Wonderful Boutique Hotel in St Germain
from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location, located in the heart of St Germain. Metro stop was a quick 2 block walk and the best shopping and eating is right at your doorsteps. Very walkable to the Louvre and d'Orsay, and pretty much all the major sights. We checked in at 7am, expecting not to be able to get to our room until the scheduled check in time of 1pm, but the front desk was very gracious and accomodating and got us into our room right away. Great relief after traveling 13 hours from California! The room was small, but that is to be expected for most European cities, but was clean and very comfortable. The marble baths were nice, but the separate little closet the toilet was in was extremely claustrophobic and tight. Water temperature and pressure in the showers were ok, we didn't get the hot/cold issues some previous travelers experienced, but it can definitely be better. I am extremely picky and was very pleased with the service and quality of this hotel. The staff was attentive and very responsive. The computers in the lobby that was free to use for guests was nice. The spa in the hotel was also nice, but the massuese only works select days of the week, book early! Although this hotel is unique in and of itself, the quality and service of this hotel is very reminiscent of the W and Kor's hotels back home. Overall, wonderful and we would definitely stay there again!
Enjoyed the Bel Ami
from shopgirl
We stayed at the Bel Ami for 1 week on our honeymoon. We couldn't ask for a better location, off the main street in St Germain, very close to 2 metro lines and a short walk to the Seine. Breakfast was included and was very good. We had booked one of the romance packages and rec'd a complimentary bottle of champagne and macaroons from Laduree. The Bel Ami's rooms were small, but what Parisien hotel's rooms aren't? The concierge was wonderful and always willing to help. The only time they steered us wrong was telling us that we needed to be "very well dressed" for lunch at Jules Verne. (We ended up being rather overdressed compared to other diners, but rather that than underdressed, I suppose.)
Great hotel, great location

My husband and I just got home from a five day trip to Paris. A friend of a friend recommended we stay at Hotel Bel Ami. We loved being on the Left bank. There are great restaurants all around and a cozy little Jazz club too. The hotel itself is clean, new, relaxing and has a very helpful staff. Our room was pretty small, but it was designed so well, everything fit. The cleaning staff was very loud; slamming doors and talking loudly in the halls, so it was hard to sleep in which we like to do on vacation. Other than that, it would be hard to find a better place to stay for the money.
More than expected

We just came back from our 9 days vacation, Bel Ami Hotel is a gem. Rooms are very clean and quiet , modern comfortable bathrooms, breakfast was wonderful . Area is upscale, full of art galleries, nice restaurants, cafes and a short walk to Louvre. I would go there again.
over rated and over priced for what it is

We just stayed at the Bel Ami. I organised a romantic weekend for my husband and I and had heard about the Bel Ami from Conde Nast traveller. I have to say I am over design hotels- they are basically 3 star hotels with a chic marble lobby and some colour theme that charges 5 star prices. And this was that- the rooms were TINY and we had a superior deluxe- I can't even imagine what a standard room was like! Our loo wasn't even properly cleaned! The toiletries were extremely basic- in fact that is how I describe the whole hotel- basic. The area is lovely but we saw similar hotels in the same area for half the price. Although I do have to say the staff was very nice BUT NOT worth 320 euros!
Good Choice - Will Return

I just got back from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Bel Ami and here is my review: The best location at a very fair rate! The rooms are small but very well appointed; there was nothing that I was missing. Small rooms are almost expected in that location. We slept 3 in the room and we were comfortable. The room did not have all of the modern conveniences that you have in the brand new hotels (i.e. DVD player, flat screen TV (regular TV yes) and fancy modern bath) but most of us don't have time to watch TV when you are in Paris so I wouldn't consider this a major negative. My rate included breakfast which was very nice. The breakfast even had bacon, sausage and eggs I was not expecting that at all. The selection of breads, cheeses, cereals and fruits were wonderful! Loved the spa! I had one of the best massages! Great to get off plane and have a massage scheduled. Definitely a plus to have this in the hotel. Concierge was great! There was nothing that he could not arrange. Once again the location is amazing we were in the heart of it all - we even walked to the Louvre on the Right bank. We rarely had to use the metro or taxi because everything was walking distance restaurants, shops and museums! Unlike the previous review we had no noise. We all slept very well in quite comfortable beds. Enjoy! You will have made a good choice. I will definitely return again.
Seasoned, fussy travellers - loved the Bel Ami
from travelaid
We stayed for four nights in the Bel Ami for an extended rugby weekend. This was our first visit to Paris and having spent what seemed like hundreds of hours, as has become customary before we travel, searching through the Trip Advisor site we finally chose the Bel Ami and we were not disappointed. This is a bright, modern, contemporary hotel in a central location which couldn't be beaten - the most fashionable district in town, I'm sure, with Armani, Cartier, Dior et al in the surrounding streets; what seemed like hundreds of art galleries and interior design shops; chocolatiers and excellent restaurants -plus only minutes from the nearest Metro station. From the moment we arrived the staff were courteous and helpful; the rooms clean, modern and perfectly adequate in size by continental standards(after all, how much space do you need if you are only in the room to sleep after an exhausting day sightseeing and a late night over good food and wine!). The bathroom, although smallish, was very modern and had a surprisingly useful array of toiletries provided. Bed linen was changed daily. The buffet breakfast was very enjoyable with a good choice to suit all tastes - unless you are unreasonably fussy! The only criticism we had is that the small bar area lacks atmosphere but since there is such a choice or restaurants, cafes and bars in the vicinity of the hotel this didn't matter to us. If you are looking for old-fashioned opulence then this hotel is not for you. If, on the other hand, you are like us - keen travellers who like modern, quite trendy hotels and are fussy about standards of cleanliness, location, courtesy and food - stay at the Bel Ami. We hope to be back - and next time I will make time to visit the spa! PS TripAdvisor has to be one of the most useful sites on the web - I am already trawling it for our next trip!
Worth every penny

Just got back from a stay, and was not disappointed. The location is on a quiet street a couple blocks from Boulevard St. Germain. The metro stop St. Germain Des Pres is only a short stroll away (2min). From CDG take the RER to chatelet, then get on the metro line 4 to get here--real easy. If you're not familiar with this area, it's probably the best arrondissment to stay in due to the central location which puts it within strolling distance to the seine, notre dame, st. sulpice church, as well as great access to restaurants, cafes, and the shopping of rue de rennes and the department store le bon marche. The staff was extremely welcoming, and there was always plenty of staff on duty at almost all hours of the night. The lobby was bright and cheerful, the bar perhaps a little too bright, but adequate for a couple after dinner drinks, although the prices weren't cheap. (15 euros for a glenfiddich, around 10 for coctails.) There's also free internet in the lobby with a couple of computers one with an American keyboard, the other with a european keyboard. You can also get wireless internet for the length of your stay, but it was around 39 euros for the 2 1/2 days, and in the end wasn't necessary since I wasn't at the hotel all that much. It was raining most of the time I was there, but they had nice large umbrellas for guest use, which was a big plus. The room was fine, somewhat sparse furnishings but tastefully decorated. Bathroom was good size. Didn't get a chance to eat the buffet breakfast, but popped my head in for a look, and it seemed like a good selection of fresh bread and juices, etc. I've stayed at the Aubusson and the Best Western Left Bank St. Germain which are also in the same neighborhood, and I'd have to say this hotel is squarely in between the two in terms of price and value. The Best Western is less expensive, but a little dated and the rooms/common areas are somewhat small. The Aubusson is more luxurious, the common spaces are a little bit grander, and although the rooms are about the same size, it tends to be a little on the pricier side for you to get more of the Parisian "romantic" atmosphere. I'd highly recommend this hotel. Also check out their website for package deals for multiple night stays.
Best Chic Hotel in Paris
from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed @ the Bel Ami for 3 nights (jan 2006). i've stayed in paris many times. this is the best euro hotel i've ever stayed in. the service, the location, the atmosphere, made it ideal. your not going to get a huge room in euro, especially paris. the bel ami rooms were quiet, spacious, and decorated hip. kind of pricey, the location and service you will get is worth the dough. I would compare the bel ami to starwood hotels "W" Hotels. the concierge recommendations were outstanding. everything they recommended was perfect. the bel ami makes your trip to paris complete. check it out, if you can afford it.
Wonderful Boutique Hotel in St. Germain de Pres
from A TripAdvisor Member
I had a wonderful three day stay at this hotel on Rue St. Benoit in St. Germain de Pres. I was searching for a clean, comfortable, 4 star boutique hotel in Paris and found this gem on [-------------]. I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and stayed for three nights between XMAS and New Years. The rooms are clean and stylish; on the small side, but that is to be expected in Paris. If you are looking for a large room, you are better off staying in one of the national chain hotels on the outskirts of Paris (e.g., Westin, Le Meridien). The bed was comfortable - though, not a Westin Heavenly Bed. The real story here is the service: from the moment you arrive -- the personal tour, reception -- until you check out, you are greeted warmly and treated as a valued guest. The concierge was excellent and mapped out my routes for me each morning. They arranged my taxi to the airport (at 5am on Saturday morning) and served me coffee in the quiet lobby while I waited for my taxi to arrive. The location is also excellent -- literally a five minute walk to the Louver (without having to stay in one of the touristy hotels on the Right Bank). There is also a taxi stand and metro stop two blocks away. The street is quiet and one block off Rue St. Germain. Don't miss the breakfast buffet -- the buffet is wonderful, newspapers, excellent coffee, wonderful eggs, pastries and fruit. I had just come from the Berlin Marriott where I stayed on the Concierge floor and this experience was just as good, if not better. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

When going to Paris in August, it’s important to remember one thing; expect the unexpected. The French are famed for their cuisine, so when my husband got food poisoning on our last night, Saturday, it was a shock. It had been wise to book a hotel whose staff spoke good... more
