my self & my husband found the Samaria hotel 5 years ago. we have been back every year from our first visit, the hotel staff are very nice people but the bar staff are very
pushy if you don't stay for a drink they remember and make you feel uncomfortable we had one of there apartment's last year it was great because we had the use of both pools and in the apartment's there was no staff nagging at you. the hotel has had a few changes from our first time there but most of the staff are still the same, but the bar staff do change do every year we came back in october after I'd had an operation for some much needed rest and got it, its nice to go back year after and be remembered by the hotel staff i hope for all the right reasons....

Samira Hotel is the best Hotel in the world trust me!!! The moment we touched down at Dalaman Airport I got shivers down my spine and butterflys in my stomach. The feeling of being at the other side of the continent in a beautifull country with such diverse culture and rich heritage made a change from old boring spain. The transfer from Dalaman took roughly 2 hours and included a change from a coach at Fethiye to a privite taxi for the remaining duration. Ariving at the Samira we were greeted by Gooney and Life, 2 wkd lads who at first i though were to over friendly and false but turned out to be really nice people. Such a laugh and nothing is to much trouble for them, the staff is what makes this hotel. After catching a few hours sleep in our aparment (which is spot on) we walked down to the harbour and enjoyed the nicest ice cream ever in one of the many restraunts. The heat at first was unbarable, but i loved it by the end of my 7 day holiday.
I recomend Patara beach (however the toilets are rotten). The beach is beautifull. I had a bash at the Jet Skiing at one of the beach clubs which is a 2 minuet boat ride from the harbour. The Blue Voyage was the highlight of my holiday, was total paradise i will never forget the feeling of swiming in the turqouise waters of the sunken city kekova. The entertainment at the Hotel is great, its very relaxed and comfertable, the roof top restraunt is a must do. Their is a few cats around the hotel, its a family run business and after all they are part of the family. The cats were clean and they often wandered the corridoors, just adds to the whole turkish culture which is still extremely prevelant in Kalkan. I always vowed to return to Samira (and i will), but this year we're heading for Olu Deniz, i want to explore the whole country as im sure their is much more to offer out their. We all had a tear in our eye as we departed Samira, our fairwell from the staff was very emotional, we made some good friends their and it was a strange feeling to leave paradise back to Newcastle Upon Tyne. I seriously recomend this hotel to anyone its a gaurantee it will be the best holiday of your life ... i promise! (PS: No im not on commision for this review haha)

The Samira Hotel is a lovely hotel, rooms are cleaned daily by the very nice & friendly cleaners, other staff are friendly too, brilliant location, 1 minute walk to town centre, pool area is very nice too, nice soft comfortable sun loungers.
The only bad point about the Samira Hotel is that the bar staff hassle far too much for you to stay at the bar & have a drink, if you spend lots of money at the bar then the staff are very friendly, if you don't spend any money than they are not as friendly, this is the only thing that spoilt the holiday.
Kalkan its self is probably one of the best resorts in Turkey that I have ever been to, it is not yet affected by mass tourism which is a good thing, and there are no English bars or restaurants, thank god.
Kalkan is a small pretty village with lots of extremely good restaurants serving traditional Turkish cuisine, there are also some music bars, there is also a small stony beach, sea is very clean, Patara beach (once voted the best beach in Europe) is a 20 minute bus journey away, there are lots to do & sea in & around Kalkan.
One bad point about Kalkan is there are too many stray cats & dogs, the number is growing year after year & this is due to the fact that the English tourists are feeding them, I personally do not like cats & dogs sitting round me while I'm eating!

Only three weeks to go and we will be back at the Samira Hotel. I keep thinking that we should try somewhere different but how can I when we get the experience that matters at Samira. Moomin, Jack and Ergon are the greatest. The owner Mustafa and dad Mr. Hussain are truly professionals. They make you feel so special all the time. They hate to think that a customer is upset in the slightest way. The pool is lush. This will be our seventh time of going and cannot fault it. Ergon always tries hard to get us a nice room overlooking the sea. What with this and the gorgous pool what else do I want. My husband is worse than me for it and is so excited. If in two minds of visiting Kalkan and you want the best experience then you must go and stay at the Samira Hotel (not to be mistaken with the Samira Deluxe) Jacky and Gary from Plymouth
