Stayed for a long weekend. Hotel was lovely, the outside was slightly in need of redecoration but do not let this put you off. Staff were very friendly. Indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Thermal spa which was fab. Sauna was not working when we stayed. The room had a... more

AWFUL!
I have just got back from a 4 night stay at the kilbirnie hotel. when i called to book my room just a few days before i was due to arrive i was greeted by a very ovely sounding young lady, who even though i had alot of questions was very efficent and polite. after this call i was looking forward to my stay and thought i was going to have a lovely time. I was very wrong! I was first checked in by what i can only describe as the rudest receptionist i have ever met. She was very short with me, demanded payment in full on arrival eventhough she already had my credit card details from when i paid a £100 deposit! I later found out that she was apparently the head receptionist!! I the had to wait what seamed like a life time to be seated for my dinner as the restaurant manager was too busy chatting at the bar!!! Again he was very rude, although i think he thought he was funny! The room was nice obviously newly done, that was just about the only good point. during my stay i observed that the staff have several different roles that they are expected to perform at the same time. one night the poor young lady at the reception guest was running up and dow the stairs making room services, serving at the bar and checking in other guests. I can only feel sorry for these people! All i have to say about this place is that it is a joke!
GREAT HOTEL IN GOOD POSITION
The room was a family room which overlooked the pool, it was large and modern and very clean with clean towels everyday, the indoor pool was lovely and warm ( didnt try the outside pool). Breakfast was excellent and plenty of it, only complaint would be parking a bit tight for large cars. Hotel is walking distance from beaches and town, no late night noise from the town !!!! Would definately stay here next time we go to Newquay
Perfect for what we wanted
Three of us stayed here for 2 nights from Thurs 4th Aug. We had a family room which consisted of a double bed, and a single bunk over another double bed, and en-suite bathroom with shower. Our room and facilities were very pleasant and seemed to be much more modern/up-dated than some of the other chintzy rooms that we nosed in on as we headed to breakfast! Breakfast consisted of a number of options, including buffet style continental and a number of 'full english' options. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, and we had no complaints other than the fact that the walls seemed very thin on the Friday night! (Girls giggling and doors slamming until the early hours). There were also pool and spa facilities which we didn't get chance to utilise but they looked good with plenty of other people taking advantage. It's situated opposite Tolcarne beach, so it's a 5-10 min walk into the centre of town, which is perfect for not hearing all the late night kerfuffles that can occur as people pour out of the bars/clubs in the early hours! I'd definitely go back there! Perfect for a short break away, and reasonably priced.
third rate
this a very poor three star hotel. Firstly as soon as we arrived we were asked to settle the remainder of our bill - we had paid a 50% deposit. Our room was most disappointing -cheap dated furniture, chipped woodwork, dirty walls with cobwebs and pilled nylon bedspreads. The bathroom window was cracked in two places, there was mildew round the bath and the radiator had chipped paint and was rusty. In the dining room the carpet round the serving area was very dirty and the silverware was not clean. Overall this hotel was not value for money and I would not recommend it.
Good and bad points
I just got back from a week at the Kilbirnie hotel in Newquay. We stayed in a premium room with pool views. Overall the room was of a good standard, clean and bright. all went well until bed time came around. the walls were so paper thin that i could hear next door snoring. the walls need sound proofing drastically. I was woken up early by next doors conversation, fell asleep to next doors snoring, not somthing i exactly paid for. The hotel however is clean, relaxing and lovely. the food was great, vegetarians beware however you will be eating either mushrooms, lasagne or omlettes during your stay. Overall i would recommend the hotel, i dont know what the other rooms are like with regard to the sound proofing, i ended up moving my bed to another side of the room (under the window) and listened to my walkman.
Not all good
Room clean. Breakfast & dining room staff great. Recieved 3 phone calls to room, plus 2 staff visits (the seond time by the tallest man they could find, presumably to intimidate us), all to get our car moved while we were getting ready to go to a wedding reception. No apologies forthcoming for the aggravation. To top this, we waited in the doorway for 15-20 mins afterwards, trying to get the night porter to materialise. When he did, he was rude and called us liars about the time we'd waited & that we'd been ringing the bell all that time. Took the shine of what should have been a memorable evening.
Great hotel
This hotel is fantastic, the staff are friendly the rooms are very comfortable and the food is excellent. Just far enough out of the town centre to be relaxing yet close enough to visit the towns great nightlife. Decoration is a bit dated but more than pleasant on the eye. Situated on the Barrowfields in Newquay you are just 5-10 minutes walk from various beaches. (most of this time spent walking down the steps form the cliff top) For the children they have a pool table/table tennis/2 swimming pools and snooker, they also have a sun deck sauna and jacussi for those wishing to chill out on holiday. evening entertainment is provided in the typical uk hotel style with live bands and music most nights during the summer. I would advise anyone staying in Newquay to take a look at this hotel. I have been here many times both as a child with my parents and as an adult with my girlfriend. Each time I have had a great holiday and I look forward to many more!
A lovely atmosphere
I reckon the kilbirnie hotel in newquay is owned by the nicest people! If you stay at this hotel you will love it! I recomend it totally! A very inviting atmosphere, comfortable rooms, swimming pools, sauna. Its brilliant!
Comfy hotel
The Kilbirnie is a nice, English comfortable hotel. In fact, if I had American friends visiting Newquay I would recommend it as an English experience. The food is middle of the road - no foreign food.... and the breakfasts are traditional English. The staff were all very professional and helpful and the rooms were clean enough... no mildew in the bathroom, which is my personal hate. The swimming pool was average but warm enough and wasn't too crowded when we went there in October. Negative points: Nothing for the children to do in the evenings. Board games would have been welcome. Decorations a bit dated - usual hotel 'seventies' style with pink and swirly carpets. Overall: Good value for money
Outstanding
I stayed at the hotel for a weekend in April 2001 with my wife and 13 year old son.We had a great time. The food was excellent, the rooms were basic but very clean with tea/coffee making facilities, shower/bath. There are 2 pools 1 indoor/1 outdoor. A jacuzzi and a sauna. They also have a snooker table and a pool table. There is a very nice bar and excellent entertainment. I throughly reccomend the hotel
