Stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of August and would recommend it. We stayed all inclusive and the only downside was the beer by the pool area is only served in tiny plastic glasses!! The food was ok too, not a great selection but they had all the basics like... more

Lovely hotel, staff very friendly, only problem was the sunbeds, people reserving them first thing in the morning and then not coming back to use them until about 2-3pm, which was very selfish. Staff ended up chaining them up until 9am which then gave everyone a fair... more

Shabby uncomfortable room. No table and chairs in sitting room. T.V. in bedroom with only one armchair. Balcony needed a good scrub and a coat of paint. Bathroom way past it's best. We knew there were better rooms available but a request to be moved was ignored.

Our family stayed on a self-catering basis here from 28th Dec 2009 to 4th Jan 2010 (2 40-something adults and a child of 50. The apart hotel is no more than a 10 min transfer from the airport and even though it's that near, the planes that pass didn't bother us. it has a... more

We stayed at the Sol Lanzarote in November for the 2nd time. The rooms are basic, but clean, the maid is in every day, and did a great job. We did not eat in the aparthotel so I cannot comment on the food, but we ate breakfast each morning - fresh bread rolls, cheese and... more

This is my second time to stay at the Sol Lanzarote and we plan to return in the spring. The first impression of the hotel foyer with its water fountains and marble floors is setting the scene for a great stay. We had an apartment - you can see from the photos it is small... more

I went to Sol Lanzarote last Easter for one week with my husband, and two daughters aged 11 and 7 (then). We had a fabulous time, so much so that we have booked again for this Easter for another week. We are not usually a "stick with what you know" family, but honestly it... more

Safe bet
I would strongly recommend Sol Lanzarote. The location is ideal, just a walk across a pedestrianised road to a fine beach. Unfortunately the weather was very cold when we were there at the end of January 2006,and we did not swim. The hotel pools were spacious and spotless but again too cold. The food was great, and we are fussy. Just like most other hotels diluted orange juice from a despenser. Staff were run off their feet as the hotel was almost full, great buzz. Nightly entertainment, very enjoyable also we could dance which pleased us a lot. I would definately go back again. Florrie Ireland
great holiday
myself, wife and 2 kids (9&10) have just returned from a 2 week holiday in lazarote, where we stayed at the sol lanzarote and had a great time..I've read the other reviews and heres what myself and the family thought.Your only 1 min from the beach, but the water is cold as is the pool,it was january so we did expect this and it was very quiet at the hotel. We would definatly recommend a stay at the sol lanzarote. 1.Yes,the reception staff and bar staff are probably the slowest you will ever meet. 2.Our room (2402) was cleaned daily and we had no problems with bugs etc. 3.We ate out every night, there is a good selection of restaraunts 5 mins walk and only had 1 bad meal. 4.Entertainment for the kids was great (thank you robin) 5.4 euros for a taxi into the busier parts.
Slow, unpleasant staff.
Just felt we should air our views on the staff working at this hotel!(excluding the entertainment team). We have never in all our years of visiting Sol hotels come across so many staff members of one establishment who seemed so unhappy in their jobs. We could count on one hand the amount of times we saw them smile, utter a friendly tone or help with any queries that we might have had. They were only short of standing a sign up on reception that said "Don't bother us"! This is the way they made you feel. But don't let them put you off as The Entertainment Team certainly make up for them as they are wonderful! PS: Left something behind after our holiday and e-mailed them three times but have never had a reply.
Excellent xmas break!
On arrival at hotel, check-in was very slow. Reception area really nice, with marble floor and water feature in centre. Room was really nice and big, we were half board so we never had any self-catering facilities. We had a T.V although most channels were German or Spanish. Not that you’re going to be watching it much! Room was cleaned every day and was spotless. Food was o.k. in hotel, just your average Spanish half board style!! Nothing special! I prefer to go self catering and eat out, but as Lanzarote is quite expensive we did save a lot of money by going half board. Although I couldn't have done it for two weeks. Activities at hotel during the day were centred on the kids and evening entertainment was just average hotel stuff!! We always go out for a drink anyway though. The centre of Matagorda is only a few minutes walk from the hotel, but is really small and is mainly singers in bars, not my scene! We got taxis into P.D.Carmen, which has slightly livelier bars with music on, but at this time of year wasn't really that busy, which surprised me. I'd never been on holiday abroad for Christmas before and to be honest Christmas day was just another day and we sunbathed! All in all it was a great holiday and we didn’t want to come home. We would definitely go away for Christmas again but perhaps to a livelier destination.
Another great time
Just back from the Sol Lanzarote, had a great time again (this is our second time this year). Everything was good apart from the weather but at least it didn't snow! the pool was a bit cold but didnt stop me from jumping in on Christmas day. The room was clean and had a buitiful veiw of the sea (room 3304). the entertainment was good (every one has there own opinion). the entertainers are so friendly and enjoy a laugh with the children as well as the adults. cant wait to get back in Easter to see all the entertainers again Roberto, Raul, Beatriz and peatriza and have such a laugh. Dont know much about the food we all ways eat out in the town.
great place
just returned from a week at the sol lanzarote. even thought we had ti ride out a tropical storm on opur second day, it did not put a damper on things. the room was large as was the bathroom with a great balcony overlooking the sea angled enough to miss the wind. it was a qiuet week in the hotel but the bar and entertainment staff were friendly and helpful. everything was clean, what a great job they did after the storm clearing and cleaning. finding our room was a bit difficult,a few signs would have helped. reception were not as helpful as they could have been. on the whole a great place to relax with the option of big nightlife a short taxi ride away.
Nice family area
We returned from our first trip to Lanzarote in October. Before we left for the Sol Lanzarote we were unsure as to what to expect as we had read so many mixed reviews but i must say we were pleasantly surprised. One area which i think could be improved is the directions to the rooms on arrival, we witnessed countless people during our two weeks going back and forth with suitcases and family in tow! We had a 1 bedroom appartment that was nice and clean with a t.v,microwave and a fair sized fridge, there was a 2 ring hotplate but no oven. The Towels were changed every day and the linen twice a week although more was available off the maids if required. The sunbeds were taken with towels early every day dispite notices saying this wasnt allowed but hey, isn't this the case everywhere? We found the staff friendly and helpful but cant comment on the barstaff (who we've seen described as slow) as we prefer to venture out at nights.
Loved it
My partner Michael and our two children have just come back from two wonderful weeks in Lanzarote. The Hotael was great, food was good, and overall I would recommend the island and the hotel toany family wanting a good family holiday, in a safe freindly environment.
loved it!!
i cant understand peoples bad reviews of sol lanzarote! have just got back and am already looking to book for january. Staff were great, especially the entertainers-Robin, you're a star and Luna i love you-thanks for all my free drinks!Entertainment at night was very good and theres a chance every night to win a bottle of champagne. Food was brilliant, and there was always plenty of it...the buffet never ran out, it was also good to see your meat, pasta etc being cooked right infront of you. Great place for families with children. All in all, the sol was brilliant and cannot wait to go back next year
Nice Location, shame about the staff
Returned from Sol Lanzarote a week ago, but wanted to take time to gather thougths rather than write a rant. So, here goes: The Hotel itself is in a beautiful location, just across the promenade from Matagorda Beach. Just 200m along the prom is a commercial centre with, amongs all the Irish Bars, a fantastic Curry House, a brilliant hairdresser/nailbar/therapy center and some car hire shops. It's a few kilometers to Puerto Del Carmen, a short taxi ride costs €3.50 to the nightlife or €4.50 to the "Old Town", but ask for "Varadero" because the Taxi drivers don't know where you mean when you ask for the Old Town! Also, if you're looking for a taxi from the Hotel, don't bother! The reception tell you they'll call one, but in my experience they don't. Better to walk out the gate that the main entrance faces and walk straight up that road to the taxi rank. The wait at reception can be lenghty. The facilities are generally good. Three pools and a kiddies paddle pool, soccer pitch, tennis courts, shooting/archery range, boules, climbing wall, poolside bar/cafe, lobby bar, broadband net access in lobby, couple of restaurants, gift shop, beauticians. The supermarket seems to be permanantly closed. My wife and I found the staff in general to be unhelpful and at times rude. On check-in the receptionist rather than hand our passports back to me, chose to slap them on the counter, followed by our keycards, guest card and a map, also slapped on the counter. The map by the way is something of a joke. Luckily we were in the same block as the reception so it was a simple task of using the lift and there we were. Others were not so lucky and it seemed to be a bit of entertainment for other guests to watch as new arrivals scoured the complex looking for their rooms! On the occasions when I needed to interact with reception I found the staff no more helpful. The "cleaners" had a habit of not replacing towels in our room, so having rung twice seeking towels, I ended up going to Reception to ask if they could give us towels. I was told "ok, ok, soon". Another hour later towels arrived. Only 3 hours since we'd first requested them. We had a similar experience looking for Loo Roll! Only when Vicky, the Direct Holidays rep, intervened was it resolved. Bar staff in the poolside bar were so rude, on one occasion I walked away leaving the drinks there, having listened to a rant in spanish (which isn't great, but I know what "puta" means). The pools are lovely and kept clean, but beware of missing tiles. The area around the pools however resembles an ashtray. Plenty of smokers seem to tip ash on the ground and then throw their butts on the ground rather than get an ashtray from the bar. As a result, a barefoot walk from the lounger to the pool and back leaves feet an interesting shade of grey. On the plus side, the rooms are great. Air conditioning is a godsend. Beds are comfy, big bathrooms, big wardrobes, free safety deposit boxes and plenty of kitchenware. However, no cleaning implements at all, so if you have a spillage or breakage, you'll need to improvise. Housekeeping won't come for ages!
