Courtleigh Hotel & Suites Reviews
Apr 2007, Mrs J Foy
We stayed at the Courtleigh from 12 - 24 March (there for the Cricket World Cup!). The Courtleigh is in the heart of the financial district just across the road from Emancipation Park (more of that later). We had a room on the 8th floor (you need a key to get up in the... more

Where I will stay on business
from A TripAdvisor Member
Good enough when you are in Kingston on business. Not as slick as the Hilton or Pegasus on either side, but if you don't want to waste your money, the Courtleigh is comfortable, clean, has a good staff, and good food. Oddly, the guests at the Hilton and Pegasus seemed less savoury (gangstas? sex workers? U.S. marines from the Embassy?) than those at the more modest Courtleigh. The Hilton has unusually huge door men/bouncers. One problem with the Courtleigh is that the Hilton's pool area is very close to its western side. Every night, the Hilton has poolside music. The music is often nice, especially on jazz night. It usually stops around 10:30 PM. But beware of Kareoke (sp?) night. The top 40 music is loud and the howling would-be idols are terrible. Kingstonians pack the place, though they are kept behind a rope as if in accordance with a Jim Crow bylaw. Kareoke tends to go on until 11 or 11:30. On the good side, the only city park safe to visit in Kingston is about a minute's walk away - beautiful lawns and very busy in the evening. It's well guarded, except on the sidewalk and parking lot. Finally, there's Kevin, who you cannot avoid, on the sidewalk facing the three hotels. He claims the street as his turf and will try to sell you, well, all sorts of stuff. When he is not blocking the path of Causasians so they cannot pass without either talking to him or pushing him aside, he hangs out with his friends in the portico of an abandoned building almost across from the Hilton. There, he sells an odd assortment of souvenirs - including raccoon skin hats. He'll tell you he gets very angry when people do not talk with him or buy his "wares."
Courtleigh Fails to Measure Up
from GaySquinty
I have been a guest at the Courtleigh hotel on frequent occasions (not of my own volition) and from the outset, unfortunately, have struggled to give this operation the benefit of the doubt. As those of us who were taught at Hotel and Catering colleges and work in the tourism industry are aware, staff should at all times remain respectful and somewhat aloof when dealing with guests. The Courtleigh has alot to learn. Some Comments: Although the hotel advertises "Wireless hotspots in every room" getting a wireless connection is next to impossible, and I routinely find the strongest and overriding signal I receive (which must be embarrasing for the hotel) is from the superior Hilton next door. When I contacted staff I was told they were sorry, and would I like to use the "Business centre" which is more of a dog kennel than a business centre, for which I paid $4 for 15 minutes. In the UK, I pay 50p for half an hour. Not even a "Please use the Business centre free of charge Sir, we apologise for dragging you down from your room and our lack of a wireless connection as advertised". When you stay there, check also if, like many rooms I have stayed in, your bed is supported underneath by a large makeshift wooden brick...perhaps s-- really is the only satisfying experience at the Courtleigh, and even then no guarantees. You'll feel the wood (no pun) driving into your back in the night as you look over longingly from your 1 foot balcony into the Hilton or Courtleigh. The front dest staff, bar one little fellow with delusions of grandeur, are in fairness lovely people, as are all the bar and restaurant staff. It's a shame the food is not as nice as those who serve it. A leathery 8oz steak for equivalent of Sterling Pounds 13 is like paying Gordon Ramsay prices in McDonalds. It tastes more like an unlit Rastafarian joint, I imagine, except the hallucinations and flash backs from the steak haven't worn off 3 months on. On leaving the Courtleigh expect to be accosted by a legion of beggars, mind you I felt I got more value giving those poor fellas money than signing off at the Courtleigh, where you can expect serious delays on room service, a room that's not cleaned when you return to it. You'll leave thinking "Surely they should have christened it The Wartleigh". The Air cons stink of urine and are far too loud, and the bar singer crows till the early hours (did he have something from the Microwave Menu?) Speaking of christenings, to my surprise and disgust, a male staff member, newspaper in hand, was busy christening my toilet in his own way on one arrival. Literally caught with his pants down, he tried to deflect the issue with light conversation, asking how my flight was from behind the door while rapidly cleaning his behind. You've been warned folks
Great place to stay

This was a great hotel. The staff was courteous and friendly. The room (we had a suite) was spacious, clean, and v. comfortable. We were able to have a deliciously traditional and wonderful breakfast (I'm Jamaican), and we were v. close to everything in town. I can't wait to go back!
By far the best in Kingston
from NKC
The Courtleigh is a locally-owned hotel, not part of a chain. The owner is frequently on-site. The personal attention shows. Although an older property, it is spotless. The hotel delivers a charming, comfortable, "small hotel" atmosphere in a large (for Kingston) hotel. Good points: Convenient location in New Kingston, near major businesses. Very reasonable prices for the cleanest, best appointed rooms in Kingston. During my last visit, I paid the lowest price I have ever paid in Kingston for what was by far the best room I have had in a Kingston hotel. Friendly, helpful staff Limited menu in the restaurant, but outstanding quality and service at a very reasonable price. Although an older hotel, the Courtleigh is very well maintained. Free wireless internet in guest rooms Not-so-good point: This is really picky. The lobby and reception area are small and can sometimes seem crowded. Nonetheless the lobby is very attractively furnished and comfortable. My quest for a good hotel in Kingston has ended!
The best of a not too good bunch

Kingston is not really a place to linger so it’s hardly surprising that there aren’t any particularly good hotels there. The Courtleigh is not part of a global chain nor is it particularly large but it is a perfectly acceptable place to stay at when in Kingston. The rooms are well sized and reasonably appointed, everything seem new and fresh. Staff aren’t overly in evidence but those that one comes come across seem OK. Breakfast isn’t great (at least on the standard one included in the room rate) but there’s some fresh fruit, make your own toast and the room and the room, looking out on the small pool, is bright enough. Main gripe was the noisy air con unit several floors below- it took a couple of nights to get moved, better rooms were available but only at substantial extra cost and the fact that my company regularly uses the hotel and had a large group there at the time didn’t carry any weight. I asked the people we were visiting about the neighbouring Hilton and Pegasus and was told that in both cases, the hotels are far larger (which was obvious) and the rooms are shabby – the Courtleigh is not the Ritz but I’d stay there again.
WOW, way better than expected

I just spent 10 nights at the Courtleigh with 35 others in my group. The staff was so friendly, they bent over backwards for us at every turn. The resturant was great, free breakfast was great, room service, the best. I would stay at the Coutrleigh again in a heartbeat. I was very impressed overall. Problems? Only a few of our people had trouble with the AC in their room and the hotel was quick to check things out. The noise level from the neighboring hotels was pretty bad, Courtleigh is in between the Hilton and the Pegesus and they had loud pool parties at night.
Very Nice Hotel
from GlobeTrotter
Stayed on a long business trip here (10 weeks) Jan-March. Loved this hotel for it's peace and quiet after a long day at work (in comparison to the Hilton/Pegasus). Stayed in the long stay apartments across from the main building, which was great, as we couldn't hear anything if the pool bar had any events on. The hotel is well situated in Kingston 5 and is sandwiched between the Hilton and the Pegasus (both of which you have full access to - pool, restaurants etc). My room was large and airy with all the amenities you'd expect + a microwave and fridge. Wireless internet is available, but reception is best in the lobby area and by the pool. Food was great (both the pool bar and Alexanders restaurant), so was the service, all the bar tenders are very friendly and chatty. I would definantely recommend this hotel and would stay here again on my next visit.
Nothin but the Best

This hotel was a relief after the bad time we had at the Hilton. The attendant was very prompt and the others team members at the fronk desk, business center and the restaurant and Mingles was very polite and concern about how our stay was there. After the second moring the waitress in the restaurant remember what we had breakfast and always made sure we didnt wait long. The Blue Mountain coffee was alway hot and the Pineapple orange juice was always fresh and cold. Always a taxi to carry you anywhere. The rooms was nice and clean before we came up from breakfast. There is so much I can say about this hotel, but I dont think I have enough space. The hotel customer service was excellent and we will continue to stay there for the rest of our visit. We are rebuilding a home there so you will see alot of us.
Family Reunion
from A TripAdvisor Member
we had a family reunion in Kingston and I booked rooms at a few Hotels for our family. I, of course being a good host and the person in charge of accomodations, ask everyone how their hotel was and if everything was okay. Everyone that I booked into Courtleigh had rave review and were very happy. We would meet at the Mingles bar and eat in the restaurant, Alexanders and I found both to have excellent service. The food at Alexanders was also delicious. The staff were very friendly and you really felt like family. can't say the same for the other hotels which I won't name. My first choice for accomodation in Kingston would have to be Courtleigh.
Friendly place to stay

I've stayed at the courtleigh many times and it has the friendliest staff. The suites are worth the extra when its really hot as the airconditioning works better in the suites bedroom than the standard rooms.Room service is very reasonable and the restuarant isn't bad.The downsides are the pool is very small and the bar stinks of popcorn, however the outside bar is fine.

I was booked in here for a business trip that included a weekend stay. The staff are extremely courteous and the restaurant in the hotel is really outstanding. The air conditioning doesn't work very well although they brought a fan to the room when requested. My only... more
