Terrible Service
from GenieLondon
Hotel Munamar Icmeler, Turkey July 2008 - We have been travelling to Icmeler for the last 12 years and always praised the hotels we stayed at this year we decided to go 5 star - big mistake. The Munamar was one of the most unfriendly, unhelpful hotels we have ever encountered in Turkey. We booked and paid for a sea view room and were given a room with a tiny window that you could just about view the sea the balcony was on the road side and very noisy after strong words we were grudgingly given a balcony sea view. The room was adequate but the cleaning service was very lax, food was adequate but very manic in the dining area. The worst service was in the bar, the staff obviously did not like English people one barman in particular was extremely obnoxious pretending he didn't know you were waiting and then proceding to serve whoever he deemed worthy particularly the Turkish visitors who were in the majority. On the last day the weather was extremely hot and we had requested to keep our room until 4.00pm at a cost after telling us to come back later on the day we were leaving they told us the hotel was full and we had to vacate our room and there were no facilities for showering and changing for people with late flights for a 5 star hotel this is deplorable. Our friends had a suite and halfway through the holiday were asked to vacate and go into a smaller room as they had a family arriving - why was this not thought of at the time of booking. We spoke to a few English couples who agreed with all of our points and were determined never to go there again. So, unless you are Turkish, German or Dutch do not go to the Munamar they don't like us at all!.
Sun, Sea and Food.

Just got back yesterday and please will someone transport me back! Third time that I've been to Turkey and must say loved Icmeler, not for youngsters who want a lively holiday clubbing, loud music etc but perfect for older people and families with young children. Don;t need to walk too far to get to restaurants, beach or shops. And Marmaris the main resort takes about 15mins by the local bus which is really cheap. The hotel Munamar is not 5 star by British standards but for Turkey its good, there were quite alot of Turkish families with children staying at the hotel so that to me was a good sign. Only thing i didn;t really like were the bedrooms - really basic but clean and the balacony - too small for 5 star. The rest of the hotel was excellent, really friendly staff, lovely food and hotel is kept very clean. The decking area overlooking the promanede and beach is a lovely place to relax and watch people go by and sip a drink. The hotel has its own private part of the beach which is on the hotels doorstep. The pool area is clean. I would definetly go back and stay at this hotel again.
Great place, lovely location

My wife and I stayed at the Munamar for a week all inclusive with a sea view. The Hotel is in a great position and of a good qallity. Well worth booking a sea view as the other rooms either over look the Pool or nothing. It has it's own beach with sun beds but you have to pay if you want a cover for the bed 4lira a bed. The food was excellant, nice place for a rest but if you want a bit of life there are some good local bars or you can take trip into Marmaris
Mixed feelings

We being myself, my partner and our young son recently stayed at the Munamar. What we all must be realistic ablout is not expecting a five star hotel, we are talking Turkey here! Overall the hotel I would describe as a three star. The rooms are comfortable, although, we did have a few problems with ants in the bathroom and the hotel was very slow to deal with this issue. Although in the details it describes having satelite tv, be prepared for just 3 English speaking channels. Food was bland but edible. I would highly recommend the soups, these were particularly good. Stay clear of the juices and coffee!! The staff apart from the reception staff were excellent. They are very friendly and they adore children. The reception staff were rude and unhelpful. We were a little uncomfortable about the onsite photographers who are quite pushy with their services. The pool is unheated. The depth of the main pool is too deep for children and the little pool was only 42 cm deep. If you are a keen swimmer I would not recommend this hotel. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel that takes you to Marmaris. It is worth a trip to grab a few bargains. Icmeler is a fantastic resort. The people are friendly, the coastline is outstanding and I would highly recommend it as a holiday destination. I would certainly return to Icmeler, but I would doubt very much that I would stay at the Munamar again.
BEST HOLIDAY EVER ! ! !

We have never been to Turkey before and have always visited Spain, but this year decided to try something new. We were a little hesitant at first after hearing mixed reports of Turkey, but we thought we would make our own minds up and book a family holiday there for a week. The flight was just under 4 hours and the transfer from airport to Icmeler was only one and a half hours, so not too much of a slog. Upon arriving at the Munamar, our first impressions were better than expected, with the hotel being perfectly situated right on the beachfront with amazing views. The reception area of the hotel was very modern and grand all done in marble. our room was of a very high standard with sky TV, shower, bath, toilet and fantastic views accros the town. (Seaview optional upgrade, well worth the extra 9YTL per day). The rooms were spotless, and modern with full air con. We stayed All Inclusive. The food was well worthy of its 5* rating. Equal to any UK 4+* rated hotel. The choice of food was unbelivable with endless different dishes and choices. All waiting staff were of a very high standard. The pool arae was clean and afe for small children with a baby pool and larger swimming pool. Pool area also has a bar that offers soft drinks, juices, and alcoholic drinks up to 6pm. The Entertainment team were very professional and went out of their way to make the holiday fun. Hakan expecially. He and Mehmet the photography made our holiday extra special, Could have sat chatting for hours about the Turkish culture, family life, football (see you soon guys) All in all probably the best holiday we have evr had, Will definatly be going back and would highly recomend to anyone with a small family.
Nice hotel

We were here in 2004 and had a great time! This was actually before the hotel became a 'Joy'. Nice rooms, good restaurants and friendly staff. It is the last hotel at the Icmeler boulevard which makes it a bit cosy. The private beach is 2 steps away from the hotel terrace. We did enjoy the entertainment team at the pool bar. I'm surprised by the low rating here, but as said: it's almost 4 years ago we were there.
Not THAT bad!
from MangoToes
I think the most recent reviewer must have come at a bad time, or they're hard to please! I've just stayed at the joy Munamar, and had a good time! Fair enough, it probably ISN'T 5 star, but it's certainly a good quality hotel. The decor may not be to everyone's tastes, but it's far from outdated! (just maybe a little too retro trendy for the previous reviewer?). The room we had overlooked the beach, and was spacious, immaculately kept and very quiet. No bathroom problems at all! I will concede that the lack of restaurant choice does make dinner times a little frustrating if you dont get there early, however we found the hotel staff eager to please and on the one night we didnt get a table straight away, they went and found us another one from storage and put it out for us. The biggest downer I would say is the Hotel Pool. It's tucked away at the back, with no view and is completely surrounded by concrete, no landscaping at all. It's a suntrap during the day, and is generally not much fun to hang out by. The beach is fine, although the water can get a little cloudy if it's windy. If you're looking for 5* luxury, this probably isnt the hotel for you, try one of the ones further along the Icmeler peninsula. But as a mid range all-inclusive hotel, this one isnt bad!
Great location and resort, shame about the hotel!

Icmeler is great, but the hotel was a dump!! 5 star? Maybe when it opened 10 years ago but to describe it as 3 star now is being generous. The hotel is outdated, the decor is poor, the bathroom was damp and dark and we had problems with the plumbing. We also had water dripping out of the light fitting in the bathroom on 2 occasions, and they eventually had to replace the ceiling due to the damp. We then had to endure paint fumes as they painted the new ceiling. We asked for a room change 4 times, but were told they couldn't accomodate this as the hotel was full. Don't bother going to this hotel as an all inclusive, the food is poor and the service is too. We have stayed in all inclusive hotels all over the world, and previously in Turkey also, and this was by far the worst we have stayed in. We gave up queuing for a table in the evenings after being told to come back one night in 45 mins!! There is only 1 restaurant and this is a buffet restaurant. We ate out every evening after that, at extra expense. They even section parts of the already overly busy restaurant off to accomodate "special guests". We didn't fall into that category. The only positive thing to say about this place is the location, however, don't be fooled by the promise of a "private beach", it isn't. As a hotel resident you had a free sunbed, but had to pay 2.5 lira for a mattress, yet the general public could have the same facilities on the beach for the same price. You didn't feel safe leaving your belongings. There is no beach bar, and you had to go into the hotel lobby bar to get drinks, which was a pain. We paid £800 each for 2 weeks, and it was not worth this. On top of this we had the expense of eating out most evenings.
Munamar - All Inclusive
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Munamar has obviously been taken over now by the Joy Hotel group and now has balconies on most rooms which are a good size. The accommodation and standard of cleanliness and decor and facilities were excellent and worthy of its' 5* rating. It appears to have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The hotels location - right on the beach was an ideal feature. On a slightly less positive side the hotels' biggest negative point was the selection of the food available. Initially it appears impressive and looks superb but the choice is limited and after only a few days one started to go out for evening meals in search of some solid meat! (P.S. the Blue Fox restaurant and Majestic restaurant both served very nice meals) The hotel caters for a lot of German & Russian tourists and some of the staff are intimidated by the Germans manner and will always serve them first before your patiently waiting Brit! Maintenance was a little slow - 4 days for a screw in the balcony door - which if not closed properly shuts off the Air Conditioning. The childrens pool area was adequate but quite a high raised area and floor was very slippery - I saw at least 4 falls including myself! Overall a very nice hotel and excellent value for money but let down slightly not by the standard of food but by the variety of it. Although going through a period of change very little information is available with regard to hotel facilities and guest entitlements - a guide/booklet would have been handy. Staff appeared very keen to receive feedback on all areas of the hotel with a view to improvement in certain areas. I would certainly go back to this hotel but not on an all inclusive basis.
The Munamar is a lovely hotel, in a nice location on the beach in Icmeler. The rooms are furnished well, the food is good, but as in previous review, is spoilt by the eastern european guests who definitely do store food at their tables, lack dress code, are rude and... more
