This hotel is part of Loch Fyne Restaurant and is situated above the restaurant in Milsom street in Bath. I imagined the hotel to be quite grand even though the website said it was quite small! When we arrived the reception room is on the 1st floor so as you enter you are... more

Affordable, Modern, Excellent Location
The Milsoms Hotel in Bath is an excellent hotel. Here is a list of the good and bad aspects of the hotel: The Good: - Excellent location. The hotel is located in the centre of the City, on Milsom Street which is a very nice, classy place, with lots of big name shops and restaurants (e.g. Borders, Cafe Rouge, ASK Pizza). - Modern decor. The rooms of the hotel are decorated in a very contemporary, modern style. They look cool and feel smart, comfortable and luxurious. The soft table lamps in the room provide a warm, cosy light. - Tasty breakfast. The included breakfast is served in the modern, classy Loch Fyne Restaurant. You can start your day with kippers, but for those less adventurous they offer a Full English Breakfast (sausage, tomato, bacon, fried egg). The Bad: - Noisy location. The central location of the hotel has it's disadvantages. The hotel is surrounded by a few bars and clubs, which attract noisy, inconsiderate teenagers, who make a lot of noise up until the very early hours of the morning. The best way to deal with this is to keep all your windows closed. - Staircase. The hotel is stacked up vertically, around a large staircase. If your room happens to be on the top floor, you'll have a lot of stairs to climb. There is no lift/elevator, making the Milsoms a no-go zone for the disabled, elderly or lazy.
Great central location
Milsoms (should there be an apostrophe there?) is right in the centre of town - between 2 and 10 minutes walk of just about everywhere you'd want to visit. The hotel rooms sit anonymously on top of the Loch Fyne restaurant, up a seemingly endless Georgian staircase (73 steps in our case, and no lift / elevator if you've heavy luggage!). Think of it as a free cardio-vascular workout. We arrived in the middle of Friday night rush hour in the restaurant, meaning our welcome was a little frosty (you enter the hotel via the restaurant toilets after 6pm!), although other than this, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms look great - lots of light from large sash windows, modern/simple/elegant decor and comfortable bed. Tendency to be too hot, though.Breakfast in the restaurant is excellent, although we couldn't face up to smoked kippers with a hangover. Finally, no car parking - make sure you have 6 £1 coins for the Charlotte St pay & display car park (5 mins walk, £6 for 24 hr)
