We loved Andreotis but Protaras was boring!
from Skye1981
My mum, my sister and I choose to go away at the last minute in October last year for 2 weeks in Protatas. It was our first time to Cyprus. The good points were..... the weather was hot, the people were fairly friendly, the accomodation was spacious & clean, the pool was great. Aiya Napa was only a 10 - 15 minute bus journey away. The downside was that the resort of Protaras was getting ready to close down for the end of the season so alot of the shops and restaurants were closing early and there wasnt much happening at night time..... or during the day! The only advantage to this however was that you could get good discounts on excursions. As there wasnt much happening in Protaras we decided to bite the bullet and take the 2 night - 1day cruise over to Cairo from Limassol. This was definately the highlight of our holiday! We ate lunch as we cruised down the Nile, we went deep inside a pyramid (I wud not reccommend it if u dont like confined spaces!) and we saw the treasures of King Tut! - All in one day!! The quick trip to Cairo meant that everyone was made to keep to a very tight scedule to fit everything in so it did feel very rushed! - but it was worth it ! as it's not everyday you get to see one of the wonders of the world!! I will definately go back to Egypt! .....But not to Protaras (well not without having someone who can hire a car).
Everything you need close to hand!!

We have just returned from a weeks holdiay to the Andreotis Apartments and have enjoyed every minute. The apartments themselves are clean (we had maid service virtually every day and they were really friendly too) and yes if you want to be really really picky a little basic but for us they were fine. We tend to eat out alot so the only thing we used was the kettle and the fridge (which was really clean). The air conditioning only keeps the bedroom cool so our son (4yrs) ended up sleeping with us which again was no problem as he was not keen on sleeping on his own anyway. We stayed in Bungalow 2 Room 141 which was really nice, the only thing I would mention about this room is that the view of the pool is obstructed by the trees and bushes that surround the balcony. Again not a problem for us a we only really used the balcony for drying clothes. Would be more of a problem if you like to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by. We had no problems with noise at all. Tassos the owner is great, we only went in the Pool Bar twice and he remembered our names. Food was good from there and reasonably priced. I always found the reception staff to be very helpful and friendly. Protaras is lovely, so much so that we are going back next year, to the Andreotis if we can. There are lots of lovely bars and restaurants, yes, some of them are a bit gimmicky but there are plenty that offer lovely food in a nice setting. Try the Victorian Restaurant (up by the Sling Shot/MacDonalds) , we had two lovely meals there. Also both Chinese's are good although a little pricey. All the Bars and Restaurants are about a 5 minute walk from the Andreotis so it is in a great location and the beach is the same. There is lots for kids to do on an evening as well although it all tends to cost money. Fig Tree Bay Beach is small but perfectly formed, on the far right hand side of the beach as you look down on it from the land is a large rock pool area with very shallow water ideal for kids to play safely in, however if you want a sun bed and brolly on this part of the beach you need to be there by 9.30am. Also there is a charge of £1.25 Cypriot for each sunbed and brolly used per day. This is approximately about £4.40 Sterling depending upon exchange rates. The Blue Peter Beach Bar (just above Fig Tree Bay Beach) does good food. All in all we really liked Protaras, I would say it is more a family and couples resort which we liked. And I would choose it over Ayia Napa any day however, it depends on what you want from your holiday.
Lovely hotel
from jaymarsuperstar
Cant fault this hotel at all - my mate and I stayed there for a week over the bank holiday on a late deal. The staff were really friendly, we didn’t want for anything the entire holiday and if we did it was sorted quickly and without fuss. The hotel itself is perhaps a little basic but everything works fine but our room was cleaned 6 days out of 7 and we always had a plentiful supply of towels and bedding. The air con was £21 for the week which was good value as it was a modern, digital unit and remote controlled. The pool is lovely and again very clean - another reviewer said that the pool bar played music all day. Yes - this is the case however it plays different types of music and it was never difficult to doze off around the pool etc. The music added to the atmosphere rather than ruined it. The food and main bar area is great - pool tables, computer games and all the live footy you could want on 2 big screens. Plus Tasos and George who own the bar make everyone welcome and take the trouble to learn everyone's names - something I don’t think you'd see in a 5* hotel! All in all it surprises me that people have said some negative things about the hotel, its clean, friendly, 5 minutes from a stunning beach and great resort - plus a short taxi ride from the clubbing scene in Ayia Napa. What more could you want? Would definitely book again.
Basic and not sure it's value for money
from Lincsdumpling
Just returned from the Andreotis apartments and have to agree that whilst they are clean(ish) they are very basic and probably not that great considering it's quite expensive for an apartment compared to what you might get for the same money in, say, Spain. The air con is essential at 3 pounds a day, and it is confined to the main bedroom which is ok if there are only 2 occupants. The fridge in our apartment had a broken handle, the bedding was changed every few days, but was often marked and the towels were changed every 3 days, again they were often marked. Beds were not great in terms of comfort and the curtains were moth eaten. The wardrobes are basic, smell musty and would not even grace a travelodge here. The kitchen area does have a microwave and toaster, along with a kettle and two cooking rings, but no conventional oven. I agree that rooms overlooking the front onto the main road can be noisy so ask for one of the bungalows overlooking the pool. The pool was well maintained but during our stay there had been an outbreak of earache and one resident had to take his son to the pharmacy for treatment. Noticed after that many people in the pool wearing ear plugs. Might be worth bringing your own. The sunbed situation seems to be resolved - there were loads of new ones added when we were there, although you need to "book" them regardless of what it says about not reserving them! Everyone does and I never saw towels being removed during my stay even though they tell you this will happen. Again, the people who stay in the bungalows can steal a march here as you will see them monitoring the situation and booking early to avoid disappointment!!! The pool tended to get overloaded with lilos, swim rings - some people even had small dinghys - and they weren't all kids!!! Best time for a swim is in the morning or late evening. Many of the parents will not tell their little darlings off when you get run over by a lilo, whacked with a ball from the interminable games of "pool tennis" or have to fight your way through them to access the pool steps to escape! As we were finishing our holiday the newest craze to go with all the rest was snorkelling - loads of little and not so little kids swimming happily into anything in their path. There is a kids club but we didn't have small ones with us so I can't say if it was good or bad. There is computer access available at 50 cents for 10 minutes and this seemed to be well used. The Irish pub just across the way offers the same service at 50 cents for 15 minutes. If you are a non-smoker you may want to be choosy where you sit as the smokers were quite happy to light up all day by the pool side and share their noxious fumes and smug glances with you. The words "do you mind if I smoke?" were not ever uttered, so tough if you do! The poolside bar is very noisy and the music is on a continuous loop so it can get a bit monotonous. The staff, however, are friendly and the restaurant run by George and Tassos offers good value for money, although it is a bit "chips with everything". If you want on site entertainment, this is confined to footie on the wide screen telly, karaoke on a Tuesday and a Cypriot night every fortnight on a Friday (good food and ok for the price). Safety deposit boxes available at a cost. Sunset reps were around but not terribly forthcoming - it's find us rather than them find you until they want you to fill in a questionnaire saying they're great at the end of the holiday. We did not bother with any of the trips as they were expensive compared to what was being charged by independent operators in Proataras. The Andreotis was ok and some people were clearly return visitors or were planning a return next year so it must suit some more than others. For us, we would be looking for something of a higher standard in terms of accommodation next year.
Great holiday!

We stayed in the Andreotis Apts last July... there were 10 of us altogethor... me and my family (four of us) had the only 2 bed Apartment in the complex... very spacious with 2 balconies. Rooms were very clean... air conditioning was available at a supplement... I would advise that you take this out. Great location,... within a few mins from the "strip" where you find bars, restaurants shops etc... and obnly 500 metres to Fig Tree Bay. Food was nice when we ate there... you could even get a meal and take it upto your room if you wished... they just did it as a take away. We loved it... so much, infact, that we have booked again to go back next July.

Not quite what we expected. Cannot fault the cleanliness of this place but it is very basic. Facilities and amenities are just not adequate for the amount of people crammed into this complex - not enough sunbeds or parasols which are a must for high season hot weather. Pool bar plays noisy music all day. Apartments only have air conditioning in the bedroom which is charged at £3 per day. Rooms located at the front of the hotel are very noisy with street traffic all day and most of the night. On the plus side the food is excellent and a very short walk to the main centre with all its bars cafe's and shops. Will not be returning to the Andreotis.

Great apartments. Especially as we had a child in a wheelchair with us. This is our 3rd time coming to t apartments and have taken various people with us who all agree its great. Pool was great, and have no complaints with the apartments. Staff are very helpful and friendly. There is no entertainment for evenings except for the occasional greek night! There is plenty of entertainment elsewhere. 5mins from bars/restaurant and beach. Love boat, shennanigans and red indian all great places and food i shennanigan is great! Love boat has a regular elvis impersonator Eric Ray who is great even if your not an Elvis fan. This holiday is great for all. Will definetly go again.-x-
Cheap and cheeful
from craigs007
No frills accomodation. We was on the ground floor which was noisy at night because of screaming kids and drunken fools getting back from a night out. Too far from Ayia Napa (£10.00, in taxi) but close enough to all the bars in protares which is kind-a-like blackpool - you will see when you get there. ....... Go to ayia napa its miles better

Just got back from a family holiday at the Andreotis apartments. Complex was excellent, basic rooms, no bath just a shower, no oven but a microwave, proper kettles etc so everything you need but not much else. Large balcony, plenty of electric points. Room 106 ground floor, 10 yrds from pool, 10 yrds from supermarket, 20 yrds from bar / resteraunt. Pool was superb, very safe, very kids friendly, very clean. Plenty of spare room all around, plenty of beds. Good value food and refreshments from pool bar. Great value from main bar and resteraunt, ran extremely well by a superb host and very friendly Tasos. Better value in main bar than in main streets and service is much much better. No entertainment for kids on a night, no shows or discos etc so a really quiet and relaxed 'vibe' all through the week but lacks atmosphere on a night. Air Con is extra charge £3 per day.
freindly staff

this was our 1st time to cyprus.the staff here are really nice especially tasos from the restuarant,we only ate there twice but he remembered our names.the food there is the same standard as on the main street but the service is much friendlier! the apartment rooms are basic but clean.if your looking for a base then this is fine.they use the same plugs as uk.the rooms dont have an oven for anyone whos on a budget, but have a proper kettle.we had room 206 which we wouldnt recomend if you like spending time on your balcony! its over looked 4 ways, but is good for the sun.the pool area is clean with plenty of lougers.not too loud, good for familys.there didnt seen to be any evening entertainment, but there is a very lagre screen for the footy! the main street is only 5min walk away if that, and it doesnt bother the hotel with noise.we found the cost of eating and drinking everywere about the same as uk,its mainly catered for brits, has a pizzahut, mcd's ect if you like that on hols.we ate in niclouse tavern, had cypriot meze which was good.had a really bad mexican further up the street called "chichicos" or something. we hired a moped from the shop oppersite the apartments, saved alot of money seeing the island this way as thomas cook trips were expensive.you will get fined for speeding and not wereing your helmets as we did! there quite strickt at the airport for going over weight.for you scuba divers we used absolutescuba(ask for rich of mat) thease were 5 mins from the apartments and will pick you up and drop off.really nice people, fun and safe diving.we will be using them again.we found the currency exchange rate better over there, intead of the uk 0.75 it was up to 0.85 in most places! even though it rained for 5 days whist we were there(typical) we had a good hol,it was laid back on the main street with no one hasseling you to go in there place or scratchcard people! we would stay at the andreotis again.
I stayed at the andreotis in may 2011 , and must say i enhjoyed my stay , but didn't find it as fantastic as others on here . The room was nice and clean had everything you'd need and want . the food in the complex it's self was nice and varied tasty and reaosnably... more
