This 4-star hotel is in the peaceful resort of La Manga. It boasts elegant public areas and comfortable, modern bedrooms with excellent facilities. It is has beautiful views of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean Sea.
We have recently stayed in the Las Gaviotas hotel in La Manga. It is a small family run hotel and we expected the service to be friendly and efficient.
The restaurant staff never smiled and the service sometimes left a lot to be desired. The food was buffet style, but was very poor and often cold and not much variety.
We were on an all inclusive basis and often the food at dinner was the same as lunch, especially the desserts. We stayed for 2 weeks and the menu on the second week was exactly the same as the first, no variety.
The reception staff were better, quite helpful with limited English.
The pool area is fairly small and the pool was freezing, so no swimming for us. The bedrooms were of a decent size, with good views of the Med and Mar Menor, both within walking distance.
The bathrooms were OK with shower cream provided, but no other toiletries (soap, shower cap etc). There was a hairdryer in the bathroom.
The hotel is surrounded by apartment blocks and not a good outlook from lower floors. La Manga itself is very quiet, with local buses readily available and cheap.
In my opinion the Las Gaviotas does not warrant its 4 star status and I would not go again.
