I was at the Sun Tropical Holiday...
7 / 10
Mar 2008, Mrs K McAleenan

I was at the Sun Tropical Holiday Village, the last week in November. I really enjoyed the holiday, the apartments were very clean, maid service was 6 time a week i think, clean towels every other day so i couldn't complain about that. The enetertainment staff were great especially with the kids, they put in so much work trying to keep everybody busy. I was there with my husband, my 4 year old daughter, our two friends and their 3 year old daughter. They managed to get us rooms next to each other which was great for the kids. There are a few things i could moan about though.
Swimming pools were absolutely freezing, they said they were heated, they must have heated them at night or something because they certainly weren't heated through the day. You actually start to go numb once you have been in them for about 5 minutes. The restaurants were good but you couldn't do things like go and help yourself to a bottle of water from the fridge if you were all inclusive, you had to go to the on site shop and buy that, also not everything was all inclusive, you had to pay for doughnuts and there was only 1 flavour of crisps included in A/I, you had to pay for the other flavours. The snack bar was very limited for A/I you could basically choose from a toastie, a hotdog, chips, everything else you had to pay for (cheeseburgers, onion rings butties, sausage etc) i would go back but not All Inclusive it was a bit of a rip off to be honest. We went for a week and ended up spending £600 on top of teh £1200 we paid for teh 1 week holiday we ate out a few time aswell but only because the buffet was a bit repetative.
But it was very clean, i think there were about 4 pools all in and 2 baby pools, a small swing park also.

Just arrived back from a weeks...
8 / 10
Mar 2008, Mr A Dean

Just arrived back from a weeks holidays at the end of Feb and missing the place already.
Firstly i couldn't really fault the hotel,it was clean, well maintained, well laid out and the rooms were spotless and cleaned daily, any staff dealings were done in a first class manner.
The room facilities were fine,we were self catering and found it refreshing to be so,we normally go all-inclusive but i had read online that there were plenty of cheap bars near the hotel so we opted for that,im glad we did(more on the bars later).
With that in mind i could not comment on the hotels all-inclusive food quality.
On the resort there are various themed restraunts and we did try the 'chicken shack' which was ok,the highlight for onsite food was the pizza area in the food centre, they cook fresh pizza's to order and take away which was very nice and the staff there great too.
The bars were fine and if you were a 'paying' customer you got the good spirits etc,not the cheap all inclusive stuff.
The pools were clean and sunloungers accessable, obviously due to the time of year.
Bear in mind if you go for a swim the pools are FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know,i took the plunge everyday..........great for getting rid of a hangover i can tell you!!!!!!!!
Peak season im sure they are fantastic but early in the year they are a bit nippy!
When you arrive be sure and buy the back-gate pass for 10 euros, which you get back when you leave.
This cuts out a lot of time when going back anf forwards to the main playa-blanca area.
Basically the gate is activated with the swipe card and allows free access all the time.
Out of the back gate you across the 2 small roads, turn right and follow the path to the roundabout, turn left and follow the road into the main area............here are hundreds and quality shops, bars, restraunts, pubs etc..........a huge choice of shopping and eating/drinking locations.
They also extend all along the sea front which is located down there to.
We found the staff of 'The Nags Head', Ian and Lynn were fantastic and could not do enough for you, also the food there was great, directly across from there was the scottish pub 'The Fiddlers', again friendly and below the Irish bar,all in all a great choice.......and this was all in one small spot.
The best thing to do is explore and find your own favourites, the prices are all roughly the same and thats why we went self catering.
Weather wise it was pretty poor, rained the first 2 days, sunny the next 2,then the last 3 cloudy/sunny...............but hey what do you expect in February when its snowing back home!!!!!!!!!
Again peak season must be great because when the sun did come out it was HOT even now!!!!!
Overall this was a nice holiday,a great little break and i miss the sights and the people i missed.
Im sure i will go back again,if only to get another 'MAXI' at the Nags head!!!!!!!!!
Hope this review helps you.

Feb 2008, Miss B Harrison

i thought sun tropical was a great place to take the children and we had a great 2 weeks there i would like to return there. the entertainment was great and the adults and children are never to far away for something to do. the only reason sun tropical does not get a full 10 is because the food did get a bit boring towards the end of the 2 wks. would completely recomend the villages and we will be going to the village in majorca this year.

My Wife (Joy) and Myself(Kev)...

Feb 2008, Mr K Jewkes

My Wife (Joy) and Myself(Kev)
had a great couple of weeks here after we booked we decided to look at the reviews for this complex as we had booked a late deal most of the reviews were pretty negative ie. bland food and from what i could see pretty weak complaints to start with we spoke to people there about the food as it was brilliant for the money.
Sorry but the complaints in the reviews must have been people wanting to pay Burger money for Caviar, (get a grip lol).
Ok the resort is qiute a way from the beach but there is an hourly free bus laid on or you can get a taxi from the hotal to the beach which costs anything from 2 euro30 to 2 euro 50cents which is what we did. As far as shopping in town itself, there isnt a lot, plenty of places to eat but the shopping is a bit repetative as far as goods are concered prices at most were quite reasonable however we found the best deals were about 3 streets back from the beacfront as you would expect,
at the front there are 2 beaches within a short walk of each other and plenty of seating to sit and havea breather as you go.
The first week was rather quiet as we were finding our way around but the 2nd week was brilliant, as there was a new intake at the hotel, and these breaks are what you make of them,
people put themselves out to get to know each other at the night in the bars etc, which realy made the break sunshine good company friendly staff good food what more can you ask for?
Go to this comlex knowing for a fact you are going to get value for money, go with the intention of getting to know people, and having a good time, and you'll realy enjoy it, go with an attude of as i said previous caviar for burger money, then dont bother as this place has good food, for value for money, great staff, and good clean accomodation, all in all a graet place.
But to enjoy it you have to do your bit, by the way to those we holiday'ed with,
Thank you for your company, we realy hope we meet up again at a later date, thank you all it was great to meet you all you made our hols, cheers joy and kev (kipper)and john look behind you lol i could be anywhere lol

I went on a work experience to sun...
10 / 10
Jan 2008, Miss RJ Lee

I went on a work experience to sun tropical on the 20/1/08 to 27/1/08 with a party of 18 student and 3 tutors. Throught the trip we shadowed reps and entertainers. We had a brilliant time. the resort was beautyiful and the staff members are extremly helpful and welcoming. Whilst at sun tropical we joined in with a variuos number of activities throughout the day and evening. Early years students shadowed childrens reps in the amazing kids clubs that the resort had to offer. these clubs catered for children aged 0-15. We also worked with adult entertainment in the tavern bar and throught the resort joining in bar games, volly ball, football, bowls, quizzes and many more. Whilst on our trip we joined in on 2 excursions to rancho texas and tittie trollop's. Rancho texas is an exellent fercillity were children and adults can join in with the team to dance and have a good time. meals are included which were chicken, riobs, chicken nuggets , chips, jacket potatoes and salads. drinks were also included such as beers and sangria and soft drinksall night. face painting is also available which was good as we had tiggers!!!!
Titti trollp's was a good night in a smallish venue with food included all tho it was a gfood night drinks are not included in the excursion but can be purchased there but are quite expensive. Whilst staying at the holiday village we used the bars and restrauts in the venue and down in playa blanca. We enjoyed the pizzaria and the chicken shak which served food almost all day and late at night. Down in town we visited the china town chinese which was great and had very friendly people. The bars in town were a;lspo very enjoyable and people really made you feel welcome. there are many supermarkets avail;ble for people who choose to go self catering. The beach is clean and sunbeds are availble to hire. The staff at the resort helped us to enjoy a wonderful time whilst we were learning. And from this experience we gained a wide understanding of the reps roles. This has encouraged us to become holidays and childrens reps. The staff gave very good reports about the company in2action and we have already applied for jobs there. We would like to take the oppertunity to thank everybody for there help and for making us feel very welcome and we hope to see you out there were we can learn more. Thanks Becky, Kirsty, Claire, Steffi, Gen, Sarah, Jenna, Sophie, Andy, Lara, Steff, Narna,Amy,Lara, Jenna,Stacey, charlotte, tina, sharon and niki xx

My first time in Lanzarote and it...

Jan 2008, Mrs M Millson

My first time in Lanzarote and it won’t be my last. My daughter and I loved staying at the Sun Tropical.
Thought everything was great the apartments are well equipped. Staff were very nice helpful and pleasant I go many holidays and would recommend. They also thought Playa Blanca was lovely.
I love walking and did so every day into town and beach. We had the back door key for ten Euros which is given back on return of key. The maids were very nice and made sure they got a tip.
I will take my grandson next time as I know he would love it. Also it was my first time with First Choice and can honestly say the reps were the best I have known, also flights were on time both ways.
Just loved it and wish I was back.

I travelled with my sister, my mam...
10 / 10
Jan 2008, Jo-anne J

I travelled with my sister, my mam and 3 children, aged 10, 11, & 13. We booked with First Choice. I thought the whole holiday was marvellous.
We were greeted immediately at the airport by a very pleasant rep, were straight on the coach, and off to the resort, which took about 35 minutes. The rep was very informative, explaining the island and the volcanoes as we travelled. On arrival the reception desk was very quick and sorted us out with our all inclusive bands.
We bought a back gate pass which is a refundable 10 Euros, although we only used it once. Preferring to use the free shuttle bus which runs on the hour from 10am - 5pm into playa Blanca, it takes 5 minutes. Returning at 15 minutes past the hour. A taxi is only 2.50 Euros.
The safe is 20 Euros which you get 5 Euros back when you return the key. We went straight to the pool, there are about 8 in total but only 1 baby pool is heated, they are FREEZING be warned! Due to the time of year there were lots of beds and comfy mattresses for the beds.
The main restaurant is very nice, the pizza and the Spanish are lovely too, and with all inclusive you get to go to these 2 restaurants once in your stay. The chicken shack is quite rank, but the kids loved it and if you are starving the food is OK.
There is a quiz every day at 12.30 which is good fun, then the reps have a head to head show down with one of the adults from the dome the night before, these are stupid but a good laugh, i.e. ice cream eating competition or star jumps! The kids thought it was hilarious. The weather was overcast for the mornings but then glorious sunshine for the rest of the day.
We paid for the satellite TV, 3 Euros per day and got the movie channels etc. The evening entertainment is good. It was switch over when we were there so there was other acts brought in. The entertainment on a night is in the dome, and then karaoke in the Tavern Bar. The reps work very hard and the shows they performed were excellent. The kids enjoyed the nights when we were involved with the sides of the dome competing against each other with games. Luke took us all on a walk to Playa Blanca, after the welcome meeting which was very informative and a lovely touch.
The food as I have said was fab, tasty good variety and plenty of it, for all of the meals. The drink is exactly the same, no complaints there! There is a little shop beside the children’s club which has pop, crisps, and ice cream and ice lollies. At the moment even self catering children are being given a band so they can have free drinks and ice creams, which I think is a great thing.
The rooms were lovely too, well furnished. Comfortable beds, nice bathroom with plenty of clean towels. There is a very comprehensive kitchen area in the room, even for all inclusive guests, so take your tea and coffee with you as the shop is quite expensive.
There is a gym, sauna, laundry, supermarket in the resort. The hotel is right next to another hotel so you can use their pool too if you wish.
The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to Playa Blanca which is a lovely resort with lots of bars, shops, and restaurants. It also has a lovely market around the marina on a Saturday morning.
The children's club was quite naff for our aged children. The air hockey or pool table didn't work. They probably could have done with something else to keep them interested. A lot of the activities they had to pay for, i.e. climbing and football lessons, the other activities they didn't want to do, but they had fun larking around the pool. So it didn't matter really. I suspect it was more of our children just not wanting to join in rather than the fault of the hotel. The children's club for the younger children was fab and they all loved it.
Our children went on the scuba diving trip for 50 Euros each and had a wonderful time. We had a lovely time drinking hot chocolate in the bar next door to the dive centre!
The play leaders were all really nice and helpful and clearly love their jobs.
The entertainment team were all superb. I have been on many holidays and this is the best all round reps/entertainers/children's club I have encountered.
If you don't enjoy your holiday here, I would recommend that you just save your money and don't bother going away on holiday anymore!!

My partner and I have just returned...
8 / 10
Jan 2008, Miss S Eaves

My partner and I have just returned from a week’s holiday to Sun Tropical. It wouldn't have been somewhere we would normally have booked to stay, had it not been for the fact that we were after a cheap, lazy week in the sun. And it was so cheap, we wondered what the catch was! Having read the reviews before we went, we thought the butlins reference may have had something to do with it.
But we needn't have worried, although we accept that we went in January and not peak season. The complex would be ideal for families with young children due to the many entertainment facilities available, but it was equally enjoyable for ourselves as a young couples without children looking for a relaxing holiday in a quiet resort.
Our apartment was spotless (cleaned daily), modern and comparatively spacious with other one-bed apartments we have stayed in. The kitchenette was reasonably well equipped to make light meals and snacks. All apartment blocks either surrounded a pool or a garden area. No balconies had views over car parks, busy streets etc.
The staff all seemed friendly, although we didn't need to have much contact with them, as no problems.
The main pool was cold, as others have said, but I went in 3 times in a week and soon acclimatised. The smaller pools were always busier (probably warmer), but we preferred the large one as it was quieter.
The only possible down side to Sun Tropical, although it did not cause us a problem, was that the complex was not in the centre of the resort. It was 10 mins walk to the nearest shops and beach and probably 20 mins from resort centre via the back gate of the complex. The flip side of this was that the complex was in a very quiet location.
The 'dome', housing the evening entertainment, was not located amongst the apartments, meaning that we weren't able to hear music etc from our apartment in the evening and probably from any apartment for that matter.
In summary: an excellent holiday at a very cheap price. The complex is ideal for young families, though we would happily recommend to everyone. It is possible that the complex may become very busy with children in peak season, although in January this was not evident.

As a family of four (Girls aged 14...
10 / 10
Jan 2008, Mrs S Rutter

As a family of four (Girls aged 14 and 12) we really enjoyed this holiday. The complex is a good size and caters well for all ages.
Staying over the Christmas period there were enough families to make the place busy but not overcrowded. The complex has a well stocked supermarket which sells at competitive prices and two places to eat out. We tried the Pizzeria on our first night and did find the service was a bit slack although there was only one waitress serving. Cannot really comment on this further as we did eat by the harbour for the rest of our stay.
The swimming pools are cold especially the main one, which is huge, but the smaller ones by the apartment blocks were always busy. The nightly entertainment is held in the dome which can get a little chilly so just take a cardi which is ample.
The entertainment staff worked really hard and kept the little ones amused, a little more boring for our girls but they were in the minority so this may well be different during the summer season. Our girls were both given wristbands so they could receive free drinks and ice cream, worth noting if you are self catering.
The tropical did offer a full Christmas dinner on Christmas day (think it was around 35 Euros per person) but the resort was fully open so we opted to go out for our meal. No bookings were needed and we found absolutely no problem finding somewhere to eat, Christmas eve was more of an issue as a few restaurants were closed from the afternoon onwards but again there were still enough open to cater for the holiday makers.

We would recommend renting the back gate pass as it does cut your walking time to the centre of Playa Blanca. We also paid for the TV but unfortunately the transmission cut off for a couple of days, the staff were very good though and sent maintenance over immediately to fix, then gave a refund for our whole holiday period when it proved un-fixable.
Playa Blanca is a beautiful resort, the weather was perfect whilst we were there with average temp at around 68-70 f, plenty of restaurants by the harbour, a word of warning though, the catamaran comes in and goes out quite close and we did see a great many people get soaked (when the tide was in) with the waves crashing against the sea wall and unfortunately people who were on the small beach had belongings taken into the sea when the waves washed over (parents with small children should take extra care as the waves do come in without warning and were knocking the little ones off their feet).
The marina was quite a trek and although very pretty and upmarket there was not really much to do. We hired a car for a day and visited the volcano, did a camel ride and visited El Golfo, Los Hervideros and Puerto Del Carmen.
The volcano in the Timanfaya national park is well worth a visit, a guided tour by coach is included in the entry fee, and there are some wonderful views of the island.
The camel ride was an experience. El Golfo is very pretty and the complete opposite to Playa Blanca with cliffs and waves to surf on. Los Hervideros is well worth a visit, the sea comes in at all angles underneath you and there are natural holes in the cliff where you can look down at the waves hitting.
We were a little disappointed with Puerto Del Carmen but only in the fact it was very commercialised and a little grubby.

We stayed here with our two children,...

Jan 2008, Mrs S Kearney

We stayed here with our two children, aged 7 and 4, and they enjoyed it so much. The Reps are great, make huge efforts to entertain. We ate out every night, and had to race back for the nightly entertainment after 9 - it was good.
My main gripe with this place are the pools. FREEZING! No sunbeds as they are booked via towels by selfish people who don’t even use them half the day. There is a sign there to say that management shall remove said towels, but sadly they didn't. This is most frustrating and I wish people would think of others when they do this. Again, I repeat, FREEZING, so would not return here for that reason alone.
Also, the town is a good walk away, so it’s a bit isolated. Get the key to the back gate, refundable deposit on it so it’s well worth it.
Good TV stations, we watched Padraig Harrington win the Open in our apartment, definitely a plus point!

Recently back from 2weeks All...
7 / 10
Dec 2007, Miss S Paprotny

Recently back from 2weeks All Inclusive at the Sun Tropical Holiday Village in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
On arrival staff at reception were nice and helpful.
Apartment was very nice and clean, we also had kitchenette facilities ; fridge, toaster, hob, kettle. Apartments were cleaned 6 days a week, towels changed 3 times and bed linen twice. Our cleaner, Anna was very nice. She always left the whole apartment spotless.
We had a swimming pool and a paddling pool right outside the apartment, only thing was they were far too cold to swim in. There is a paddling pool at the end of the street on the way to the dome which is warm so I would recommend that you take your little ones there.
The complex is very nice and well kept.
All the staff were very polite and friendly in the restaurants and bars.
While we were there they were putting up all the Christmas decorations which seemed a little strange as it didn’t feel like Christmas with it being so warm compared to back home. It was very nice as they made a big effort.
I wasn’t impressed by the food. (We have been to the holiday village in Turkey and the food there was excellent.) The choice at breakfast was good, however the choice at lunch and dinner was not. There was usually 4 choices which were mainly beef or pork with veg and some kind of potatoes. I wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians, unless you were happy eating lettuce and salad all the time. The children’s choices weren’t any better as they were usually fried (chicken nuggets fish fingers etc..) and it was usually being accompanied by chips! The pasta wasn’t that great, probably due to it drying out by not being served immediately however the lasagne was very nice.
The food wasn’t horrible it was more due to lack of choice and it being repetitive, pork chops with apple sauce was served 4 times and chilli con carne was served 3 times within the 2 weeks which we stayed for. We did complain and we saw an improvement straight away which I was very impressed with.
The entertainment was fantastic. Our son had a great time. The entertainment team were excellent they put a lot of hard work and effort into their shows. My partner ended up doing one of their head to head challenges where he had to compete with one of the team. It was great fun and worth taking part. He ended up being known by everyone as "pickle" throughout the holiday. They also bring in entertainment which was great. We saw 2 different acrobat shows during out holiday and they were brilliant the other acts were great too.
We purchased a back gate key, you pay 10 euro deposit which you get back when you return the key. We walked down to the beach several times its only about 10 - 15 mins away and its very nice down there. Plenty of shops and bars, not as many as in a main resort but enough for browsing.
Overall our holiday was really good and we would go back, however we would not go all inclusive again as it wasn’t worth the extra money.

Dec 2007, Mrs K Clelland

Just back from a week away in this resort. We had a wonderful time.
The apartments are well looked after, really clean and cleaned regularly. The surrounding grounds are well maintained too.
The staff are really friendly and exceptionally helpful too.
The only thing I could possibly comment on was how slippery it was around the pool, but I believe this is typical of Spain.
We had a wonderful week and I would definitely go back. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone with a young family.
