Not a pleasant experience

Described by A2L as a 4 star studio apartment. What a joke.
Access2Leasure ? more like Welcome2Hell.
More room in a shoe box.
Arrived early hours in the morning to be sent to pokey room with dingy dark
wood surrounds. Discovered bed was a ghastly fold down contraption pulled
from a cupboard in the wall.
Toilet and shower room (no bath) was indescribably small with no shelf space
and a hand wash basin you could only wash one hand in at a time. This was just as
well because it was impossible to put both elbows up at the same time.
On the first morning, the shower tray overflowed. The flood ran under the door and across the room under the "bed" to the veranda, soaking the sheets and "blanket" which were touching the floor. This was partially attended to but the shower curtain did not reach into the tray which meant the floor was often flooded.
Complained to A2L staff next day that the abysmal standard of accommodation was not
what we had been shown at another of their hotels.
Got what turned out to be lying weasel words of an apology and an assurance that they
would get back to us. Upon subsequent sightings of the disingenuous pair we
were body swerved or met with a blank stare.
Stuck it out for four days and nights before finding alternate accommodation for ourselves. Gave the "hotel our new address but heard nothing from this thoroughly
disreputable group of individuals either for the rest of our two week stay on Malta
or since returning home some four months ago.
A "hotel" to avoid and, A2L , a company to beware of.

On a whole a very enjoyable stay. The one bed apartment we stayed in was very spacious and well maintained.
Not just the apartments but the whole hotel was spotlessly clean with rooms cleaned every day to a high standard, included in that was the pool area which was presure hosed every evening and a clean of the surrounding flowerbeds done.
The only complaint i had was the lack of control the hotel staff took on the reserving of sunbeds, if you wern,t down in reception area by 8am waiting for the pool doors to open you had no chance of a bed because you had the 'wrinklies' forming a que' holding bundles of towels ready for the off !
It became a bit of a joke throughout the holiday between the 'younger' families and when reported on numerous occasions by at least 4 families nothing was done.Like the lady we called 'camilla' (yes she was dead spit for charles bird) holding beds for friends for between 2 and 4 hours.
That aside the half board we took for the first week was brilliant value for money ,you couldn,t even buy the food from the supermarket for the price we payed.Food was ok but by the end of the week i was looking forward to getting out to the the local restaurants.
And the two best we found were two of the closest, the' PLUMBTREE' and the 'OVERFLOW'..top notch.
Malta in general is the marmite island, you either love it or you hate it, i loved it.
its relaxed in every sense ,the locals are friendly, food is good, travel on the buses is very cheap and not once did we see drunken louts littering the street, PERFECT!

me and my partner and my twin sister and her partner came to malta on a birthday break in march 08.
this was the first time that any of us had been to malta and we all thorouly enloyed it. we headed out 4 a more of a relaxing holiday than an eventfull one and that is exactly what we had. the weather was beautifull so it was excellent for sun bathing next to the pool. the hotel staff are very welcoming and always there if u need them. we were never bored there are lots of places to visit in malta and we were worried about how we would get around as none of us were old enough to hire a car but the busses are excellent running very frequently. if u are looking to just spend most of your time in the hotel then u will never get bored as there is an out door pool indoor pool a snooker room a masage parlor and i have to mention steves resturant amazin food we had a full breackfast every morning this is not to be missed. we are all definately going to return to this amazing hotel and we cant wait.

I became a club member in 2001 and have never looked back. Until then we were sold on Greece. Riza is a dream of a place compared with some places in Malta. Good sized appartments, cleaned every day and very friendly, helpful staff. we have been going to Malta 2,3 or even 4 times a year and would not stay anywhere else. This year we are celebrating our 30th wedding aniversary at Riza after looking through brochures for the Maldives/St Lucia and the Carribean and thought why when we can stay at Riza.
Malta is a wonderful place and would urge anyone thinking of going to go as I feel things will change very quickly now Malta is in the EU and not all for the better.
10/10 for Riza.

Have been to resort 3 times after buying a second hand timeshare for one week and we like it so much we have bought another three weeks.
Staff are both friendly and very helpful
Apartsments clean and towels changed daily if required which is not the case with a lot of timeshare or hotels that we have stayed in.
Restruant very good, breakfast good value. David Guntrip always on hand for trips, hiring a car, pickup from airport and general advice.
Our family also like it when using our apartment that they also bought two weeks.
Will be having many more holidays at Club Riza.

This is the 3rd time that my family and myself (2 adults 1 x 12 year old 1 x 7 year old) have been back to this resort over the last 5 years.
The staff at the resort are welcoming and helpful. We had a 1 bed apt that sleeps 4 The rooms are spacious well appointed with all the basic you need. The apts are good size b'room with shower, a good size twin b'room, a basic but ample kitchen and a living / dining room with. The living area cleverly hides a double drop down bed. Space allows for the bed to be dropped, a settee opposite and space to get passed.
There is an outdoor pool with a pool side snack bar, an outdoor spa pool. Sun beds can be a premium in high season but the complex operates a policy that if beds have been reserved by the towel brigade and not used within an hour or so the pool attendant will remove the towels if you ask which I think is great.
There is also an indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna downstairs in the basement. A laundry room and a Chinese massage centre. There is a roof top sunbathing area with shower facility that is adults only which surprisingly very few people use it.
The Riza is effectively self catering either B&B or Half Board. The food breakfast is good value for money as are the other meals. The only criticism is that the evening menu is limited but everything that is available is very well presented good value and the service is great.
The resort has a pub with entertainment most evenings though it does tend to be country and western. The kids have a video room and also the internet facilities.
The resort has a guy David which you can book car hire and also trips. To be honest if you don't fancy driving David does trips to most of the main attractions and is very reasonable. Travel around Malta is easy by local bus. A must to experience with the old buses and also the people are very friendly and helpful. The main bus terminus at Bigibba is less than 5 minutes walk away.
Eating out is as cheap or as expensive as you want. There is a wide variety of restaurants in and around Qawra and Bugibba to suit all budgets. A pint of lager from as little as 60c about £1 or slightly less. Shops etc are all around but even "Trolleys" supermarket is about 5 minutes walk away and has everything you could want.
Good tip is look round at the restaurants and see which ones the locals are in a good sign of good value and good quality.
A great relaxing place is Malta, friendly and very very safe. The Riza is a great place for a mix of relaxing and / or a base from which to explore.

My husband and I have been going to Malta for 9 years now. We used to go on a package deal until we were 'caught' one day by one of the many reps on the island. We were so impressed with Club Riza that we signed up.
We go to Club Riza whenever we have a holiday and look forward to it every time. The apartments are like a home from home and the service and staff are second to none.
The restaurant closes at 8PM but there are restaurants in all directions.

My husband & I stayed last May on a timeshare exchange.
Apartment was in the basement so dark due to the frosted glass that had to be in the patio doors, as otherwise lorries parked outside could look in and they did!
The patio was full of dead plants and flies as we were next to the rubbish dump. Despite complaining nothing was done, a chap in the foyer told me he would put my complaint in the bin.
We complained to our timeshare co. and we have free week not that we will be taking it in Malta.
Riza was disgusting and they should be ashamed of themselves and the restaurant closes at 7pm, just when we wanted to eat

The Club Riza was excellent value. The apartment was clean and well-equipped, the staff were friendly and the public areas were clean and spacious.
Excellent value and one to recommend. My only caveat would be that the pool area might get full very quickly in peak season.
Location wise, the complex is near to the lively part of Qawra, with plenty of choice of good eats on all budgets, and very near to the bus station which permits easy travel to all parts of the island.
As with anywhere in Malta, parking can be a complete nightmare but other than that I'd recommend this place.
