Had a fantastic holiday, went self-catering and upgraded once we got there to all inclusive (which was a bonus because we then had a full equipped kitchen!!) The staff were very helpful, apartment clean, food excellent and the weather was roasting hot! Couldnt ask for better!! Definitely coming back!

great time had by all
we have just returned from sun tropical (10th - 17th feb 2005) and had a really good holiday! the weather was really bad rain for 4 days but the entertainment team did their best to keep everyone happy! the food in the restaurants id say is a no go but the buffet restaurant was great and very cheap! the rooms were ample and were cleaned 6 days a week ( best service possible!) the site itself is the most child friendly and secure site were stayed on and by far one of the cleanist!! the pool area is very slippy when wet and like the broucher states the pools are acclimatized so if the weathers not great the pools are cold they did get warmer as the temp went up!! the entertainment is fine only 3 perfessional acts but the entertainment team were wonderfull and made the time there fun for all of us!! not the best place to be in torrential rain as the buildings are not designed to withstand that kind of weather but that isnt their fault its natures! overall would definately go back there and would advise it to any families!!
What Acclimatised pools?!?
My husband and my 8 month old son have just returned from Sun Tropical - we visited 3rd - 10th January 2005 and stayed All Inclusive. This review is only useful if you are visiting around winter time. I shopped around for an All Inclusive holiday in the Canaries and ended up with this hotel partly because we got a very good price, but mainly because 4 out of the 5 pools were acclimatised. They were not acclimatised to Lanazrote weather! They were freezing - the few people who did venture into the pool (my husband refusing to go to a hotel with a lovely pool and not get in!) promptly jumped out stinging from the cold! - we were gutted we couldn't swim as I was planing to take my son in the kids pools. The food was average - definately not recommended for vegetarians. I never have hugely high expectations on an All Incluisive but It was all a bit repetative and badly labeled. Although I did enjoy the Mexican as I ordered a fillet steak (included in AI) and it was lovely (shame about the veg.) The Italian was a very basic Italian nothing special. (all restaurants have highchairs) The daytime entertainment was almost non-existant. It was very low key and badly sign posted. They still adverised Water Polo even though the artic waters were almost frozen! They had a great beach volleyball pitch but never organised beach Volleyball! And Crazy Golf (which sound fun) was a wooden board with some holes in it propped up against a chair - CRAZY EH! As we had an 8 month old with us we rarely went into the 'dome' to see the evening entertainement - but the few nights we did see were pretty bad - the accustics aren't good so you have to strain to understand them. However the singer/guitar player in the 'Irish Bar' was fantastic with a good choice of songs. It is very cold in the evenings during the winter so a light jumper is not enough - take a coat or very warm jumpers. The weather during our stay was great although one day was overcast and it gets very cold with no sun a a bit of wind! The rooms are very good - comfy, tidy and the kitchens are modern ard well stocked i.e. microwave, kettle, toaster etc. Although the rooms do get cold at night. I would also try to get a balcony/terrace with sun! ours never got any sun which was a pain. The walk to the beach/town takes 10/15 mins and we found it a really nice walk (we are not really into walking). The shops are good and there are restaurants and bars dotted around for plenty of food and drinks. As everone else has said the who hotel is very clean they seem to clean all the time. One really nice thing was how quite the hotel was - because it is so spaced out it seemed really quiet and relaxing (sometimes too quite) This is not a posh hotel - this hotel is designed for families and is more practical than posh (although if you think it is like Butlins then it is a posh Butlins!) With a bit more personality and heating (pools & rooms) then this hotel would be much better and I am sure in the summer the whole hotel would be completely different.... Ideal for kids!
fab time
Me and my family stayed at sun tropical last october and had a great time, it is the perfect place for families with kids, my little boy had a great time. We loved the choice of swimming pools with one never far from your appartment, there is free juice, crisps, ice cream etc all day for the kids which is good. The appartments I found to be quite small but the complex was very well maintained, it is about fifteen minutes walk to the beach but we had no problem getting a taxi. We were half bored and the food was fine some people twist for nothing. There is plenty of trips to go on, my liitle boy loved the submarine. The kids club was great too and is on two some times three times a day. Overall we had a great time and are going back this june.
xmas nightmare
I have just returned from sun tropical,We were looking forward to are 1st christmas away wont be doing again in a hurry.Couldnt fault cleanliness of rooms & staff were very friendly. But would like to warn you all that the pools were not heated, daughter & i braved it to have a swim twice ended up with a chill. We were there for 2 weeks could of quite happily come home after 1st week.No christmas spirit or any sort of atmosphere couldnt wait to get home. Entertainment was bloody awful same thing everynight in the dome (doom as we called it )kiddies disco, football cards, bingo, then maybe reps show or some sad acts.Im sorry but do u think some women doing splits and swinging off her mans neck for 40minutes is entertainment then go by all means.Dont get me wrong rep show was ok but if i wanted redcoats i would of gone to butlins and they do it better anyway. There was one good point and his name was gazza they put him on in the tavern two nights a week for an hour or two should of been in dome( doom) as he was brilliant got everyone singing and clapping loved him.Just a word of advice if have kids over 11 they will be bored out of there brain as my 12 yr was.Weather wasnt great when we were there so there wasnt alot for her to do apart from computer or lounge about playing cards with us,which was a shame as there wasnt any decent activities as back up.We were all inclu food was better then weve had at other all inclu resorts but stay clear of italian, tex mex on site as was really disgusting served by your own b.o chef(very nice not)Hope my review will help you out
give this a miss in december
i had booked to come to lanzarote in december after having visited in october. I was with my daughter who is 15 years of age. On arrival i could not pick fault and the reservation staff were helpful on relocating us both to a room with a pool view. Then .... it got steadily worse ... during the day it was fine because we could go out of the complex into playa balnca and fill our time doing touristy excursions. One night we went to the DOME where the entertainment takes place and it was just awful...... mediocre entertainment that was so boring. Since we were self catering we chose to eat twice in the complex and both times the meal was dire and tasteless and that was trying both the italian and the mexican resturants, how awful for this complex to promote another countries fare and then serve it like hospital food tasteless and bland. Needless to say i cant wait till thursday for my flight back home and it can't come quick enough. If i could get the ferry to fuerteventura and travel home from there tomorrow as that particualr island has a wednesday departure to scotland i would not hesitate. This has been the most awful holiday ever and if i had realised the concept of package holiday nightmares then i would have thought twice of booking this waste of time. So if you want stalag sun tropical then this is a must.
relaxing holiday
just got back from these appartments (nov 2004) found everything very clean.excellent service.nice walk to the beach and town.good food outside in the restaurants and plenty to choose from. lovely quiet holiday .the weather was very hot too. didnt enjoy the walk to papaguayo beach though.you realy need a car.
good complex and staff food not up to a good standard.
The complex was very clean with many staff working very hard. The First Choice staff had just change so were still feeling their feet but were doing a good job. It was not very busy and many couples had very young children which was ok for our 2 year old but not so good for our 11 year old. Was adviced by one of the reps it was a bit late in the season and we would be better going about June time for our older child. Weather was good after a couple of days but the previous week was quite cold we were told. Now for the food it was always warm or cold and the childrens food was always over cooked my 2 year old had great trouble trying to chew the chicken nuggets and believe me they were hard. We and many other people did speak to the reps on a number of times but nothing really changed. We would recommend this resort as you can walk to the beach in 15 to 20 minutes and the rooms were clean and spacious but we were not happy with food. We often went to burger king for the children to eat which was a waste of money on the all inclusive package. I will be writing to First Choice about the food but this has been done before and nothing has changed. Overall we had a very nice holiday and if you are not fussy about your food it would be cheaper to go all inclusive than go self catering and eating out.
Really good holiday.... a few tips....
We spent a week at the Sun Tropical in November 2004 and I was a little wary at first after finding out it is a 'Holiday Village' and we dont have any children. However, the complex is huge and there is plenty of space (we went in low season) and although there is plenty of onsite entertainment for both Adults and Children, you're not obliged to join in if you just want a quiet break away. We had a fantastic week there and I would definately go back! There are numerous pools, 1 large with Pool Bar and 6 smaller ones which are situated between apartment blocks. The larger pool is cold!!!! but I heard the smaller ones are heated, although I didn't try them. The Sun Tropical is quite newly built and although the rooms do now show the expected signs of wear and tear, we found our room was in excellent condition and both clean and tidy. The cleaner made 'Swans' out of our towels which was cute. We had a lovely balcony overlooking one of the smaller pools and found spare pillows and a blanket in the large wardrobe incase needed. Hot water we found was only luke warm during 'busy' periods of the mornings and evenings but otherwise nice and hot. We were Self Catering and the complex has a disco/bar/entertainment venue and some on-site restaurants but as we'd heard bad reviews of the food at the Sun Tropical, we decided not to try them. There is also an onsite supermarket but it is very expensive compared to those off site although convienient for arrival guests and urgent bits. The staff and Reps were all very friendly and helpful. We didnt like the ground floor room we were allocated on arrival as we prefer upper floor balcony rooms, and the receptionist swapped our room immediately for us - no questions asked! I have heard many people complain that this complex is gated around the perimeter but I dont actually see this as a bad thing. It provides security and peace of mind and there are numerous exit gates open from 9am - 6pm. After this time, you do have to walk all the way around the outside of the complex on your way into town and it IS a longer walk and is unlit, however, the night before we left we found out that for a small deposit you can ask Reception for a security pass which swipes you in and out of the side gate at night and halves the long walk! If you still dont like the idea though, then a taxi from Reception to Playa Blanca's town centre is only 2.5 Euros and they come very quickly and are easy to find when you want to get back later. We travelled with First Choice and would highly recommend the 'Tour of Lanzarote' day trip!
Absolutely brilliant
Just returned from 2 weeks at Sun Tropical, and had an absolutely fantastic time. Went with partner and 2 children, aged 10 and 15, and was bit worried after reading some of the reviews prior to going. Am now convinced that some people will moan for the sake of it. The complex was huge, and spotlessly clean. The hotel staff were very friendly and approachable, and responded to any requests immediately. The food was good, plenty of choice, with something for everyone, which we were pleased about as we went all inclusive. Worth every penny. A ten minute walk takes you into the resort, with loads of shops, restaurants, and a gorgeous golden sandy beach. Alternatively, a taxi costs under 3 Euros, and the reception staff will arrange for these with pleasure. Plenty to do in the Sun Tropical complex, particularly for the sporty, with excellent kids clubs and reps arranging different family activities every hour for those who wanted to join in, (and we did)! Can highly recommend the Sun Tropical to anyone, particularly families. Ignore the moaners!!
Best Holiday Ever!!
This is the best holiday we have ever been on! There were 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids We had a great apartment in the melon block and it was yards away from one of the 5 excellent pools. It was clean and modern and there was no complaints about that. We were half board so we ate at the resturant which was a buffet they catered for everyone, speaking from a fussy eater's point of view, the food was excellent. The entertainment in the night was good especially the mini disco which was a disco for the kids. The one downside was the resident band Powder Blue. They cleared The Dome every night due to their poor singing capabilities. The reps were fantastic, they were always friendly and we made friends with a lot of them. There was always activities to do and the reps informed you of them by speakers that they came around with. I am 14 years old and it was not at all boring for me there was a teen club and loads of games and activities to take part in. This was the best holiday ever and i would happily recommend it to EVERYONE!!
