" Just got back from a week’s stay at... "
Submitted By: Mrs M HiltonThink before you book this place. You should be told that firstly the book in time isn’t until 5pm, which was a real pain as we got there at 11am and of course as you’re not allowed to take any suntan creams in your hand luggage now, this was made even worse as we couldn’t just go and sit outside in the sun.
There is nowhere near enough staff in the whole complex and the fella that was behind the bar each night was run off his feet, which meant having to wait to be served each time took over 20 mins in the end we were getting 2 drinks each to save time.
If you wanted a cup of tea in your room you had to hire a kettle, which I have never had to do in s/c before. The maid was lovely but didn’t speak a word of English but was always smiling!!
The children’s entertainment didn’t start till well past 9pm each night which was a bit late and hard to find a seat in the bar after 7pm, this made it a long night for the kids there.
Don’t know if I would go back again, but I suppose it’s what you make it. Give this holiday 7 out of 10.
PS and this is a really big one!! Cats, cats and more cats. Maybe they should get as many staff as cats and then it might go up to 8 out of 10.
" Very nice hotel, but it’s not 4star... "
Submitted By: Mr D JohnsonFood is a no no eat out, Irish bars beside hotel do a 3 course meal for €9.
Bar service is shocking, waiting time is about 30-40 minutes for a drink, and they only sell Spanish lager.
It’s at least 1 hour and 30 min walk to P.Del.C but a taxi booked at reception is only €3.85
Beech beside hotel is well kept they clean it nightly, maybe a bit expensive €8 for 2 sunbeds with no sun.
Weather wasn’t great but enjoyed the stay, there are many things to do in the area like bike riding along the sea front no cars allowed - heaven and go carts are only 5 mins away in a taxi.
All in all an ok holiday, but will not be rushing back.
" Fantastic apartment, great place,... "
Submitted By: o mc gOnly fault was the cats which were allowed to sit on the tables in the outdoor restaurant.
Spent most of my time running after my 2 yr old who was running after the cats that were a bit shy!
Area fantastic step onto the beach, only downfall was no indoor pool, but hey you can't have it all!
There are special offers available in the hotel for half board, if I remember correct there was little or no charge for the kids.
Go and enjoy, we did.
" Stayed here for four days in March.... "
Submitted By: Mrs G WebbWhen we checked in once the receptionist found we were only staying for four days our room was changed.
We had asked for a sea view, sunny balcony and a double bed we got a view of the next accommodation block, not one iota of sun anywhere near our room, no double bed and to cap it all a very noisy children's playground right outside our room - not very romantic!
The food was appalling, for a four star hotel we had expected something special - most of it was inedible.
On our actual anniversary we tried to order champagne with our dinner only to be told curtly that that was not possible - no champagne in a four star hotel! The service in the restaurant was very slow and we had to queue every evening to wait for a table for dinner.
Our travel agent had told us that since it was our anniversary we would be given complimentary sparkling wine - again nothing.
The room was adequate but in terms of four start luxury did not live up to expectations, the only thing being that it was larger than the average hotel room but most of this space was empty. Our balcony furniture consisted of two dirty white plastic chairs, no table.
The pools were attractive if you could get a sunlounger; they seemed to be booked by people leaving their towels on them from early morning even though most of them did not appear until the afternoon.
The sunloungers were also very tightly packed together, ok I suppose if you don't mind some strangers toes on your head!
The bar service was very poor, bar closed very early and you certainly didn't feel you could ask for another drink. We didn't stay in the hotel very much; the entertainment was very holiday camp, ok if you like that sort of thing.
The resort is ok, very small, a purpose built shopping centre nearby with bars and restaurants. Puerto Del Carmen is a very long walk along the promenade and to be honest not really worth it.
The weather also was very disappointing, we deliberately chose the canaries believing in March it would be warm - it wasn't. It was very windy and cloudy, when the sun did come out from behind the clouds it was warm but that wasn't very often.
I certainly would not recommend this hotel, it charges four star rates for two star qualities, and in fact we have stayed at better two star hotels.
Definitely would not stay at another Sol hotel if this is the standard they offer.

Submitted By: ann sunleyThe Hotel is quite away from everything, so if you want to go where there is a bit of life you have either to get the bus or a taxi.
The hotel is 4* which is very clean and the maid service was excellent, but the food is only 3* quality very repetitive. The soups were disgusting like runny water with no taste. You got the same desserts every night a lot of choice but no variation.
The bar service was disgusting, my husband waited 40 mins one night to get served but if you happened to be Spanish you were served straight away. There were numerous complaints and I must say it improved the second week.
The pool area is excellent and for those who go with children the kids club looked good.
The weather wasn't very good very windy and cold, when we arrived home it was warmer here than it was over there.

Submitted By: Mrs C FloodOn checking in we found the staff at reception to be very unpleasant. We had previously requested a ground floor apartment - but on arrival received an apartment on the top floor. The staff did nothing to accommodate us in any way. They just told us that there were no ground floor rooms available. I checked everyday with reception but to no avail. They just kept fobbing me off.
The apartment was clean; however the maid did not change our towels everyday. We placed all our used towels in the bath for replacement - as you do - but some days the maid just took the towels out of the bath, folded them & put them back on the rack.
The pool area was nice and pleasant.
The beach was just a step away from the pool. There were plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from within walking distance. All of which served good food and were value for money.
Overall we enjoyed Lanzarote a lot. We are going back to Lanzarote in September this year - but won't be checking into "Sol Lanzarote".

Submitted By: o mc gWe worked it out and it was more practical to take the offer that they had going. Only complaint would be please get rid of the cats. They were sleeping on the tables and chairs in the outside restaurant, guess where we didn't eat!
Matagorda is also wonderful with some really good restaurants overlooking the beach. Great area for families no noise and felt rather chilled out for a change having a 4yr old and a 3 yr old! Go for it ! Totally caters for families especially with young kids and is safe area all around. Thumbs up.
" A fantastic holiday.
Initially we had major doubts about the proximity of the airport as the first day we were there, was clearly the main arrivals day.
However the quality of the resort and accommodation was soon evident.
The beach is immediately opposite the hotel and there is a long pedestrianised area along the front of the beach area.
The main area of Matagorda is packed with quality but reasonably priced restaurants.
The hotel itself was of an excellent standard and it may have been just the time of year but for the first holiday I've had abroad, it was noticeable how few insects there were.
" A great family resort.
The hotel was of a really good standard and the pedestrian’s area between the pools and the beach is a major bonus for young families.
The hotel is very clean and the rooms are cleaned on a daily basis.
I've become accustomed to being pestered by insects when abroad but this was not the case in Lanzarote.
The resort is quite close to the airport so there is a lot of airplane noise but this isn't as much of an issue as you think it would be.
Overall a great holiday.
" Stayed at Sol Lanzarote with a party... "
Submitted By: Mrs M SmithWe only had 1 week there - but will be returning in 2007. We go away as a party once a year, and Sol Lanzarote/Matagorda is one of the best locations we have found.
My daughter will also be returning with her family as children are so well catered for.

Submitted By: Mr N TwelvesChatting to other guests from various nationalities, it became clear that ours was not an isolated incident.
The food was acceptable, but compared to other four star hotels it was somewhat boring and repetitive.
The saving grace of this hotel were the pools; clean, deep and attractive.
We loved the area and we will go back, but not to a Sol hotel. Look elsewhere is my advice if you want half board.
Another suggestion is that you use a travel company that cares.

Submitted By: Ms M MoynihanThe following morning we asked at reception to be moved to another room but they would not move us, they just pawned us off saying that they were full up, but we seen people checking out during the day. That night we didn’t see any cockroaches (yipee) but still no sun getting through that palm tree.
It took us from the Thursday to the Sunday to move apartments. I dreaded going back into the hotel to sleep after a wonderful night(s) out in puerto del carmen. On the Sunday they eventually moved us to a top floor apartment over looking the pool and wonderful sea view. If we were in this or similar apartment when we checked in first we would of had a better holiday.
We also had to hire a kettle and toaster for our self catering apartment which cost us an extra €15 for the week. It’s such a rip off.
We done the catamaran and I know it costs €65 per person but it’s a great day out. Forget the Sunday Market it’s actually the same old stuff like all other countries.
I was so delighted to be checking out of the hotel a week later only to find that the plane back to Dublin was delayed for four hours (or so i thought) it was then delayed till the next day and we eventually got home 24 hours from our original scheduled flight.
I would not recommend this hotel to anybody and it will be a very long time before I go back to Lanzarote, hopefully I will change my mind.
" We have just got back from staying 2... "
Submitted By: Miss M DeanThe hotel is very kids orientated, however being a young couple me and my boyfriend joined in with most things and ended up having more fun than the kids! The entertainment every night is 10/10 we even participated in one for the shows which was very embarrassing, but we were glad we done it though. They have adults activities going on to such as volleyball and water polo which was a lot of fun being the only girl playing. We stayed by the pool most days because there is so much going on, the beach is lovely which is across the road, but we never wanted to miss the entertainment so we didn’t stayed on it much.
We were Self Catering which was great as they are lots of restaurants along the sea front which are very nice and cheap. We went back to the same Restaurant 7 times it was that good. It was called "Steak House" and I never had one steak because there was so much choice on the menu. We became the regular couple of the restaurant and they always saved our favourite table and already got the drinks ready for us as they saw us arriving. (Bless 'em) A 3 course meal for 2 with a handful of drinks to go with them cost us no more than 30 Euros a night!
The only thing I will say is not to use First Choice, the Rep was never there, and when she was she flew through info so quickly we had no idea what she was telling us. All the excursions were fab and well organised, especially the Grand Island Tour which I recommend along with the Catamaran. There is so much to do not enough time to do it in.
We are not people who visit the same place twice, however we will definitely be coming back again in the future.
Overall 10/10 for the Sol Lanzarote.
" We had been going to Lanzarote for... "
Submitted By: Mrs T StrangeThe hotel is big and even with a map in hand we lost are way to our apartment. But a friendly member of staff took the trolley off me with 3 suitcase on board right to our apartment door.
The apartment was nicely lead out and the decor was lovely. The bathroom was big with a very powerful shower with hot water all day long. Our view was slightly disappointing as we had paid extra for a sea view, but only managed a glimpse in between all the mature trees in the garden. Pool area was real nice and spacious.
the only fault I found was the pool which was heated was very deep and even though my six year old can swim I had to place armband on her. We were booked in Bed & Breakfast and this was really good plenty of selection. I now prefer staying in Matagorda really nice walks right on your door steps, however nightlight is a bit quiet.
Still travel into PDC as we have are favourite restaurants and these are hard to beat! Really impressed, so much so we have booked another wee week in August.

We checked into our room at 2pm. The receptionist sent us around the blocks to get to our room when 1 lift would have done. There are quite a few steep slopes when you are pulling 3 cases and 1 buggy.
The room we stayed in was clean and spacious and had a view over the boules sand pit looking towards the beach. The camp bed was incredibly uncomfortable so our child (2) slept in the main bed with us (main bed consisted of 2 queen size beds pushed together). The maid cleaned the room every day.
On our first morning I was up early to get some supplies from the nearby spar shop and had noticed that nearly all of the beds had been blocked/reserved already (8am).
We later had our meeting with the rep and she basically told us you won't beat them so join them.
This meant taking it in turns to set the alarm every morning to get 2 beds together.
Most of the beds then had towels on for the best part of the day before anybody would turn up to use them! The beds were fairly close together.
The pools were cleaned every morning along with the terrace but when the wind got up quite a bit of rubbish (news papers, sweet rappers etc) which wasn't held down would get blown around. Disappointingly some families thought it was ok to clean the sand off their legs and feet in the children’s pool.
We can't really comment on the food in the hotel, as we would make sandwiches for lunch and ate out every night but we did hear other guests who were staying half say that the food was ok.
the hotel bar in the evening was very slow and quite expensive so after returning from going out for a meal we would get some drinks from the apartment like many other people were doing and watch the show/entertainment. The evening show/entertainment was not exactly thrilling.
There are a few bars in the local commercial centre (the auld triangle/barties).these were ok for food and a beer. There was a nice Italian on the corner of the Jaemos hotel and a very good Irish restaurant by the anchor bar also on the Jaemos hotel.
Puerto Del Carmen is about a 45 minute walk away / 4 Euros in a cab. We went into puerto del Carmen a couple of times but it not really that good for families with smaller children. You also get a lot of hassle from the restaurants and bars to come in.
Back to the hotel and there wasn't a play area for the children (no slides /swings etc).
I don't think we would return to the sol Lanzarote as I think there are too many guests for the space available. I dread to think what it would be like at peak season.
