" best holiday ever "

This holiday was absolutely fantastic it was a family holiday and our party included grandad who is 60 and ashby who is only 3 along with mummy daddy and auntie and all had a great time i honestly cant fault the resort at all.
The reps were great the helped out with anything that was needed there was never any problems or any excuses all inquiries we made were dealt with promptly and politely we booked excursions with the first choice reps and they were value for money definately. The best thing about the reps was that they didnt forget faces they remember everybody and want to get involved with your holiday the kids club was fantastic it was lovely to have a break and not worry about the little one at all.
The evening entertainment was cheesy but it was wicked everyone getting involved with the dancing and the entertainment staff were the best part of the holiday by far we loved it a good night out at the dome everynight.
We went self catering and it was rather expensive but the food on resort was ok and the breakfast in the chicken shack was the best breakfast going better that england lol
All the bad reviews i have read are so funny i really dont know how anyone can fault the staff or the resort it was FANTASTIC.
Make sure if you go to lanzarote you go to rancho texas and on the yellow submarine both great excursions.
Our family holiday was amazing and we only just got back and i am already looking for next years holiday at the sun tropical.

Advice: The town was lovely and lots of shops and bars and restaurants the beach beautiful

Activities: Rancho texas fantastic night out

Good for: Beach

" the true review hotel only "

we went to the sun tropical in a group of ten, he are the truths no complaining that there are to many Spanish or i hurt my toe on the bed hotel only.
first impression was that the hotel is massive which it is. it's nicely laid out safe for the kids to wonder about safely. the rooms are well equipped and spacious but a little cold. the pools were cold but hey it was February the pools were a great size and plenty of them. main pool area was clean and tidy well spaced out so U weren't on top of each other which was good the entertainment staff where great for the kids but not really much for adults, they did do volley ball and french bowls which was ok. if you are going on a allinclusive package then it is a cheaper option, the drinks are expensive a pint of beer was 3.50 euros. food was not bad not much choice but good, the breakfast was the best ive had for a long time. but on the allinclusive u can used the pizza place and the tapas restrant 1's each a week which was really nice and the staff were really friendly. the dome were the main entertainment was held was really cold my kids called it a igloo so this time of year U will need a jacket the room it self was large but had bad echo which there are trying to sort out but was still great. the tavern bar is good but you can smoke in there which is a bit of a pain for none smokers but it has a dart board to pass time which i did most nights when not down the dome. if you are looking to go into town the get a back gate key it is a fair walk around 15mins steady pace we used taxis. they work out about 3 euros thats with a tip. i would recommend the volcanos it was fantastic experience we got a taxi which took us there and waited for use and brought us back.we was out for around 2 hours and cost 45euros which was cheaper than the reps trip. all in all i would recommend this hotel it was very friendly and safe for the loved ones.
if you are selfcatering the a allinclusive upgrade costs 24euros aday for adults the children get free drinks crisps and icecream even if you are self catering which was great so only the adults need the upgrade

" It was ok.... "

Myself, Husband and 7 month old son visited Sun Tropical in January. Having been to other Holiday Villages felt this one was let down by the food and the general appearance of apartments. As per other reviews, the apartments are very run down and dated although ours was kept very clean by the maid. We had a room in Kiwi block which was a great location and had its own pool and was right beside the baby pool. Food in the buffet restaurant had a poor selection with very basic choices, not sure if it improves when it is peak season? Breakfast was the same every day and there was no fresh omelette station (which they do have at other Holiday Villages!) Spanish restaurant was lovely and the chicken shack was ok. We ate out twice, had a chinese in Jumbo's which was fantastic - would really recommend it! Also ate out in an Italian in Marina Rubicon called Little Italy, was expensive but extremely good food. Husband commented that the fillet steak was the best he has ever tasted!!
Shop on site was cheaper for essentials than many supermarkets in Playa Blanca so got water etc from there.
I felt our little boy was too young to be in the creche on his own, but they did "stay and play" sessions for free which was fab, it gave him a chance to play but at least I was there with him. The creche staff were fantastic.
The other point is when the weather is raining (which it was for about 3 days) there is not much to do round the complex, they didnt have any day time programme going on in the dome (not that I am aware of anyway!)
Overall a good holiday, just a shame about the food and slightly dated apartments.. x

Advice: Very expensive for eating and drinking. Lovely resort.

Activities: Favourite restaurants: Jumbo's and Little Italy

Good for: Beach

" Wonderful holiday I WANT TO GO BACK "

Just returned from our stay at the Sun Tropical and what a wonderful holiday it was. I travelled with my son and daughter-in-law and my 12year old grandaughter. The staff were very helpful the maids kept our room spotlessly clean, We decided on arrival to upgrade to all inclusive definitly the best thing! The food was very fresh well cooked and prepared and more than enough for everyone to find something nice they liked. (and believe me my son is more than fussy). The italian restaurant was fantastic. The pools were spotless and well kept as were the gardens. You did have to give a deposit for the back gate pass but a small price to pay for the security and the deposit was returned! The entertainment was first class up until the last 3 days when the new team took over but hopefully that will be sorted very soon. We will be going back to the Sun Tropical again there is no doubt about that!

Advice: Lovely to stroll around and a visit to the Rubacon Marina is a must

Activities: Plenty to do for such a quiet resort, a trip to Furtaventura on the glass bottom boats is lovely

" our dirty holiday "

after just getting back from sun tropical playa blanca, we are far from happy! this was our second time at the resort with our 2 children as we went in 2006 and found it very enjoyable all round....not this time im afraid! on arrival the room we checked into was damp and wet and the beds were not to be laid in by far,the floors were filthy and we had a colony of ANTS all around leading from which we discovered was a hole in the bed mattresses and a lovely home for their nest! the room got fumagated and the beds were changed along with the body hair which was still in the bath...not ours i have to say! the football pitch was closed so our boys were very dissapointed as all boys would be,because it had to be supervised( once a week if you are lucky!)be prepared to pay for the tv(this is not stated as payable in the brochure!) the price is 3euros a day but if you have children there is no other choice but to pay it as playa blanca does have its rainy days during winter. the food in the restaurant wasnt that bad not much to complain about here but be prepared for the same 4 desserts every night!!!BE WARNED the cats that come in the restaurant will SPRAY your chair or your leg! lovely whilst eating the only thing worth praising about in the sun tropical..sorry to all about to set off to this lovely island which it is and playa blanca is very tranquil in its settings but if i were you i would change your hotel if possible! if not i suggest you pay ( yes pay!) for a back gate pass and go venture into the town were im sure your entertainment will be a lot better than down at the DOME( hotels night venue)!GOOD LUCK AND MAY THE FORCE WITH YOU!!!!!!

Advice: very beautiful place and very clean

Activities: lots of trips look out for the texas ranch park! BRILLIANT. be careful of the prices on the seafront

" Good Family Holiday "

Just returned from 2 weeks myself,partner and 2 children aged 2 & 3.
What a fantastic holiday, definately the place to go if you have children aged 0 - 16.
The complex is excellent (although could do with a little tlc i.e a lick of paint). The first choice staff, entertainment team, and the in2action team are all excellent. Yes the entertainment can be a bit cheesy, but if the kids are happy then so am I.
The maid service is excellent, the only day they did not come was a sunday, but hey don't everyone need a day off. The apartment was always left spotless.
The food in the buffet restaurant was not gourmet, but was certainly edible. We always found something to temp us. We tried both the spanish and italian and found the spanish to be the best.
The weather was mixed but it was warmer than england so that has to be a bonus.
Would not advise going self catering as it seemed quite pricey to eat and drink out.
A pint of the local larger, Tropical, was 3.50euros in the hotel.
The complex is well situated from the main resort of playa blanca, was about a 10 minute walk.Definately invest in the back gate key. The beach is lovely.
Will definately be returning.

" good value "

Just got back from two weeks in the sun. This is the second time we have been to the sun tropical and will probably go back again!!Place was a little dated but comfortable and exceptionally clean.Maid service six times a week and the only time we were not cleaned was on Sunday when the whole place seemed to leave and refill.Had an excellent sunny apartment tho some of the ground floor apartments didnt seem to get much sun at this time of year.We were self-catering and ate several times in the chicken restaurant-limited menu but good value approx.20 euros for two meals and two large beers.Went into Playa Blanca a few nights.plenty of restaurents to choose from but would reccommend jumbos chinese restaurant for a chinese banquet which is 12 euros a head and plenty of food.taxi fare back to sun tropical is just under 3 euros.the holiday was good value for what we paid

Advice: lovely sheltered bay with excellent places to eat

Activities: jumbos,catalanas

" Fantastic "

If you have children this is the place to go. The holiday was fantastic from start to finish. The staff are wonderful and very attentive.
Food was good, rooms and complex were very clean and tidy - grounds were well maintained
If you don't have kids this is not the place for you
If you aren't all inclusive this wouldn't be the best resort as it is a good walk to the town. but we upgraded for a very good price

" Brilliant holiday "

Just returned from an amazing 2 week holiday to Sun Tropical. Me, my husband and 2 kids (1 and 2yrs). Wouldnt go in Nov again as windy and some days cold.
Rooms are cleaned 5 times a week, not on 2 change over days. The maids leave the rooms spotless. If you can ask for Kiwi apartments as we had a big pool outside our room, plus a baby pool at the side (which was heated).
We went All-Inclusive, which is a must as drinks and food really expensive in hotel and in the resort. Food not brilliant but we got by and you cant really complain. You can have 1 visit a week to Spanish and Italian restaurant. Italian was the best.
Entertainmet was brilliant. The Entertainment Team are lovely and all make a fuss of the kids. They entertain you in the day around the pool, from head to head showdowns then dancing over the pool bridge to the Evening from the kids time (8-9) the bingo then your evening show. Sometimes its a bit repetitive but they really try their best. Kids clubs are amazing for kids, unfortunately mine were too young, but we could visit creche every day for an hr and i could stay and play.Brilliant hol for families. Playa Blanca lovely but expensive if on a budget.

Advice: Lovely but expensive.

Activities: lanies Restaurants.

" Fabulous Holiday - Wish We Were Still There!!! "

Well - just back from a fantastic week at the Sun Tropical Apartments. We travelled as a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (6 and 2).
The rooms were comfortable but think that the cleaners need training as the floor was a bit dirty (felt like I had to wear my flip flops all the time!) and the towels in the bathroom need replacing as they were a bit worn and think they need to change from bright blue to white (look cleaner!) Suggest you take a paperclip with you incase a door gets shut in the room (we accidently locked our bedroom door and panicked, but reception just gave us a paperclip and it worked - you straighten the paperclip and push it straight in the hole in the door knob and it unlocks).
The communal areas were kept really clean, round the pools and in reception and the restaurants etc.
The facilities were excellent:
1) the supermarket on site was reasonably priced and stocked quite a good selection of food, drink etc.
2) Chicken Shack - never really used this as we found the food in the main restaurant was excellent
3) Kids snack bar - kids loved going and getting their drinks and ice creams all day (wouldn't recommend the crisps as they were full of E numbers and made the kids hyper!)
4) Poolside bar - good selection of drinks and staff were friendly
5) Pizza / Spanish Restaurant - again as the food in the main restaurant was nice we never really tried them but heard they were good
6) Kids clubs - our kids didn't want to join and as we'd gone on a family holiday we didn't push them as we wanted to spend time with them.
7) The Dome - this is where the night entertainment was. This was quite big but I wouldn't like to see this in the height of summer as they only had 2 toilets per gender (plus 2 disabled). Again the bar wasn't big enough for lots of thirsty customers. Be careful with little ones running round - a couple of accidents with bumped heads on marble steps....
8) Swimming pools - a bit too deep for kids and the kids pools were too small, it wasn't too bad for us as I'm a confident swimmer but if you're not you can't take your eyes off your kids for 2 seconds! They could seriously do with making 1 of the bigger pools a bit shallower (they've got plenty of them!) They're all 1.5m deep and freezing cold! Be careful round the pool and at the poolside toilets as the floor gets really slippy - there were a few bumped heads and bottoms while we were there!
The Entertainment in the hotel was really good, been to lots of hotels where they have had their own team of entertainers however this team beat them all hands down! We were pleasantly surprised at how good they all were, from doing the Kids Disco to singing and dancing - our kids loved it especially our 2 year old who wouldn't sit down all night! During the day they held pub quizzes round the pool and the kids clubs seemed to be on the go all day too!
The receptionists were really nice and friendly and spoke excellent English (10 out of 10 for service) and the staff in the restaurant were always friendly and polite too - made a nice change to miserable staff you sometimes get.
The location was ideal as it was close to both the main town and the Marina Rubicon (the posh end!). Well worth getting a back gate pass (only costs 10 Euros and you get your money back when you hand the pass back) as it takes at least 10 minutes off your walk into the town. There is a market behind the hotel on a Wednesday and Saturday, however the one on the same day at the Marina Rubicon is much nicer and you don't get hassle off the looky, looky men!
Playa Blanca is beautiful and laid back. Not like being in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife where you constantly get hassle from ticket touts and time share - this resort doesn't have any of that. You don't get hassle from bars and restaurants to go in and eat there either.
We hired a car for a day and travelled up to Timanfaya National Park - well worth a trip (not with tour operator excursions - rip off!) Cost us 23 Euros for the car and 16 Euros to get in which also included a bus trip round the park and the volcanos - this was fantastic and glad we did it! Driving is quite easy too and the roads aren't as bad as some people make out, if I managed it anybody can!
All in all we had a really great holiday and would recommend this accommodation for families and the all inclusive option is best! Just wish we were still there............ Enjoy!

" Everyone's different - judge for yourselves! "

Firstly, take any comments posted on this resort with a pinch of salt. Having read comments prior to my holiday, I was starting to dread going! Everyone has different views and different needs so I am giving my honest opinion. We travelled as a party of five - four adults and a child (7 year old).
Overall we had a great holiday but with a few minor improvements this could have been fab!
Firstly, in my opinion this hotel needs to be re-graded as I feel this is more like a 3* than 4* - not that it was that important but when advertised as 4* you expect it!
The rooms are adequate - good facilities if you're all inclusive - mainly the fridge to cool your drinks or the kettle for a cuppa first thing! The only negative we found here was cleanliness - they weren't cleaned that well and the towels were a little worn! I would recommend you take cotton wool or ear plugs as the air conditioning was rather noisey in our room and judging by the empty packet we found under the bed, the previous occupiers experienced it too.
The pools and poolside areas were great - no worries for finding a bed no matter what time of day we went there - always plenty of room around them and they were kept clean. Although, finding a bed that wasn't broken was sometimes difficult in the afternoon - which isn't a problem if you want to lie back and I suppose a broken bed is better than no bed!
The entertainment staff were fab - always so full of energy and always spoke - you couldn't ask for more. This was the same for the action team / reps - very polite and welcoming.
Definately buy the back gate pass - it's a refundable depost of €10 and well worth it. This is needed for the shops, beach and Marina. I would not recommend trying a short cut from the marina back to the hotel - follow the coastline.
If you are looking to exchange currency, when we went (came home 12th Oct) the hotel offered 1.19 and charged a small fee but we found a shop that sold cigarettes and alcohol that also exchanged currency for the best rate we found. This was on the opposite side of the road to the beach half way down the road before entering the pedestrian zone - If I remember correctly, it was the first exchange sign we saw on the shops as you walk down the town. Beware though - I would strongly advise you check on your phone what the exact amount totals as both myself and my parents were given incorrect amounts - both approx. €10 short! If in doubt, change £100 a time - it's easier to work out! We exchanged at a rate of €1.27.
The supermarket at the hotel was fairly priced - in fact some items were cheaper here that in the main supermarkets - so for beers, water, crisps etc we purchased here.
The all inclusive was a good option for us as we found it quite expensive to eat/drink here - certainly not the 'tax free' island we remember from a couple of years ago! We have always booked Sol hotels and I found the food standards here not as good as sol - nothing to complain about but not as much choice available if you've expereinced an all inclusive in the past. It's good for people who like to try different things but for people who like plain food, there isn't the option of chips/jacket/boiled potatoes everynight.
I would recommend booking the Spanish restaurant - if you plan to book both this and the Italian - book this later as it was excellent. The Italian was good - nothing negative but nothing too positive either - worth a visit but save the Spanish til last.
In the brochure there states there's a poolside snack bar but when we arrived we found that this wasn't the case. The poolside bar is for drinks only. If ordering tea please state white if you require milk as when we asked for just tea we experienced a little 'attitude' from one member of staff for asking for milk to add! Which was pitty as the other staff were all fab! The snack bar is the chicken shack. There's a menu on the bar which highlights options included in the all inclusive which consists of pizza, burger, hotdog and cheese/ham toastie.
Beware for those people who can't swim or young children. All the pools (except the baby pool) are 1.5m + which was a shame for my seven year old daughter. She was too big for the baby pool yet too small for the other pools. She and my mum were unable to stand in the big pool as they were too deep. This meant that she had to wear armbands which spoiled the fact we were planning on strengthening her swimming.
We wanted perfumes and assumed they would be cheaper on the island than in the airport. We found they were actually cheaper in the UK airport than arrecife airport or Lanzarote.
Take care on the beach as there's quite a sudden drop - you dont need to go out far to be out of your depths!
I think I've commented on everything now so if you are going, have a fab time. We had a good time and like most places there's always areas for improvement - if you're used to Sol standards or other 4* standards you may be a little disappointed in a few areas but I feel the resort and staff make up for it.

" just got back from sun tropical and... "

just got back from sun tropical and missing it already, this place is fantastic if you have children i have 3 girls aged between 1 and 6 years old.
me and my partner have been away 3 times this year and it has been hard work with the little ones however going to suntropical was so relaxing and fun for us all that we hardly noticed they were there because they were entertained. rooms were very clean and very comfortable and you felt that you could spend the day in there as you have a large balcony and rooms are spacious, there's alot on site so you don't have to go out if you prefer not to, we went self catering and due to spending aprox 180 euro's in the first day we decided to upgrade to all inclusive this cost 24 euro per adult per day and 12 euro per child over 2 years, we saved alot of money doing this and even came home with alot of our spending money due to this , well worth it!!!!!
the only complaint i would have is that there is only 1 barman working in the dome therefore you may have to que for your drinks but to be honest the que went down pretty quickly and also i feel that first choice could maybe's change the entertainment a little to involve the crowd more instead of the entertainers competing against each other you get the impression its for health and safety reasons that they do this. all in all a fantastic holiday and would definetly consider going back.

" Expensive but good value for money. 1... "

Expensive but good value for money. 1 main swimming pool plus 2 smaller and jacuzzi. Just the right depth for good adult swimming and kids safety. Well supervised swimming areas. Water crystal clear. Excellent Kids Club with high standard of fun and education. Food in main restaurant within complex poor. I would have been disappointed if I had gone all inclusive. Sympathetic tour rep said "think yourself lucky - we poor reps have to eat here all season. They'll be a strike if the food doesn't improve." Restaurant staff generally helpful and friendly. The restaurants within the mini-market area limited but good. The reps were of universally high standard. They actually knew something useful about Lanzarote. Intelligent, interested with useful, helpful and accurate information; a world away from the usual boneheads you see on telly getting bladdered. Clean well appointed apartments with comfortable beds. Very quiet at night. Complex intelligently designed with adult nightly entertainments well away from bedroom areas. Acoustic properties inside the Dome were very poor. Good taxi service to and from from complex to resort though taxi drivers very taciturn and tourist weary (and who can blame them?). The whole complex is surrounded by unobtrusive but serious steel walls and gates. No traffic was allowed into the complex during the day. There was a good feeling of child safety. People seemed to be having fun without any evidence of lager fuelled yobbery.
