I don't think I will be hurrying back to Lanzarote anytime soon and definitely WILL NOT be going to Sol Lanzarote

Submitted By: Mr C WyattThe room unfortunately was not quite up to the above, although the Hotel/rooms had been refurbished in 2004 they were in need of decorating, the maid service was efficient but the remains of mosquitoes spattered against the walls and furnishings by previous occupants was a sign of things to come. We were on the ground floor and I would strongly suggest asking for an upper floor room as we heard all of the above plumbing cascading down the pipes which seemed to be just behind our walls, this included the toilets and associated habits of the above residents. The room regularly smelt of faint sewage too to which the maid sprayed air freshener every day.
There is no kettle or toaster, they can be hired from reception.
I would recommend taking mosquito spray for the room or a mosquito net, both can be bought locally. Food shopping, there is a Spar and other local mini super markets which I would also recommend as eating out is not that cheap, no cheaper than the UK that's for sure but one restaurant was outstanding: Pulcinella, Italian Pizzeria which was approximately 1 km walk south along the front from the Hotel, great service, friendly and the choice of authentic Italian food was comprehensive and tasted wonderful. Cost a few quid but worth the treat.
Definitely hire a car for a couple of days, gets you out and about, driving although on the right is a cinch. There is very little traffic and the roads are well maintained, speeds are low and no one is any great rush as most of the traffic seemed to be holiday makers. Buy a reasonable road map (Couple of Euro's) as road signs are a little vague but don't worry about getting lost, you cant. Visit all of the tourist hot spots and dead end's as the Island is small and can be driven around in a day easily, the Monumento al Campesino was photogenic in regard to the court yards and trees, Yaiza was a handsome village with an open church but for fresh seafood El Golfo was the place to eat, plenty of restaurants next to the sea and a good location to eat lunch after visiting Timanfaya the volcano.
If you are looking to sit by the pool for a week or two and get a tan this could be the holiday but for anyone with itchy feet I would not suggest the resort or the Island which is where we went wrong, a week was too long, a weekend would be ideal.
" Very nice hotel, but its not 4star... "
Submitted By: Mr D JohnsonPool area is nice but sunbeds are booked very early by towels been placed over them.
Food is a no no eat out, Irish bars beside hotel do a 3 course meal for €9.
Bar service is SHOCKING waiting time is about 30-40 minutes for a drink, and they only sell spainish lager.
Its at least 1 hour and 30 min walk to P.Del.C but a taxi booked at recp is only €3.85
Beech beside hotel is well kept they clean it nightly, maybe a bit expensive €8 for 2 sunbeds with no sun.
Weather was'nt great but enjoyed the stay, there are many things to do in the area like bike riding along the sea front No cars aloud (heaven) and go carts are only 5 mins away in a taxi
All in all an ok holiday but will not be rushing back

Submitted By: Mrs J GodfreyA pleasant walk into Puerto del Carmen or a really cheap taxi less than 4 Euro normally. Definitely worth going again and again, lots of kids club activities at this hotel, so possibly not one for those without children as it can get quite noisy!
" Hi we have just came back from... "
Submitted By: Mrs D BennettThere were 31 of us went.
We wanted to celebrate the 2008 new year in a hot country so we decided on this complex as there where a mixture of ages ranging from 10 months to age 75.
On arrival it took a while to get our hotel rooms as they was not ready, as this was three in the afternoon we thought we would get in straight away.
When we finally got our rooms they where basic but clean yes you have to higher your kettle and toaster but some of us did and some just used the pans.
Two days in to the holiday my nephew and his friend got their room broke into and their safe took out of the room and all their clothes where scattered all over the room.
The receptionist called the police
This was a clean hotel but think twice on going there.

Submitted By: Miss W MooreThe short journey from the airport was a bonus. First impressions of the reception area looks promising. The check in was pain free and the staff were friendly. The room was very clean and spacious.
The hotel industry have found ways of earning extra money by renting basic facilities you would expect in a self catering apartment i.e. toaster, kettle. You have to rent these items by the week. We used the teapot (Steel) to boil the bottled water.
Local supermarket is on the complex. Limited choice. You are better off going to the one behind the hotel. Walk out to the beach turn left and you will see the SPAR shop within 2 minutes.
The pool is clean and for November quite warm. Beach was 10 metres from the rear entrance to the hotel. Clean with white sand. Not the usual rocky beach.
Having researched the reviews prior to departure some of the negative aspects of the hotel became apparent.
The bar staff are either slow, thick or are in need of intensive training on how to work behind a bar. They do not know how to smile and when you present them with a Euro note they tend to snatch it out of your hand! The entertainment is very seventies.
Would we go back, probably not. We did get a cheap deal from the internet so it was not so bad. If considering paying for all exclusive think again the hotel comments book was as thick as your arm from all inclusive guests complaining bitterly about the restaurant. We could not comment because we never ate there.
We rated the hotel 7 out of 10.
Happy holidays.

Submitted By: Mrs M NeilsonHow wrong I was. I can honestly say this was by far the worst holiday we've ever had.
Check in was a nightmare the girl could not speak English and a straight forward check-in took almost 30 minutes. All information leaflets given to us were in German.
Room was adequate and cleaned daily except for last 2 days when usual cleaner was off and the room was not serviced (no clean towels). Rooms could do with updating as they had seen better days, bit shabby for a 4 star hotel. We were all inclusive and this was not a cheap holiday.
We had to queue for up to 15 minutes to get a fried egg at breakfast, so ventured out of the hotel for breakfast most mornings. Lunch was a very limited choice of food and dinner wasn't much better and I might add that we are not fussy eaters. After dinner you had to queue at the one and only bar for up to 20 minutes if you wanted a coffee.
The alcoholic drinks were disgusting even with mixers added they smelled strongly of perfume.
Entertainment was a joke. One night the entertainment was a "fashion show" - 2 girls showing off their clothes and then selling them to guests!
We had to go out to the nearby pubs to get a decent drink and were charged 10Euros for a whisky and a pint of beer. In conclusion for those of you who might be considering booking this hotel BEWARE, you have been warned, take heed of all the negative reviews, they are accurate believe me.
If you want to lie at the pool or on the beach and soak up the sun all day and then go straight to bed with an empty stomach, this is the holiday for you, as the Sol Lanzarote and Lanzarote offer nothing else except guaranteed sunshine.
" Did not consider the Sol a four star... "
Submitted By: Mrs J DumelowRoom was nice but basic (no kettle or toaster in the room). Rooms were kept clean - new towels every day, general appearance of the hotel was shabby. Sun beds around the pool were very old and needed renewing, some were new but these were reserved very quickly. Bar staff very slow sometimes ignorant.
We didn’t eat at the hotel but found nice restaurants outside the complex. Visit the Kinsale restaurant for excellent food and friendly staff, if you go once you will eat there again. Enjoyed Lanzarote - a must to see are Timanfaya (fire mountains) view from the Mirador del Rio over to La Graciosa. Jameos del Agua (white crabs) and Playa Blanca beach was beautiful excellent for snorkeling.

Submitted By: Mrs Y THOMSONWe had 2 adults and 2 children so had to take some indoor furniture out with us for eating. We got there in around 10 minutes from the airport in a taxi which we just grabbed outside the airport so great location for a family not wanting a long transfer. Superb location on the beach with no cars along the front. Flinstones club on from 11.00am until 12.00am and 3.00-4.00pm every day but what they don't explain is that a lot of the activities are charged for and this is pricey!! You could buy a band for 35 euros a week though!! We did not feel it was worth that.
Bar service was slow but we went out of the complex in the evening so did not bother us too much. Matagorda has a real selection of restaurants to eat in which were good but we really enjoyed either getting a bus (1euro each) or a taxi, approx 4 euros into Peurto De La Carmen for the wide selection of restaurants there.
Go into the old port which is a little further and the restaurants there were excellent. Locals playing boules kept the boys amused. Nice new shopping centre on the way!!
Went to the water park which we felt was a very expensive day out and very windy on top of a hill. (71 euros for the 4 of us).
We had a great time and would go back, not sure if to the hotel but would go to same resort as enjoyed the peaceful location and having the option to go to the port when you wanted a change of scene.

Submitted By: Miss R CarruthersThe room was cleaned, beds made and towels changed every day, the maids were lovely and very friendly, all staff were very helpful.
The food was good, not what we are used to at home but very nice for holiday.
The entertainment in the hotel is excellent, every night being different, for example; dancers, parrot shows, magic shows and Chinese circus.
Lanzarote it's self is a beautiful country with amazing sights and a lot to offer. The people are very friendly.
I would defintely go back to this hotel and to Lanzarote. We loved it!
