After a mess up with direct holidays.com and Sunset (now defunct, probably for the best!) we ended up being shoved into the Thalia hotel. We had booked Room Only but got upgraded to B&B as a goodwill gesture.
We were in the last room down a dark corridor on the lower ground floor... ominous. The bathroom and therefore the room smelt of Sewage... we cleaned the plughole many times but the stink kept pervading. Nikos on Reception seemed unconcerned... apparently it’s “the wind”. Hmmm.
Also had a slight altercation with some (about 4) large cockroaches hiding behind the board behind the beds...YUK! On reporting this to reception we were armed with a bug spray and packed off to deal with it ourselves. Nice!!
Anyway apart from that the resort is nice!!
Take it with a pinch of salt, it’s a Greek experience!!

After reading terrible reviews of the Thalia I was quite scared of what to expect on arrival!
I had requested a higher floor room after hearing that the ground floor rooms often flooded and smelt of sewage! On arrival at the hotel, the reception was nicely decorated and the hotel seemed okay.
Our room was fine, basically decorated with twin beds, two electric rings, sink and fridge freezer (although we couldn’t get anything in the freezer, it needed defrosting)
We had a view of the pool, which did get quite busy at night as the bar was open late.
I did notice that there were no English people staying on our floor and most of the English residents were staying on the ground floor, which, although they had a large terrace area most of these rooms looked a little dark and miserable!
The pool could have been cleaner but it wasn’t exactly dirty! The actual pool area was nice enough with enough sunbeds for everyone and lots of plants and greenery around.
There was a supermarket on site and also a jewellery shop.
The Thalia is in a good location, there are two ways you can get down to the beach and the Thalia is in the middle of both.
Although we did go on a B&B Basis, we got the holiday for the same price as self catering so decided that after seeing the rock solid bread rolls we would go out for our breakfast in the morning! We often went to the Blue Bay Cafe which did nice breakfast baguettes and the larger supermarkets did fresh fruit as well!
Overall, I can see why some people would be disappointed with the Thalia, but then again it is only a 2*+ and I, personally wasn’t expecting 5* luxury for the price I’d paid.

This hotel was by far the dirtiest and most unfriendly hotel we have ever stayed in!
The room was in a bad state of repair and there was an open cesspit right outside our balcony, which gave off a horrible stink for the whole week we were there!
The breakfast consisted of dried rolls with margarine a travel kettle which was boiled first thing then just left so you can imagine it got luke warm pretty quickly. No cereals and if you were lucky you might get boiled eggs!
The staff were not particularly friendly or helpful and if anything actually quite rude.
We decided not to patronize the pool area (which looked dirty anyway) and used another pool around the corner where the staff were very friendly. Thankfully, there were plenty of places, which allowed use of the pool as long as you purchased drinks etc from themselves.
Be warned don’t stay at the THALIA!!!!!
