Best Western Tim Opera St Lazare

We booked this hotel because of its location - within a few minutes' walk, you will see the Opera, bustling bakeries, and little bistros! The service was standard - professional, perfunctory, and efficient. The room was again adequate, with a comfortable mattress, clean sheets, and a decent washroom. I think the location is great for the price. Easy to get to tour bus line, underground station, department stores! Everything was very clean except the shower needed some scrubbing. Great stay!

In line with previous reviews I thought the rooms were small, security poor (although I had no probs) location good (Europe Metro 2 mins; Villiers 5; St Lazare 8). No difficulty with staff who spoke enough English to understand me. Never tried breakfast so can't comment, just went to a cafe down the street. Although the room was a little on the small size it was of a high standard. I got air conditioning anyway, without paying a supplement - a bonus. I had breakfast in my room on both mornings (I was on my own) - the breakfast was perfectly adaquate - plenty of coffee and they even gave me the extra butter I had asked for. This hotel is rated 3 stars, and it should be 2 at best. There is no one behind reception, so the security is minimal as the door is more often than not simply left open for anyone to wander into off the street. The service is dismal at best (it took an hour for them to deliver the extra towel & pillow I requested), the room was so small I nearly tripped over the bed when I entered the room, and the shower was approx 2 feet x 2 feet - not even large enough to turn around in without hitting something. First thing I wanted to do was video my attic room and its view of a picturesque cobbled street. Great value and I slept well. Close to metro but was awkward to find my way back on foot at night. I will probably choose to stay there again next time.

Although the hotel rooms were cozy (our top floor room had balcony) we absolutely loved the location we were in and I would definately use this hotel again. Nearest metros Europe and Villiers. Nice shops and bistros close to hotel. Staff very welcoming and helpful and the rooms and hotel were kept very clean. Please read this review and if you are planning a trip to Paris I would highly recommend this hotel.

Despite this is a Best Western hotel, I found the service rather disappointing and well below the standards of this group. The room was VERY small, as well as the bed (take into account that my partner and I aren't really tall...). We had booked the Timhotel Saint Georges (Pigalle) for the rugby on 20 Nov 04. We were moved on arrival to the Best Western Opera Saint Lazare as someone had damaged our room and the hotel was fully booked. They offered to pay for a taxi and said that the rate would remain the same - no prompting needed from us. The room WAS small and simply furnished but everything was clean and the staff were polite.

Location: 1 block (5 minute walk) from Metro station Europe and 3 blocks (15 minute walk) from Train Station St-Lazare. There is a supermarket next door and about 5 small cafes/bistros around it. The airport shuttle drops you off at Opera, which is a 30 minute of uphill walk... not easy if you have luggages. Lobby: recently renovated, modern looking Rooms: very small, no place to walk once the luggage is in. There is tiny shower booth. Most rooms booked online or directly are standard, meaning basic rooms with no air conditioning.... more
