Tryp De Saxe Hotel Reviews

7 / 10
Apr 2007, Miss L Smithson

This hotel was very modern and I was quite surprised considering it was a 3 star hotel. I felt very welcome as soon as I walked through the door, it was situated perfectly and it wasn’t a long walk to restaurants and shops! The transport links were also very good if you... more

Good Value
The room was a little small, but not particularly cramped. The location was quiet, and there was an open air market two days a week just up the alleyway on the main street. It was several blocks from a Metro station, but the price compensated for that in my opinion. The staff was friendly, and their English was adequate or better. We didn't try the breakfast as it seemed a little expensive, however it did look very good. I've posted a picture of our room.
Peaceful little hotel
It was a little tricky to find, even had to phone home to make sure I had the right address! However, being off a side street of a quite road in itself, this was the best nights sleep I've EVER had in a hotel. Very peaceful, no light or noise coming in from outside and an extra big fluffy pillow found in the cupboard - bliss. The view of the Eiffel Tower at night from the road outside was very pretty. The room was fine, enough space etc and had a small balcony which we enjoyed some wine and cheese on. The bathroom is basic and needs updating. Our showerhead attachment did not fit into the holder so had to put an elastic band around it to stop it keep turning to the wall with the water pressure. Our mini bar wasn't stoked on the first night so we asked it to be topped up. They didn't seem to make a note of this so tried to charge us for the missing items on departure but he didn't argue when we explained. Breakfast was a good selection of pastries, bread & cheeses, cereal, yogurt, eggs, sausages & toast etc and the tea wasn't too bad for France either! Would stay here again for the right price, we paid approx £200 each for the flights and 3 nights B&B, seemed good value for that. Didn't take any pictures of our room but those already here are typical of the room we stayed in.
Not really sure
Even the taxi driver had a problem finding it, and when he arrived, it seemed like a complete dead end with no sign of a hotel. However, walked up a slight incline into the reception, to be met by a rather tired and disinterested receptionist. The room was spacious, all the facilities were there, but the bathroom could have done with some attention. The shower was particularly interesting, as the pole that held the shower head was postioned at about four feet above the bath, so to shower we had to either crouch, or take the head off. The location of the hotel is very close to the Eiffel Tower, but there are no restaurants very near, although there is a good wet fish market just outside (not of much real use to the average tourist, but a pleasure to peruse!) The breakfast wasn't bad, although the coffee was a bit stewed.
Great Experience!
I can say what most others have said. This is a quaint hotel which was reasonably priced and had friendly service. This is not a 5 star hotel and it is not in the middle of the paris nightlife. IT IS however a great home base in a quiet and peaceful and pretty area. As others have said, the hotel was clean, the rooms were an okay size, the service was spot on, and there was a lovely open air market in mornings (thursdays and saturdays) and we found (my wife and I) the walk to the metro to be easy and we even would stop on our way to enjoy a crepe and an espresso. You almost start feeling like you live in Paris, because you're not staying in the ultra touristy areas. 10 min (walk) from some great cafes & the metro (which can take you anywhere easily) and a 20 min walk to the eiffel tower (which you can see right from the hotel at a good angel). Also a 10 min walk from Rue Cler, an excellent street with many fine shops (mostly food, yummy). I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Really enjoyed our stay!
This was my first visit to Paris celebrating 10 years of married bliss (well most of the time anyway!) The hotel was as described in the other reviews and, most importanly, by the hotel web adverts - even the photos were genuine. The hotel is situated in a really quite nice part of the city - I kept reading how certain parts of the city were not particularly pleasant - well I felt very comfortable walking around this hotel area at night. The rooms were clean and pleasant - the decor is attractive and in very good order. The hotel is part of a chain which contains larger hotels - so you received quality hotel service. The lift is quite fun and very compact. Breakfast was very enoyable with plenty of choice. Look out for the super market on saturday mornings very close to the hotel.
perfect
We stayed there last year, and now that I have discovered this site, I want to write about this good hotel. The room was fantastic, the place very quiet, and all was great. If I only had to say one wrong thing, I would say that some days we had to wait for a long time to have breakfast, but it wasn't important if we think about what we paid for our staying there.
Nice hotel
My family stayed here on our first trip to Paris and found the hotel to be very nice. The room was a pretty good size and the staff were very friendly. The location was also very good, being nice and quiet yet a short walk from the Eifel Tower. There is also a really good market on the street outside the hotel!!! Great place to have breakfast if you arent up to buns and fruit in the hotels restaurant. Only downside is no kettle in the room! But...we can live with that as the hotel was very good and the rooms were both very clean and comfortable! We would stay here again.
Nice
We stayed in the Tryp de Saxe for New Years eve this year, and it is a very pleasant hotel. It is located at the end of a rather charming alley in a nice part of the city. It is not a super-touristy area, which was nice, as it felt like you were in a very residential and "authentic" area of Paris (kind of like staying on the Upper West Side of Manhattan instead of Midtown). The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was small but very nice. We even had a balcony overlooking the courtyard, with a view of the (top of) the eiffel tower. I would highly recommend this hotel - its a great deal for the price.
An excellent find
We've stayed in the Tryp de Saxe twice. The second time, we had checked into a different hotel, but after one night, we checked out and went back to the Tryp de Saxe. Next time, we'll just save ourselves the trouble and start off in this pleasant and reasonably-priced hotel. The rooms are very clean and well-kept up, the beds are comfortable, and the staff is friendly. Room size is pretty good for a Paris hotel. The one complaint was that, in the morning, a faint smell of cooking grease floated into our room from the kitchen. The area is very quiet. If you want a place in the middle of the hustle-and-bustle of Paris, this is not it. But it's only a five-to-ten minute walk totwo Metro stops (Segur and Duroc) depending on your walking speed. As the other review notes, there is a pleasant open-air market nearby once a week. Both times we have stayed there, we have gotten very good deals on the room rate--once from expedia, and the second time from the hotel's official website (----------). Both deals put the Tryp de Saxe into the "budget hotel" price range, but the quality of the hotel is well above budget hotel quality. As I said, we definitely plan to return.
Exceptionally pleasant, quiet stay at Sol Melia Inn de Saxe
Looking for peace and quiet, interrupted only occasionally by the peal of church bells? Looking for polite, responsive, English speaking staff? Looking for well-lit, large rooms and an excellent breakfast? Look no further than Sol Melia Inn de Saxe (Tryp de Saxe). I stayed there five nights in February 2003, and it was a true pleasure to return "home" each night to this excellent neighborhood. To top it off, the famous de Saxe-Breteuil open-air market fills your senses right outside the door. Had occasional lapses of comprehension with night staff who spoke less English, and the dining room was pandemonium one morning when everyone wanted to eat at once. I am staying there again in April 2004 (hope I get a bathtub this time!).
