Small complex, clean apartments, Pollensa disappointing

We stayed here for a week in early July and the weather was very warm - 30 degrees most days. The ground floor apartment was very clean with good furnishings. Fairly dated pieces of furniture and the beds in the lounge weren't very comfortable, the bedrooms had better mattresses. We had a patio close to the adult pool, plenty of sunbeds, the pool was clean and well maintained. Small stock of cold drinks, crisps and bread rolls served at reception. The staff were very helpful and the room attendants very thorough. Limited equipment in the kitchen but with the weather so warm we didn't use it much. There are a few "British Bar/Breakfast" type cafes on the way to the beach which I would avoid. Also avoid the Spanish restaurants around this area as we had quite a few poor meals. Better restaurants are towards the port. The new road had just opened and wasn't that busy, just a bit of road noise during working hours but not anything to worry about. Rep from Thomas Cook was helpful, worth going on the Discover Mallorca trip on the boat, tram and train. A night out at Pirates is only for those who like being herded with 1000 other Brits into a large hall, served lukewarm Chicken and Sausage and weak Sangria. The floor show was brilliant but I would suggest eating before you go as you may still be hungry after the meal!
Lovely big apartments with excellent staff

We spent a week here in June 08 with our 18 month old daughter mainly as a result of the good online reviews we'd seen. We booked through Thomas Cook, but never once saw or heard from a rep (as we hired a car from the airport) which was a bonus more than anything else and saved us from the endless hard sales for overpriced excursions. The apartment itself was really spacious. We had a two-bed apartment (not sure if they all are) which was more than big enough for the three of us. It was really clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The TV wasn't working when we first arrived, and when we reported it to reception they came up immediately and arranged to have it fixed. It wasn't a major issue for us (we don't come on holiday to watch TV!) but the staff seemed quite upset that things with the room weren't perfect! The Las Velas staff are what makes it really special - genuinely friendly and helpful. The gardens and pool areas are lovely, and it's great having the choice of two pools. We'd play in the kids pool with our daughter, and when she was having her sleep would take it in turns to lay out by the 'grown-ups' pool round the back which is much more peacful! The only thing to beware of is the new road. The section in front of the Las Velas apartments was open when we went, but because not all of the road is open yet it was very quite. I hope when it's fully open it doesn't spoil the apartments. The walk into the main town is a fair distance, which ordinarily wouldn't be an issue as it's a pleasant walk along the edge of the beach, but at 6 months pregnant this became a bit of an issue after a few nights! Would definitely recommend - but go sooner rather than later just in case the noise from the new road becomes an issue.
Shame about the weather

Stayed at the Las Velas apartments during the October half term holiday. The apartments themselves are in a quiet spot five minutes walk from the beach and about 15mins from the town centre. Although they are in the process of constructing a new road right outside the apartments, which although speaking to the staff they seem happy about it's bound to lead to more noise. The road is due for completion during 2008. The apartments were reasonably spacious, we had flat 8, which is top floor and so not only did we have a balcony but the top floor flats also get a huge roof terrace. The staff are very helpful and friendly (helped sort out car hire etc) and being that the apartments are in the same chain as the nearby Pollensa Park Hotel staying at the Las Velas you will be able to use the hotel facilities. All in all we had a good time the only real disappointment was the weather.
Wonderful Las Velas

We have stayed in Puerto Pollensa many times at either a villa/apartment and Las Velas are without doubt the best apartments we have ever stayed in. The rooms are spotlessly clean with maid service 6 times per week and towel change 6/week towels are thick and fluffy too!. The furnishings in the room are a little dated however this does not matter when it is so clean. Lovely well cared for gardens. Two lovely pools one quiter aimed at adults the other had childrens pool so busier with children. The best bit you could come down at anytime of day and there would always be free sunbeds heaven !! i think this is because there were only 28 apts. No bar however reception stocked chilled beer/soft drinks , wine and icecreams etc at very reasonable prices. The staff were exceptional so helpful and friendly and full of local knowledge. Few well stocked small supermarkets within 2 min walk. Centre of Puerto Pollensa approx 15min walk along the promenade but very pleasant and lots of nice watering holes along the way , usually got a taxi back approx 5 euros. All in all a great holiday so good we have already rebooked for next year.
Lovely Las Velas

Just returned from a week's holiday at beautiful Puerto Pollensa and the fantastic Las Velas apartments. There is nothing bad to say about the resort or the accommodation, wish we were still there!! Had a ground floor, 2-bed apt, just a few steps from the pool area, which was cool & clean all the time. Apartments just right, kept clean and fresh towels 5 days a week - brilliant! The staff were very friendly, spoke brilliant English and couldn't do enough to help, even the money exchange was commission free! What more do you need? I would definitely return to both the resort and Las Velas, you are guaranteed a fantastic holiday! The Shuttleworths - Manchester, GB

These apartments are spacious, clean and well cared for. There are two pools and lots of comfortable sun beds. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was our first visit to this property and we're told lots of people return again and again - I can understand why.
Viva Las Velas!

We have just returned from the Las Velas Apartments where we had a fantastic week. We had a ground floor 2 bedroomed apartments 5 steps from the pool, which our nearly 4 year old thought was fab. The complex was perfect - 2 lovely pools, seperate children's pool, and a playground, which kept our little girl entertained all week. We could not fault the complex. There are 2 supermarkets within 5 minutes walk. The centre of Puerto Pollensa was a 15/20 minute walk away along the beach front - and the weather was perfect. We would definately recommend to couples and families.
Very comfortable and spacious

We have just returned from a week at these apartments. We booked on the Wednesday & flew out on the Saturday. The apartment, one of only 28 (in total) in 3 blocks, was very spacious and well equipped with a seperate twin bedded room and a very large seperate full bathroom with an excellent shower too. 2 pools at the apartments both of very adequate size for the number of guests. We had a balcony looking south east to the beach which is about a 10 minute stroll away. 3 good supermarkets within a 10 minute stroll for all your needs. Town centre is about a 15 minute brisk walk with lots of bars & restaurants along trhe way. All very good value. Very nice clean sandy beach. Full facilities of Pollensa Park Hotel (5 minutes away on foot) including all entertainment, pool, etc. you can also have a 3 course self service/ eat as much as you like for 12 euros per person. We did not try it but the menu looked OK with plenty of choice. Porto de Pollenca is one of the least touristy beaches of the whole of Mallorca. Market day is Wednesday. We had a very good time and the apartment staff were very helpful and cheerful. Take lots of insect repellant - the Mallorcan mosquitos and other biting/stinging insects were ravenous. I understand this is an island thing not just where we were. The mountains are magnificent and set with the blue sea and white sand it really is very appealing. This place is exclusive to Thomas Cook. The flights and the local rep were all excellant as well.
Lovely Las Velas

We stayed at Las Velas in 2004 and our children (age 18 & 13) asked to go back this year. (It was that good!) Lovely setting, complex not too big; clean, comfortable apartment, 2 beautiful pools. Staff (Antonia etc) very friendly and helpful. Quiet setting, about 15 mins walk from centre of Puerto Pollensa, which is a delightful family resort with loads of great places to eat. Suitable for couples, or families with small or larger children.
Friendly Las Velas Apartments

We throroughly enjoyed our first visit to both Puerto Pollensa and Mallorca. The Las Velas Apts far exceeded our expectations of self-catering. The complex has 28 apts in total with 2 pools and never felt crowded even though we were there 8-22July 2006. The staff on a 24 hour reception were brilliant, very friendly, encouraged our son with his Spanish speaking and always had good tips on places to visit. They were brilliant when my daughter injured her hand. Nothing was too much trouble. We did not do any of the reps 'trips' prefering to plan our own days. The apt itself was very spacious with a fully fitted kitchen with toaster, fridge/freezer and full oven and hob. The apt was cleaned and towels changed at least every 2 days sometimes more and if anything needed replacing or fixing someone was onto it the same day. One of the great things was the air-con was individually controlled so you could have it on as much as you liked. The port itself had some lovely restaurants and shops. The beach was clean and the sea clear and not overcrowded at all. The pine walk is a lovely way to spend a morning strolling along the shade and having a coffee on the beach front. Pollensa old town with its 365 steps up to the church is a quaint place with lovely shops and a square where you can sit and eat tapas and watch the world go by. We would certainly go back to this resort and to Las Velas.
