Whatever you do - DON'T STAY HERE !
The owner for this hotel is very rude and arrogant. DO NOT stay at this hotel. There are other decent hotels in Ovacik e.g. St. Nicholas. These are some of the lowlights for this hotel :- - The hotel does not allow you to take any water into your rooms. You have to buy from the hotel at extortionate rates. - The owner is very rude and stubborn. - AC is charged as an additional charge at £3 per day. - Items were removed from our rooms without permission. - Some days the rooms are not cleaned at all. - Some days the towels are not changed. - One other guest was asked to settle a bill that he had already paid.
Artemisia loved it
We stayed in the Artemisia in early sept this year and could find no fault with it. The rooms were very clean and tidy and had everything we needed. The views from the room and from the bar /pool were fantastic and as the temperatures were in the early 40's at one point the breeze coming up fom the surrounding mountains was a great relief. There was entertainment every night which was great fun, the bar staff worked very hard to involve guests day and night. The belly dancer from Bolton was a bit of a surprise! We would definately stay there again. Hisonarou is probably half an hours walk with lots of shops and some really good bars and restaurants. Yes the hill is very steep but if you take it slowly it isn't too bad. The only thing we would say is if you want to book any trips, check out the local agents as the holiday reps prices were about double .
The best holiday i ever had.
Myself and my best friend visited this hotel for a chilled out holiday and had a fantastic time. The staff -especially bar staff- were incredibly friendly and helpful and couldn't have made us feel more at home. I celebrated my birthday while I was there and when I came back to my room it had been decorated by the maid with flowers which was a beautiful thing to see,we were both upset to leave because we had had such a wonderful time and will DEFINATELY return in fact I wish I was there now! Although it is not ideally placed for nightlife a taxi is only the equivalent of a fiver into Hisonaru and for the superb location it is a worthy compromise.
great hotel
stayed for 2weeks, everything was fine with the staff. like other reviews rooms are very clean bar staff brill would go back. you could have problems with the hill up to the hotel. it was very hot so we never walked up allways got taxi.
Difficult to categorise
All you've read about the nice layout, clean rooms exellent pool is all correct. The hill is not small but my 6 and 4 year old walked it on more than one occasion just don't rush it, we nearly always bartered the taxis down at the dolmus stop because there was 4 of us it wasn't that much more for the benefit. We found the staff perfectly friendly and good with the kids especially the bar staff. Don't be obvious with the water and crisps etc, we got caught a couple of times but nothing was confiscated and anything in the fridge was taken out and left on the side. Just put any items in your case. There are no shops very handy but there some down the hill, this is where it is a bit odd, if you like your independence just strolling onto the town etc, then this is not the place, your either in the hotel or out of it, with kids anyway. If it was a bit nearer the town of Ovacik or Hisaronu it would make the ideal hotel.
NOT Recommended!
We stayed at the Artemisia Club Hotel for two weeks last august, on first impressions the hotel looked great, the views over Ovacik and the mountains are lovely and the rooms were always clean along with being large and having all the neccasary things you need. However, we also experienced issues with the staff, we had water & crisps confiscated by the receptionist who logged our goods item by item and told us we could only have them back when we had left the hotel grounds, in protest we would go back time & again to the reception and take great pleasure in asking for one item at a time and eat/drink them at the entrance of the hotel warning other guests to hide the water in their beach bags! The hotel located at the top of a massive hill, the dusty gravel road is knackering (i am a 28 year old man) coupled with the VERY rude and aggresive reception staff I would not recomend this hotel to my worst enemy! We have been to Turkey four times previously and have always had a great time, local people in the bars and shops are very friendly and I would highly recomend Turkey just dont stay at the Artemisa!
A bit mixed
On first impressions the hotel had beautiful views overlooking Ov acik and Hisaronu with Olu Deniz in the distance. The hotel is visually stunning and very well laid out. The rooms are kept very clean. We had a very large balcony overlooking the childrens playground which was very nice. There were a couple of things that spoiled it really and the first one is the size of the hill that the hotel is on top of. After reading other reviews we didn't think it would be that bad but believe you me it was, my husband said it was like being halfway up Everest!!! It was extremely steep and hard work getting to the top. There was a free taxi that ran till 8'0 clock at night and after that it cost 5 lira. Hisaronu is about a 35 min walk with the first 15 mins on dusty gravelly badly lit back roads. The other thing is, the fact that you are not allowed any food and drink in your room, not even water ! If they find anything they confiscate it and only give it you back when you leave. We were there the same time as miggymoggy and can confirm that they were treated very badly by the owner who was waving his arms about and shouting. They were asked to leave and the other couple decided to leave because they didn't agree with the way they were being treated either. There were three kittens there who were really lovely and friendly and caused no trouble whatsover, in fact we were feeding them and so was another lady (in fact the lady who ran off upset). All in all it is a lovely hotel but what happened to these couples and the cat and also the food and drink issue spoiled it for us. Shame !
Awful, shouted at by owner and thrown out for complaining
This was the worst holiday we have ever had. Given the setting is lovely and the pool is big, but trouble started when all the food was cold and there was little choice. We complained but were told if you don't like it then eat out! All the guests we spoke to were complaining about cold food and lack of choice. They have a strict policy about not taking your own drinks into the hotel. One night we bought 2 bottles of water from a local supermarket and on return to the hotel they asked to search our bags! When they found the water they confiscated it and said we weren't allowed it back until we checked out! The final straw happened when we saw one of the staff trying to put a kitten in a bin bag and tie it up. I protested and said this was cruel and other guests were crying and one girl ran off she couldn't bear it. I asked to see the owner. When the owner came out I was very upset and saying it was awful. His reaction was to shout at me and point his finger at me and say people who complain weren't welcome at the hotel and he demanded we leave! We couldn't believe it! I was in tears and my husband was asking the owner not to shout at me. They threatened to call the police unless we left. They made us sign a disclaimer saying that we left of our own accord. When we refused to sign this they said they would call the police and by this stage we were so terrified, shocked and upset we signed to get out of there! We couldn't get flights home until the next day but the Leytur hotel kindly gave us a room. They too were horrified by our treatment and said it was appauling. Another English couple were so horrified by our treatment at the Artemsia and the owner's reaction that they rang Jewel in the Crown (their holiday company) and asked to leave immediately and booked flghts home, despite the fact they were supposed to be staying there another week. Dreadful experience I wouldn't want anyone else to go through. Still in disbelief!!
brilliant hotel go back there tomorrow
Me and my partner travelled to this hotel in june this year, we arrived late afternoon, we got a really warm welcome by the staff everyone was so friendly. by the end of the 2 weeks we didn't want to return back from there it was just such a great holiday. i'd recomend this hotel to anyone.
What an amazing place!
My boyfriend and i stayed at the Artemisia for two weeks in June this year (2006). On arrival, all the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The hotel has double beds (which is very unusual for Turkey) which was nice and the room was really big. House keeping service the rooms every day and a few times we came back to see bunches of freshly picked flowers (from the gardens) on our bed. All the rooms have a balcony and in the evenings you can sit out and watch the glorious sunset over the mountains. The hotel is at the top of a hill so the views are amazing! There is a free taxi service from the bottom to the top of the hill (only takes 30secs) so you don't need to worry about walking if you can't or if you're just lazy like we were sometimes! Breakfast is just a simple Turkish Breakfast but its all fresh and you can get snacks for lunch. We only ate dinner in the hotel twice as there are so many places to eat out but it was fine when we did! Overall our holiday was perfect. The rooms were lovely, staff were friendly, the pool was really big and clean, in fact the whole hotel was spotless. I couldn't fault it at all. The best hotel, without a doubt, in the ovecik to Olu deniz region.
