Not fantastic but Not bad...
from Gridda
Hi there Just a short review on Kaissa - went there for a week at the end of July with my little sister. Arrived safely at the hotel - booked transfer on the internet with a2btransfers.com. we weren't greeted at arrivals like it said on the info we were given but had to go find their kiosk outside. We were provided with a nice mercedes taxi though and it only took 10mins to get to the apartment. We were greeted by the night porter who was pretty friendly but didn't offer to help us with our bags. Had to struggle up 2 flights of stairs in the dark. Apartments were pretty clean with a balcony to sit on. You had to pay extra for air con and a safety deposit box. We found a cockroach on the first night which i managed to trap with a jug! nasty lookin thing!!! plucked up the courage to chuck it over the balcony the next day. The hotel is next to a beach but it's pebbly - you need to walk about 5 mins to the mini harbour which had 2sunbeds/umbrella for 5euro and you get to use the 5star hotel bathroom facilities - nice! sea there is ok but lots of weeds and saw some rubbish in the sea too. If you walk another 5 to 10 mins u get to a sandy beach - one part was mega busy but there is a smaller quieter one just next to it for 6euro beach set. there was shallowish sea/sand for 15-20m out which was nice and was quite windy when we were there so lots of cool waves! snorkelling bit boring thou (last holiday was egypt though!) There are a number of restaurants along the beach - beware i got a bad tummy ache from the one with the whicker egg shaped seats. Greek people were pretty friendly and there were lots of supermarkets along the strip. there are more shops and restaurants/bars in the "centre" but it was all pretty quiet and chilled out. There is only 1 club that i saw. Lots of families and couples and lots of germans. Back to the hotel - The maid came to change the sheets once during the week we were there and visited late in the day a couple of days during the week to empty the bins. Towels were changed once. Did get 1 replacement toilet roll. Toilet seat was broken. Aircon was ok but difficult to adjust - always pretty cold. Tele had a music channel and 1 english channel. The kitchen was pretty good - had a microwave and enough cutlery/crockery. Fridge was clean. Cupboards were clean. Didn't try the hobs. Compact but had everything u needed. found a cockroach on the last night as well in the bathroom which started flying - oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!! pretty scary - but hey we are girls! managed to catch it without squashing it!! reception told us it was normal to find cockroaches in the rooms though as there were lots of plants around the buildings and cos of the heat ... hmmm.?!?!? still going to complain! Pool was ok - not massive - too many kids for my liking. there was a small slide and swings too. there weren't always enough sun beds unfortunately. 2euro for a cola at the pool bar! bar staff quite friendly though. we had a late check out on the last day but they were too booked up to keep the room later than 4pm so didn't bother. all in all hotel was ok - better than some i've stayed in! it was all pretty clean. just beach next to the hotel that disappointed me and the gruesome looking cockroaches! (oh yeah - u can visit the local water park - anopalis. there are some boat trips too )
great value

i have just returned from the kaissa beach apts goves, crete. this has been the best value for holdiay i have ever had. Only 20 mins from Heraklion airport by taxi. the apt complex has only 48 apts and set in beautiful gardens and some ground floor apts set in shade. the staff at the kaissa could not do enough for you, they are very approachaple, helpful and friendly. The beach is only a 10 min walk away to the left of the complex and safe for children. i would recommned this accomodation for all those who are seeking a quiet , relaxing holiday. the apartments are overlooking a pebble beach and the walk to the centre of goves is only a 5 - 10 min walk away. the only thing i would say agains the kaissa is the towels where not changed often enough and to some of them where a bit shabby. other than that a fabulous holiday, i would recommend to eat at the Milena restaruant a stones throw from the Kaissa , food is excellent.

As you will have seen by some of the other reviews, the accommodation is basic - however, we still feel it was value for money for the price we paid. In our opinion, this is compensated for by the excellent location and the friendlyness of all of the staff. What we liked best about this complex was the fact it was so small, and so we got to know almost everyone that was staying there, leading to some memorable nights in the pool bar!!! The pool bar served nice food throughout the day and Debbie, the barmaid, made us feel at home - she was very friendly and a great asset to the Kaissa Beach, as was Jenny, the night time barmaid! The personalities of the bar staff created a great atmosphere in the pool bar. On a Friday night there is a BBQ and Kareoke. The first week we didnt attend the BBQ but other guests had recommended it, saying the food was lovely. Taking their advice, we went the next week - in our opinion, the food was tasty but very little of it!! However the Kareoke and the Volleyball IN THE POOL at 2am afterwards was a night that will never be forgotten! The main strip is just a five minute stroll from the hotel and we found everything that we needed. We had some lovely meals in the Tavernas set right along the beach. Our most enjoyable meals where in Atlantis - just a short walk along the main strip, and Pella along the shore... I would recommend you try the local Greek dish Kleftico in this restaurant! All in all, we had a great holiday and if we go back to Gouves we would definately stay in the Kaissa Beach again.
very enjoyable stay

Kaissa Beach apartments are simply lovely, all the staff are very friendly and helped to make our stay much more fun. Both Jenny and Debbie had plenty ofadvise and made delicious drinks to ensure that our trip was enjoyable. The apartments are kept very clean and are in a lovely area right opposite the coastline. Plenty of tavernas to eat and lots of barswere eveyone is welcomingand friendly and ask about you everytime you see them. The beach is lovely and just a stone throws away from the apartments and very easily accessible. Overall our stay was fantastic, relaxing and enjoyable and we would definitely return to Crete and in fact to Kaissa Beach
excellant staff and nice apartements
from kir-sum
We really enjoyed staying at Kaissa Beach. Our apartment was very spacious and was very clean. The grounds are beautiful, with many different species of flowers. The pool is a good size, along with the sunbathing area. The staff are lovely...and Jenny who worked in the bar was great, she is very friendly, chatty and was really helpful with all our questions. The beach was just across the road from the apartments, but it was very stoney, however there is plenty of sandy beaches to the left and right of the apartments, we prefered the beaches to the right, about a 10 minute walk past the little church. There is plenty of places to eat in Gouves, however alot of the food did seem to cater for the british..but we did find some more traditional greek tavernas. To the right of Kaissa Beach (about 20 minute walk) was Mylos, they had plenty of greek dishes to choose from. Also the Davinci Code is supposed to be nice, although we never made it. To the left and in the center is a Floxenia, which is a family run restaurant and again was lovely. We also ate at the apartments restaurant, which we enjoyed. Gouves is a fairly quiet resort, and great for a relaxing holiday. The weather was amazing when we went easily in its late 20s - early 3os, most days there was a slight breeze wich made it bearable. All in all we did have a great time at Kaissa beach and enjoyed spending time at this relaxing resort.
basic but brilliant

We have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at the Kaissa apartments, although the day we arrived i thought we may not be staying. We arrived in the early hours of the morning when it was dark and relatively cold 'we needed blankets on the bed'. It was the first time my partner had experienced this type of selt catering holiday and he was expecting more! On arrival he thought the apartment was very basic indeed, the beds were not what he was used to and the bathroom was very small and very very basic. After explaining to him that everything would look better in the morning after a good nights sleep he seemed happier. Needless to say, in the morning the sun shone and all looked brighter. The apartments are very basic but clean, although the kitchen was lacking as far as utensils go. The shower was poor and the hot water is reliant on solar panels so if the sun doesnt shine, the water is cold. There was never a chance of a hot shower in the morning, but usually the water was warm enough late afternoon, although the further we get into summer maybe it will be less of a problem. We had requested a first floor room which luckily we managed to move to for our second week and the views were absolutely amazing. All in all we had a fantastic holiday, the location of the apartments was superb, Gouves we thoroughly enjoyed and we hired a car for a week and managed to see a lot of the island although we will have to go back again to see the parts that we just didnt have time to see, also to take all our photographs again as we were unfortunate to leave our camera in a taxi the day before we came home. To sum it all up, we would definately go back to Kaissa as for the money we paid it was excellent value. Diane & Gray - Leicester (May 2008)
Friendly staff, Basic Accomodation
from joey113uk
We were here the last week of October, when there was a distinctive "end of season" atmosphere. with the restaurants and hotels all over Crete closing down one after the other. The apartment was a bit small & basic, okay for couples but a bit too basic for families for my liking. On the other hand, we booked it for a very good price, so I shouldn't complain. It's okay for 1 week, but I would not recommend it for any longer than that. The plumbing of the drainage systems in the apartment was certainly not up to the task, but I discovered that this is not unusual in Crete. The staff was very friendly and helpful though, and the swimming pool & bar was a nice place to be. Restaurant "Atlantis" in the main street of tiny village Kato Gouves was fine, also here very friendly staff, but then everywhere the staff was kind of waiting for guests: it is very quiet here at the end of October, which is suprising because the weather was still lovely sunny and everyday up to about 22-24C. If you are a bit fed up with Greek food, there is an Indian in Hersonissos opposite the central church square, and close to this square is a traditional Greek restaurant where you sit nicely outside in the evening with a good look into the busy traditional kitchen. Iraklion is a nightmare to drive through or find a parking space in. For a nice peaceful Cretan coastal town with character, head east to Ag. Nikolaos.
very poor servcie and hygiene

We booked our holiday through a travel agent who had no photos of the apartments and very little info on them. This was a gamble and one I would def not take again. Gouves itself was beautiful. The restaurants were all set against the sea and the atmosphere was very family orientated. Gouves is a great location for travel to Hersonissos and Heraklion. The apartment complex itself was of a poor standard. We found the staff very inefficient and unwilling to help with any problems we had. Our room, no. 40 was quite spacious but the bathroom was tiny and had no window or ventilation system. We mentioned this to the staff several times and eventually a 'technician' was sent to fix it. He turned out to be the odd-job man from the pool and didnt do anything at all. My husband had to clear the drainage pipe himself. We also had a problem with the cleanliness of the apartment as the room wasnt cleaned and towels and sheets were not changed in over a week. When this was addressed to managment it was written in a book but no improvements were made. We found their inefficiency unaccpetable and only after a week of it when we quite firmly addressed matters for the third time did things change. The overall attitude from the staff was very unprofessional. The bar staff were very friendly and lovely to our child. We found though that twice and sometimes three times a week the largest area of the pool was closed off as the complex catered for Christening parties so for the day and night access for sunbathing was very limited as they filled this area with chairs and long tables. This caused quite a disgruntle amongst all. I would definetly return to Gouves but would avoid the Kaissa Beach Apartments as for the same money there is a good variety of accomodation on offer with far superior standards of service.
Blue Sky Kaissa Beach Appts
from Mr_Nash
Have just arrived back from a week at the Blue Sky Kaissa Beach appts in the resort of Gouves, Crete. Gouves is a very quiet resort best suited to couples or families wanting to enjoy a week by the beach. There is also a road further in land where more late night bars and restaurents are located, including pubs like the Pig & Wistle and Anfield Bar for those British tourists yearning for home. The beach is fairly small and can get crowded but there is a harbour beach area closer to the appts as well. 2 sunbeds and an umbrella will cost €5 to hire for the day. The appts are very spacious, clean and well maintained with maid service provided once during our 1 week stay. They appts are built on 2 floors, set back from the sea and road and easily accessible for all. The pool and pool bar area is also spacious, clean and well maintained although drinks and food prices at the pool bar are expensive for the area. The staff at the Blue Sky Kaissa beach are all very friendly and helpful. If you read negative reviews on this site referring to loud music from a local christening celebration held at the appts during our week there then please ignore them, it was no inconvenience to anyone and was enjoyable to watch the dancing and live music from the pool bar during the evening. I would advise against arranging vehicle hire through the appts as they are more expensive than hiring a car or quad bike through rental firms located on the main road inland. You should expect to pay €40-45 per day to hire a Suzuki Vitara or similar. Day trips to Elounda, Agios Nikolios and Spinnalonga are recommended. The food in Gouves generally is good but tailored towards tourists rather than traditional Greek cuisine. There is also a lack of fresh fish locally with some eateries referring to their fish as frozen on the menus. The three restaurents immediately outside the appts are by far the best in the resort.
Would recommend for couples and families!

The Kaissa Beach Appartments, or as we found out the full name is The Blue Sky Kaissa Beach Appartments, have been newly refurbished this year and are under new ownership, so when we booked we couldn't find any reviews to go on. We were very pleased with the holiday in general, Gouves is a small town in a nice location with a short transfer time from Heraklion airport - 25 Euros by taxi. There are plenty of tavernas within easy walking distance of the appartments and an assortment of shops to browse around. If you're looking for discos and nightclubs it's not the place for you, it's more suited to couples and families than young groups. The Kaissa Beach is situated right on the beach, though it's very stoney and not really suitable for swimming or sun bathing, but a short walk in either direction brings you to sandy beaches with sunbeds. The stoney beaches have been put to good use with a number of beach tavernas/bars where you can sit and watch the sun go down over the sea. The Kaissa Beach's ground floor and first floor appartments are nicely arranged around mature gardens and are very spacious and clean. Ours, number 40, was considerably larger than number 41 where our friends were, though even theirs was more than adequate. They were well equipped and had a TV and microwave, though for some reason we had knives and spoons but no forks??? I'm sure this would have been immediately rectified if we'd reported it to reception as they were very friendly and obliging and the manager and bar staff spoke very good English. Linen and towels were changed every other day and the maids even arranged my pyjamas on my bed in a nice pretty bow shape, which I thought was a lovely added touch and earned them a nice tip at the end of our stay. To get to the main street from the appartments, take a left along the beach and left again at the first junction. There you'll find the majority of tavernas and shops, though there are several worth visiting on the beach front. We ate in half a dozen different tavernas and two nights before the end of our holiday we tried the Atlantis on the main street and wished we'd gone there sooner. It was by far the best and one of the cheapest, the food was good and the staff genuinely eager to please and not at all pushy. Needless to say, we returned there on our last night. We are frequent visitors to the Greek Islands, though this was our fist time to Crete. We rarely ever go back to the same place twice, but this is one that I would return to. For a relaxing week sunning by the pool or on the beach it can't be beaten. We were there 11th to 19th May and had wall to wall sunshine, cloudless skies and temperatures in the low 30's, all but the last day when it was overcast and breezy.

Spacious well appointed clean apartments, complete with kettle, shower curtain etc in fact all you could want in a self catering flat (although we ate out). We stayed in a ground floor one bed terrace apartment that slept 4, very spacious ~ but not very private as the area... more
