The hotel room was basic but it had everything you needed. On the news reports the rooms shown were all downstairs which needed refurbishment, though 1st floor upwards were very good.
The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and there were a lot of things to do in sunny beach: including clubbing, sunbathing, trying international cuisine, swimming and quad biking. Though there are all these activities it is easily possible to enjoy a quiet peaceful holiday strolling along the beach.
I highly recommend a restaurant across from the Krystal where you will find a very friendly waitress who you will easily become friends with.

Although the staff were friendly and the hotel spotless.
I have very strong concerns about the safety of kids games especially at night. We were there with my 3 yr old son and another couple who had a 20 month daughter, I found it quite stressful and bizarre that the kids disco would be right at the edge of the poolside at night, there was no safety railings and the ground extremely slippy, resulting in 2 children needing stitches to wounds after slipping, the reps were encouraging the kids to jump up and down but saying be very careful when doing so, so they obviously knew they had a problem!. Toddlers were running off (as toddlers do) and heading straight for the tempting water, it is only a matter of time before something serious happens.
I also found the kiddies mini disco to be a let down, the reps seemed to be quite exhausted and played a song then spoke for about 10 mins leaving the younger kids lost and bored(hence running off)Asking 3-4 yr old questions like how many boxes of shoes do I have at home and guess which one if us used to be in the air force !!!!Not the best entertainment for kids when all they wanted to do for an hour was to dance and maybe greeted by a friendly teddy bear or something.
I will not be returning, I also paid extra for a room upgrade but first choice had no record of this so no action could be taken! watch out.

We booked to travel with Balkan...

Jun 2005, Mrs B L Bycroft

We booked to travel with Balkan Holidays on an AOA basis. When we arrived it looked like we were in the middle of a shanty town area. the hotel (if I may call it that) is located in the area nearest the market, the streets have no lighting and no drainage, hence they are quite a health risk.
The hotel has two 24hrs bars directly outside the front and there is also a disco / all night bar approx 25m from the hotel. ( Bulgaria has a 24hr drinking law, so basically the bars never shut) The front of the hotel is overgrown and very dated. The steps leading to the reception area have a had a very crude ramp dug into them for wheelchair/pram access but you would need to be Arnie to push anything up them.
For what dealings we had with the hotel staff they seemed ok and had a basic understanding of English.
Inside the building the decor is dated and in desperate need of demolishing. As for the catering facilities - the dining area is not much bigger than your average lounge - it is located on the first floor, so if you do have access problems, everything will have to be brought down to you as there is no lift.
The food is dry and not very appetizing, there is not enough seating and what is available, you don’t really want to sit on it.
As for the rooms, well there’s basic, and there’s baron, these are the latter. They are dated, any damage has been painted over and not repaired, there are two single beds, a wardrobe and not a lot else. The en-suite is a health hazard, our shower flooded the first time we used it and the toilet only worked intermittently. any child using the shower could have scalded themselves as there was not proper mixer taps and if a child had turned the wrong tap off, they would have been hurt.
We spent two nights at this hotel and moved to another within the resort at our cost, and we were not the only people to move over 50% of those that arrived with us moved out. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Aug 2004, Mr R Bowie

The Kristal 2 is a dive, from the minute we set foot in the place.
There was a 2 inch gap on our balcony door, dampness on the wall of the room and to be honest I think even the numerous gypsies who swarmed around the hotel felt a little sorry for the guests actually in it. YES it is that bad.
No Pool, Breakfast is served on the landing between the 1st and 2nd floor. lots of noise at night and the ever feeling of safety was nowhere to be found as several of the rooms seemed to be robbed prior to our arrival.
I do feel sorry for you if this is your accommodation after all I was only looking for somewhere to put my head down at whatever time, but this place is filthy.
Much to my delight we got a transfer to another 2* Hotel in sunny beach with a cost of £280 for the two of us. I will tell you this, two star ARDA Hotel was like a five star to the Kristal 2. Well worth the money but it seems to me that the Balkan Holidays are making an absolute fortune from the tourists by putting them in to this hotel as they know they will want moved and will pay whatever to ensure they do. It Is a scam, but I wanted to enjoy my holiday which I did once I was out that place.

The Kristal Hotel, Bulgaria is a...

Aug 2004, Miss T Bolton

The Kristal Hotel, Bulgaria is a dumping ground as that is the only way they can fill it.
It has no facilities. No swimming pool and hasn’t had any improvements done to it for years. Everything about it is old and dated.
There is no chance of getting any sleep unless you are drunk as there is a 24 hour bar at the front and the hotel and the back is used by staff in the resort who come and go at all hours with music blaring out, cars revving up and shouting.
Gypsy children hang about begging at the back of the hotel and if you are on the ground floor there is the added worry of break in.
Some of the staff are friendly and the cleaners keep the rooms clean but once you are in this hotel it is hard to get out even if you pay an upgrade.
The only thing that keeps you going in the Kristal is the friendliness of the other English and Scottish guests as you are all in the same boat. It is a dive.
