we have stayed several times at this hotel a few years ago and having seen the recent mixed reviews were worried that it was not as good as in previous years,we did however have a great time the bar staff were brill(the reception staff were a bit starchy though)the food was good ,the cleanliness excellent everywhere and we felt we were being made welcome and wanted. We have in fact rebooked to go again later this year, perhaps visitors are put off by the aircraft but we are plane spotters so this was a bonus to us,also as interested in bird spotting the coast here is very wild with plenty of birds around, great!!

Just returned from a two week all inclusive holiday. We stayed here about six years ago and then it was great, however this time round, not so great.
When we were there about 80% percent of guests were spanish or over 50. The rest were a mixture of Germans and English.
Pool area: Fantastic, there's always a sunbed available and the back gate (operated by your room key on entry) leads you a few feet to the beach. There are 3 pools including one for small children, one coldwater and one climatized. Please note though that the larger pools have little shallow water so children have to be supervised.
Hotel appearance: If you've never stayed in a 4* hotel this would appear ok. However since we stayed there six years ago absolutely nothing has changed. The paintwork, carpets and furniture are still exactly the same (we have photo's from both stays to prove it). The hotel is kept clean with maid service in your room 7 days a week, but it seriously needs updating in places. Take a stroll down the promenade and have a nose at the other 4* hotels nearby, they put the Beatriz Playa to shame.
Food: Buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfasts were very good, lots of choice for all tastes and fresh pancakes and eggs cooked in the restaurant by the grill chef.
Lunch and dinner are extremely repetative and do not cater for children well, unless they live on chips for the whole of your stay. Don't be surprised if the Spanish guests push in front of you in the line, we experienced no manners from them at all. I would definately recommend the Pizzeria open Friday to Sunday for a change (bookable at reception).
Ice cream availability is very poor. On All inclusive this is available 4-6pm in a cup and only one flavour available each day. You can buy other ice creams from the chiller at 2 euros each.
Drinks: On all inclusive you can get local alcholic drinks, cocktails on tap (not recommended unless you like a fizzy pina colada) and all soft drinks on tap which include Coke, Fanta and Sprite. You can also get teas, freshly ground coffee and bottled water. Good tip: Get bottles of water from the Mindana bar in the evening for your room, this saves you the cost of buying from the shops.
Entertainment: The Animation team are excellent, very friendly and chatty and speak good English. During the day they put on a variety of sporting activities if you feel inclined which they announce around the pool. These include table tennis, football, beach Volley, archery, mini golf, rifle shooting and french bowles. Some of these are only available for over 16's. Winners get a certificate and sometimes a bottle of champagne (not the best, but the thought is there) a T-shirt or free entry to the Spa (which we never used). In the evenings they have a mini disco for the kids, where the entertainment team dress up as clowns and do different dance routines with the kids. Be prepared to get dragged up to join in if you sit near the front.
There is also different nightly entertainment which include dancers, acrobats, magician, parrot and reptile shows. Please note that if you have a photo taken with the latter 2 they expect 10 euros there and then and do not allow you to take your own photos. The photos aren't the best quality for the price, but are an ok snapshot if you're prepared to pay. Do remember that the shows are obviously catered for Spanish guests and although some do try and speak a little english, the majority are in spanish.
And now the downside. The service to the English is awful, you are treated like a second class citizen by the majority of staff. With the exception of the entertainment team who were great, the staff will always serve the Spanish and Germans before you, even if you were waiting first. We had several incidents in the restaurant where we asked for extra cutlery as there were not enough place settings on the table. The waiting staff would then see Spanish families come in and proceed to serve them first with drinks etc, leaving you still waiting, even after you have collected you're meal.
A few times my husband got so fed up he went and got his own cutlery. We never gave them reason to treat us rudely as we always said please and thank you and in Spanish. On one occasion a young spanish waiter slammed a glass down in front of us.
We spoke to 8 other English families who all experienced the same service. You can really understand how it feels to be discriminated against. We only came accross one waiter and one barman who were friendly towards us and apologised to us for the Spanish behaviour.
Overall this didn't spoil our holiday, but after 2 weeks it does start to get to you and it's not what you expect for a 4* hotel.

Hello, we are just back and were very disappointed in the hotel. First of all the people at the reception didn't give us all the information we needed and only spoke Spanish. The Food in the buffet restaurant was always the same and the food that should be warm was cold most of the time. The restaurant was so crowded that there were queues all the time and you should really watch your step, the vegetables were not fresh. In the hamburger restaurant; the hamburgers were baked when the restaurants opens and when you get there at four o'clock you still get the same hamburgers that were lying there under a hot light from the opening hour of the restaurant. In other words they were cold just like the french fries and the nuggets.
The bar at the pool closes at 4 o'lock in the afternoon and doesn't serve cocktails. WHAT POOL BAR DOESN'T SERVE COCKTAILS? The Piano bar serves sandwiches and doughnuts at 4 o'clock in the afternoon they're the same doughnuts and sandwiches that were laying at the breakfast buffet all morning so the sandwiches are hard. They keep these doughnuts and sandwiches lying there , also all afternoon with meat on them not cooled and protected, with flies on them it s disgusting!
The floor of the room wasn't cleaned in the eleven days we stayed there, same as the sheets on the bed. Overall the Hotel didn't gave me a clean impression at all. The only thing we were very positive about was the Pizza restaurant.

Just arrived back home from the Beatriz Playa hotel in Matagorda. We have been holidaying in this hotel now for nearly 10 years on a Half Board Basis and have been really happy with it, but will not be returning again.
The rooms were very clean and spacious as usual, but the hotel has now become an All Inclusive for the Spanish and boy has that made a difference. It used to be a quiet location, but this time it was noisy, hundreds of Spanish children running around, most of the day.
The food standards have definitely dropped, again the children were picking up food and putting back down again, biting bits off food and putting it back, poking the bread etc. We had to make sure we went down for the Evening Meal for it opening, so we knew what we were eating.
Also not as much choice of different foods, seem to have to stick to the same food each night as they catered more for the Spanish, whereas in previous years there was always a mixture of different foods.
Looking forward to going self catering next year!

This is a massive hotel, it has two separate blocks, one half having the dining area and the second having the entertainment the two are joined by a shopping section, and pool area.
The hotel has a wide variety of food and fish lovers would greatly enjoy this hotel. I found that the food and entertainment in this hotel was orientated towards the European market rather than British and for the first few days of our stay I didn’t even hear one other English speaking person until a flight from Dublin arrived.
Overall this hotel was wonderful and had lots in it.
They were doing work inside the hotel for a spa from next year. This work was not disruptive and apart from walking past that area you would never have know they were carrying any out.

We stayed in Beatriz Playa for one week (last week Feb/1st week Mar 07).
Weather suited us well as it was not too hot. However the nights did get quite cool & I had been warned about the change in temperature at night time, so we went equipped with two sets of clothing!
We (husband & wife) were very happy with the hotel.
The room, sorry rooms (!) big living room (TV), big bedroom (TV), fine size bathroom (shower & bath) & 2 balconies, were very comfortable, very clean, & cleaned on a daily basis.
A bottle of bubbly & red wine greeted us in the room on arrival: - lovely touch!
Just loved the food for both breakfast & evening meal:- buffet, which was great, so you were not confined to any one choice or style of meal, as you would have been if you had eaten out of the hotel, as the choice for both meals was just amazing, both hot & cold.
The staff at reception & restaurants were very friendly & helpful.
There was great variety of entertainment at night time & again the staff in this area were constantly ensuring that guests were enjoying themselves.
I would agree that maybe this hotel would not be a location for the younger holiday makers if they are looking for "mad" "lively" nights. But it certainly suited us as we wanted a "chill out" style holiday. Thank you Beatriz Playa for giving us that!

This hotel, although it had its good points, should not be rated 4*. It needs updating, modernising, and refreshing. Its facilities don't compare to the other 4* hotels in the area, where you seem to get more for your money.
Having said that, it is still a good hotel, just maybe not best value. What really stands out was the outstanding customer service...the staff is top rate. The animation team works very hard, and the Kid's Club seemed to do a great job. There was entertainment every evening, although suited to an older crowd. I would recommend this hotel to older guests and families with children.
The location was in a quiet place right on the promenade and very near (4 min. walk) a shopping centre with a wide choice of restaurants and bars. It was a lovely walk down the promenade (25/30 min.) to the main strip of Puerto del Carmen. The resort area itself was lovely, very clean, and people were very helpful and friendly.
We went for two weeks incl. Christmas in December. The first week (15th) was very very quiet, and some things were still closed. Right before Christmas, however, things began to liven up a bit. The weather was quite nice. There were several days hot and sunny for sitting by the pool, but there were some drizzly days better for shopping and pubbing. All in all, a heck of a lot nicer than Irish weather!
I'd recommend Lanzarote for Christmas. I think this hotel is good, but not 4*. But if a low-ley, friendly, family environment is what you'd like, then this is a great place for you.

What can I say, other than a lovely hotel.
Rooms were large and well kept, the entertainment staff were great and the fact a lot of Spanish families were in the hotel made it even better, as they seem to be well behaved.
The food was great and the fact it was close to the airport did not matter as the flight path was out at sea.
It is a pleasure to receive these comments and all the staff will be informed.

Last March, my family and I spent a fortnight in Lanzarote wich was brilliant, the only problem that we had found was that there is no public bus service in Lanzarote airport! and the queue to hail a taxi was endless. Fortunatedly we noticed there is an Hotelbeds office where they arranged a transport for us in within minutes!! and much cheaper than a taxi
