Kike and Sirroco are really nice.
The bar/entertainment lounge: Really nice but small for the size of the hotel so never enough seats for everyone and you have to get there really early to get a seat. The kids entertainment doesnt start until 9pm which is quite late and the main shows start at 10pm. The entertainment team are lovely.
Kids: Not great for under 5s, all kids entertainment for over 5s and no park play area for younger kids.
The food: We were self catering but paid a couple of times to eat in the restaurant which was really expensive. 33 euros for two adults for dinner and 12.70 euros for two for breakfast. Expensive at the moment due to the euro exchange rate.
The solution!: We found a hotel just down the road called Jameos Playa (next to Mac Donalds) where we spent the day on the lovely sun beds and there is a sand pit park area. We also went there at 8pm for the mini disco every night with a big dance floor and great entertainment. If we new about that hotel we probably would have stayed there but the rooms arent as good as the sol lanzarote so it is a perfect balance!
Matagorda is quite quiet but really nice for a chilled holiday. Would be great for adults with over 5s children.

" Great Holiday !! "

I went to Sol Lanzarote last Easter for one week with my husband, and two daughters aged 11 and 7 (then). We had a fabulous time, so much so that we have booked again for this Easter for another week. We are not usually a "stick with what you know" family, but honestly it was so good that this phrase fits the bill. The little cafes, restaurants and bars (few) all served good food and all within a stroll of the complex. The apartments were cleaned to a high standard daily and the bathroom, what can I say, was superb.
We have been to the Canary Islands for 6 or 7 years on the trot now and this was the best experience we have had to date. The sea view from our apartment was amazing both day and night.
I would highly recommend this aparthotel complex. (Though not for the nightclub fanatics.....)

Advice: Matagorda - small but perfectly formed !

Activities: Lovely little restaurants on seafront with delicious icecreams too

" Christmas 2008 "

We had items stolen from our room and the man in Reception was defensive and treated us in a less than respectful manner when we presented the issue. In fact, we was aruguing with me in defense of the cleaner. Food wasn't too good on the buffet (omelets, chicken, and turkey were under cooked). Roaches running across the floor in the dining room and cats at the tables begging for food. Only four pay for use internet terminals were there and usually at least one was not operational. No WiFi available. We would go back to Lanzarote (it is a beautiful destination and the people are generally friendly!), but would not stay at that hotel again.

Advice: Very peaceful area away from the heavily populated areads (Playa Del Carmen and Costa Teguise).

Activities: We drove throught almost every town on the island. Stunning views!

" TERRIBLE FOOD "

STOPED HERE FOR A WINTER BREAK, WE ALWAYS STAY IN 4 STAR OR BETTER HOTELS AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD SATISFACTION, BUT THIS IS NOT A REAL HOTEL IT IS AN APART-HOTEL, THE RECEPTION AREA IS NICLEY LAID OUT GIVING A GOOD FIRST IMMPRESSION, BUT YOU HAVE TO GO HALFWAY AROUND THE GROUNDS TO GAIN ACCESS TO MOST OF THE ROOMS, VERY FEW ROOMS HAVE ACCESS FROM THE MAIN RECEPTION AREA, MOST OF THE ROOMS YOU HAVE STEEP PATHWAYS TO NEGOTIATE SO WOULD PROVE DIFICULT FOR THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED,(THESE PATHWAYS WERE ORIGIONALY STEPS BUT HAVE BEEN CONCRETED OVER TO GIVE DISABLED ACCESS AND ARE TO STEEP)
THE ROOMS ARE LARGE AND REASONABLY WELL FURNISHED WITH A FRIDGE AND HAIR DRYER, BUT REQUIRE SOME MAINTENANCE WORK, PATIO DOORS NOT ABLE TO LOCK PROPERLY, BATHROOM DOOR HANDLE LOOSE,I WOULD SAY THIS WAS A 3 STAR HOTEL NOT 4 BUT THE WORST IS YET TO COME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DONT EAT IN THIS HOTEL THE FOOD IS UTTER GARBAGE !!!!!!!!
THIS HOTEL MUST HAVE THE LOWEST BUDGET I HAVE EVER KNOWN, IF YOU EAT HERE YOU WILL HAVE THE OPERTUNITY TO HAVE TEPID WATERY SOUP, PAELA WITHOUT ANY SEAFOOD OR MEAT, GOAT STEW, CHICKEN STEW MADE FROM LEFTOVERS, (AS IT WAS MOSTLY BONES), MOST OF THE FOOD WAS BARELY WARM, THERE IS A GRILL WHERE YOU CAN GET FRESHLY COOKED FOOD (BURGERS SAUSAGES KEBABS ECT) BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE CHEF AND YOU HAVE TO QUE, NOT IDEAL WHEN THE HOTEL IS BUSY
MY TIP IS SLEEP HERE BUT EAT OUT OR GO SELF CATERING.

" We have just returned from a 2 week... "

We have just returned from a 2 week half board stay and the fantastic Sol Lanzarote Hotel! The staff were fun and friendly and we were checked in and up in our room within 20 minutes. The hotel is quite big so with a map we found our room and was pleasently surprised when we got there. We opened the door to a Flinstones painted sitting area with kitchenette which had a sofa bed so became a second bedroom (our son loved this as his bedroom for 2 weeks!) We walked through the sliding parttion doors to our main bedroom which had cool green decor and a flat screen LCD tv and onto the balcony which had a pool and beach view! The rooms were huge and so was the bathroom with shower over bath. The maids cleaned the rooms and made the beds every day and left fresh towels. The hotel itself was cool, clean and had was'nt over the top with the Flinstones theme, there was a shop and supermarket on site and restaurants and take away service. The bar area and entertainment were great although the drinks a little expensive. The food in the restaurant was fantastic with a good choice and friendly staff although it is best to get in fairly early because it gets quite busy. There are 3 big pools and a baby pool and the beach over a promenade in front of the hotel. Matagorda itself is quite quiet but you have the best of both worlds as there are shops and bars in the square and Puerto del Carmen is a short cab drive away (3 to 5 euros). The volcano experience is worth going on to see the fantastic landscape, and have a ride on the camels! Close to the airport, you can see the planes coming into land but its quite good to watch! We highly recommend the Sol Lanzarote as a year round holiday location! If the Spanish and Italians go there, it must be good! We will be going back!!!

We were amazed how good it was & the entertainment staff were great, very friendly & welcoming. Nice balance for children & adults.so close to the airport and situated on a non transport road right on the beach so always felt safe to walk along with little one.

" My fiance and I have just returned... "

My fiance and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Sol Lanzarote in Matagorda. We had a lovely time and cannot recommend it enough.
It is a very short transfer from the airport. Check in was very quick in a lovely reception area that was cool and welcoming. We went self caterig and had a room above the reception area so we did suffer from a bit of noise from coaches arriving and departing and the odd loud person, but it is nothing to worry about as that is life and coaches dont have mute buttons.
The rooms were very clean and housekeeping came every day and made fresh clean beds and left fresh crisp white towels. The only thing I would moan about is the air con did not seem as good as some hotels I have stayed in before, but to be fair we never took this up with management and just managed as we were too busy having fun to get stressed about it. It only proved a bit uncomfortable on two very very HOT nights.
The food - cannot comment really as we only ate breakfast in the buffet twice, the morning after we arrived and one morning we had an earlyish excursion and needed to fill our bellies. It was ok, nowt to shout about really as it was just buffet food. My other half loved the cold meats on offer though. It did cost us about 6 and half euros each which after finding we could get fresh cooked english brekkie in the square or along the beaches anywhere for half that seemed a bit steep.
The hotel itself is in the sleepy area of Matagorda which as has been said is only a taxi ride away from Puerto Del Carmen itself for about 5 euro's if that. We went out for a couple of nights there to party, the rest of the time we just chilled ad enjoyed the peace of the relatively quiet beaches and sipping cocktails in each others company.
If you like aeroplanes too this is the place to stay. It has a very exciting beach about 15 mins walk north where you can swim and scare yourself to death with Airbuses and Boeings almost landing on you as you swim!!!! Kids will love it! To be honest you have the best of both worlds at this place (peace and quiet on your doorstep or just a short taxi ride away - heady party resort fun) and we for one will defo be staying there again if we decide to return to Lanzarote in the future.
Make sure you do the Catlanza excursion. IT IS A MUST! Oh and be warned Arrecife airport charge 11 euros for each kilo you are over on baggage weight. Make sure you go out there well below your limit and then some for good measure, they will not let a kilo go. You have been warned!

" Just got back from a fantastic... "

Just got back from a fantastic holiday, resort close to airport 5 minute drive, rooms are really nice we had two rooms one with 3 adults in and one with 3 adults and my 5month old baby in they were appartment's with sea and pools which i would reccommend, they accomodated for us well i was worried as this was the 1st holiday we had taken her on, checking in was quite slow but nothing to moan about but then werent many people checking in, the pools were always clean as was everything else stones throw away from the beach, very child friendly, went self catering plenty of places to eat cost about the same as would back home, evening entertainment at resort was different every night and always busy considering september, when checking out 100 guests were checking in got a bit hectic as werent enough staff they were still checking them in when we got back from something to eat but apart from that i would definatley go back there really enjoyed it as did rest of my family.

" just returned from our 5th visit to... "

just returned from our 5th visit to the sol lanzarote what a fantastic holiday we have had again. The location is fantastic and the hotel was even better than last year with maid service every day.Never been anywhere where you get this service.Nice mix of Spanish families and no sign of people continually being abusive towards staff. It was my sons 18th birthday while out there and we came in one evening into the apartment and there was a complimentary bottle of champgne from the management,we hadnt requested this fanatastic.Have already booked for next year and cant wait. Please dont listen to these negative reviews of some people the hotel and resort are fantastic and i for one will carry on going year after year.We are even taking more family members with us next year.

" We have just come back from sol... "

We have just come back from sol lanzarote as a family of 4.Before we went I read the reviews on this site, and was not looking forward to our stay,as most of the review were so negative. How wrong was I??? This was the best family holiday we have had in our 15 yrs of traveling Europe. The staff were great, the house keeping was to the highest standards, and our 2 sons age 4 and 5 were catered for so well. The kids club for the over 5 was fantastic. The adult water games each day were Brillant, the night time entertainment was fantastic. We checked in,in no more than 10 mins.We spoke to many a family there who were on their 3th and 4th visits, one family were actually on their 6th.We would highly recmomend Sol Lanzarote, and will be returning again.Great holiday, and great staff. Well done to all who provided us with a super holiday.Oh,we had housekeeping every single day, clean towels every day,not many a resort provide that service on a daily basics.

" arrived on the 19th June and checked... "

arrived on the 19th June and checked in within 10 mins, no problem. rooms spacious and clean. seaview lovely. The hotel is in a great position just across the path to the beach. Pool areas were great and the kids club was run very efficiently. We all had a great holiday and will definately return. We were self catering, only sampled the food at breakfast which was fine so cannot comment on the evening meal.

This will be our 4th stay at the sol Lanzarote and we have enjoyed every visit we have made. The location is fantastic. As for the staff being rude and slow some of the abuse that they have to put up from so called customers is apalling. We had a problem with a room last year but the staff were great and put us in one of the best rooms in the hotel, with a fantastic view.We love the resort and the location where it is based.

" Me and my partner stayed at the sol... "

Me and my partner stayed at the sol lanzarote.ive read the comments on the page about people having to wait for some time at check-in.for us it wasnt too bad, about 10 minutes and we were the only ones there.but i did witness a few holidaymakers losing the plot because of the level of customer service the reception area provided.it seemed the reception staff could not cope under pressure from parties arriving of 10 people plus.which did look embaressing.eating out rightfully so isnt as cheap as people make it out to be and having a pint isnt either.also we paid 30 euros each for the short south tour excursion, which was worth it.the pool area of the hotel isnt big enough to cope with the amount of guests staying.its a joke.getting a sunbed? no chance.towels are draped over them at 8am so you cant nab one.entertainment looked pathetic, ive seen better.for the kids though it looked fun,but as an adult you have no hope.i wouldnt go back because of its location, would have saved money staying in puerto del carmen, because of taxi fares 5 euros or so to and from sol lanzarote as matagorda isnt worth shouting about.rooms were ok and not 4 star as they claim to be.didnt meet holiday rep for welcome meeting so cant comment on her,but i didnt see her once throughout our 1 weeks stay as she left a notice saying she was having a few days break and would be back on the thursday.the cleaning staff were friendly and happy, maybe the reception staff need to take note on that one.i wont be back to that hotel but i will be back to lanzarote.
