Champs Avalins Chalet Hotel is situated right as you enter Val D'Isere resort on the transfer bus, which is ideal, after the long drive. It has just 40 rooms (sleeps 80). The staff were very welcoming and there was coffee and cake available (around 4:30pm daily). The was... more

Holiday heaven at the Chaps
We arrived at Champs Avalins and were astounded by the quality of service by young staff, they were all just brilliant. The food was the best i have ever tasted thanks to "crusher" the house chef. Although the rooms were snug they were cleaned meticulously every single day by the friendly staff [they folded all of our clothes]. The bar area and free wine enabled me and my friends to really enjoy the holiday to the max. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are returning this easter for more fun at the champs!
Basic but NOT bearable!!
We booked this family holiday fairly last minute through Iglu-ski (who then use Total) and was assured by the agent that this was a really comfortable, convenient chalet. We are two adults and four teenagers. Upon arrival we saw that the building is part of a massive & monstrous construction of basic apartments in the area La Daille which is a bus ride outside of Val d'Isere. All arrivals to the 'chalet' were crammed into the tiny reception area. We went to get in the lift which was about big enough for two people and one case! The... more
Basic but bearable
Rooms very tired, not couple friendly (two singles that would move apart at slightest movement) but rooms were big enough. En suite was extremely tired but the main thing was hot water. Hotel itself needs complete renovation and refurbishment. Paid a supplement for a better room - not sure I could comprehend anything more basic. That said, staff in the hotel were all great. The food that is served is also of a high quality and the complimentary wine reduced the need to spen too much on overpriced alcohol in the resort... more
Excellent for groups, basic for couples
We were a large group and although the bar was a bit small and the rooms quite basic and tired, we could not fault the quality of food and friendliness of staff and management. Juliette and Claus did everything to make our stay great, The hotel position is a short (5-10min) bus ride (free buses) out of the main drag, which for us was fine. The lifts and funicular were within a couple of minutes' walk and we could ski back almost to the door. The resort itself is very expensive, partly due to the current exchange rate, but we had free,... more
shabby not chic, but good satff
Champs Avalins is pretty poor as hotels go. The bar is very small, the restaurent is also small necessitating two sittings. The food is far from good, esp vegetarian options. Staff are friendly and helpful though and clean well. Bear in mind you will not get a meal or tidied on weds. It is also not in Val.. It is in La Daille, a 5 min bus ride to town.
Good food, hotel okay, great resort,
Hotel was in a reasonable location, with a few shops and bars nearby. Its based in the La Daille area, outside the main resort but there are frequent buses to Val d'Isere that run from the early hours until the next morning. The slower chair and pod are closer, but it is a bit of a trek to the train. The hotel itself does need refurbishment, but it was always clean and the food was great. The communal areas aren't great either, and satisfactory at best. The downstairs bar is ok but like much of the hotel does look past its best.... more
Fab resort and good hotel!
I stayed at Champs from 13th till the 20th Jan 2008 in a group of 21. It was my first stay in Val d'isere and it was a good un! The resort is lovely and we were very lucky with the snow. The location of the hotel is fab for the slopes just a few mins walk from the funicular. Its a little out of town for the nightlife but there are free buses that run from very early in the morning till 1.30am so we made the most of them. The hotel is ok, rooms are basic but warm and clean and the bathroom is adequate. The views from the balcony are... more
Very basic, scruffy chalet hotel
We stayed here as part of a package holiday with Total Ski. The hotel is very basic, shabby, "youth hostel" accommodation. The furishings are tired, the building is in need of complete renovation, and the common parts far too small. They cannot seat more than half the guests at any one time, so have two 'sittings'. The dinning room itself does not "overlook the piste" as claimed (but rather a car park and a road) and is very gloomy, and the bar area is tiny, dingy and too small when the hotel is full. Meals are billed as... more
fantastic food and very friendly staff
Very basic hotel which could do with freshening up, but it was clean, the water was hot, the beds had firm mattresses and the food was simply fantastic. The staff were friendly and keen to please, and the bar prices were pretty reasonable, especially for Val. Nice touch having aperitif’s and canapés as you waited for dinner, and it was lovely to have staff offering you fresh coffee, orange juice and a continental breakfast as you headed off home - at 5 in the morning !! The constant free bus service into Val takes a few minutes, so... more
Odd
Very basic rooms a bit like a Youth hostel. WC's clean enough. Cleaning staff more interested in skiing and snowboarding. The food was great quality and the resturant manager was very helpful. Will not be going back to stay as its just way too basic!
