Me and my wife plus her sister and hubby have just returned (11/09/2007 to 22/09/2007.
The two ladies who run it are great, helpful, friendly. Pool very clean, shop on site sells everything.
Apartments are basic but clean and tidy. Kitchen utensils basis, get use to no kettle or microwave and simple cooker, but with meals out very cheap, you won’t be doing any cooking.
Local area is lovely and locals very friendly. Beach from apt is approx 15 min walk, out of apt turn right straight across main road past Irish bar, take last turn on your right then left straight on to beach/umbrellas, sunbeds, plus sand, no facilities on beach, so take your own drinks plus snacks.
Gouves centre is 20 /25 walk out of apt turn right to bottom of road turn left and head for centre, by taxi 5 min 5 Euros, taxis usually located at bottom of road.
Irish bar (shamrock) 5 mins from apt, man and daughter very friendly, food good, sports screen as well. Rainbow bar, down to bottom of road turn left, walk 10 mins on right across main road, same as above.
If you would like to experience a real Cretan taverna with simple basic meals but lovely, visit the Efkaliptus taverna in old Gouves square, out of apt turn left, but easier by taxi about 5 Euros, the man and wife who run it are great, they will just fill you with raki all night, he speaks good English wife a little, if you want raki to take home ask him, cheaper than anywhere else, and it’s the real stuff.
For night life it’s got to be Gouves centre, harp bar/nicks paradise or our favourite the totem cocktail bar. Great area for a holiday, enjoy.
