I made the mistake of reading the negative comments placed on here by others - and i would say to anyone going to the Thalia please take no notice of them, because it is a fantastic place to stay. Yes it is a little tired in places but after all it is a 2 star so what do people expect. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and maybe if people took time to chat to them or bother to ask their names they would have had a better expierience!!! Pefkos far exceeded any expectations with many bars and restaurants with lots of delicious food - and happy hour actually lasts for 3 hours.
If staying at the Thalia please make sure you book a ticket for Greek night on Fridays as the leader of the dance troop is something you should not miss - I will return one day, and will recomend the Thalia to all my friends as well as all reading this xxxx chris

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday staying at the Thalia. We were very apprehensive as we had read some really bad reviews on this accomodation.
However we should not have worried.

Yes it is very basic - but it was very clean with linen and towels being changed daily.

The self catering provision is extremely limited , so if you plan to spend your holiday cooking - this is not the place for you , and could possibly be a proplem if you have children. However if you are using your room just for a base, and somewhere to rest your head at the end of a long glourious day then you have no worries.
If you want 5 star accomodation - then pay for it!
All the staff were friendly and helpful - with a special mention of Magna who works as a receptionist and can lend her hand to most things - she even fixed our shower for us, before we returned to our room that day!!
The pool and bar area are very good. There is some entertainment in the form of a kareoke, quiz, and greek night - the later while worth doing, everybody has a great laugh and encouraged to learn some greek dancing!! The bar stays open well into the early hours of the morning - if required, but don't worry the music or any noise is kept under strict supervision.
The Thalia is very well situated, with very easy accsess to beaches, pubs and tavernas. Pefkos itself is a lovely place and i will definately be returning.
Buses run from Pefkos to various places - and you can get to Rhodes town for 5 euro each way - a lot cheaper than organized tours! Old Rhodes town is well worth a visit if you havn't done this before. Lindos is only a very short distance away and is also well worth a visit ( or more). There are some very trendy pubs and lovely places to eat on an evening.
Hope this review is helpful, and you enjoy your holiday as much as we did.

We had previously read the reviews for this particular hotel and so went with poor expectations. However having stayed at many other greek islands we were not at all disappointed with the hotel.
We payed a budget price and felt we received value for money. The hotel was slightly tired but had a warm welcome from staff and a good atmosphere. Breakfast was simple but adequate, the pool area was lovely and we enjoyed the quiz and greek nights at the bar.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and feel that a lot of the hotel's bad reviews were unjustified. If you are planning a visit, have a lovely time.

having recently returned from my first holiday abroad, my boyfriend and i stayed at the thalia hotel witch is located central in the town, of course like many i was worried about the holiday, when arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a member of staff who was very plesant and could not do enough to help, the room was basic but clean and sheets and towels were changed often, this is such a lovely place to visit and i can not see why people are slating this hotel as the atmosphere is relaxed warm and friendly, i think peole are expecting a 5* hotel for such little money, its a warm country and the drains are bound to smell, the pool was clean and lovely and the view of the sea was fantastic, there is also a bar there that serves food and drinks at a reasonable price, the hotel holds theme nights and you are made to feel part of the Thalia family, i would certainly recommend this hotel and may return again next year... My husband and myself holidayed at this so called Hotel this year as our 6th visit to Rhodes, which we love, but what a dump it was, the faults are too many to list, and i personally just want to forget this accomodation, don't be tempted to go there. We travelled with Olympic Holidays, flying with Monarch airlines, and i can't find a good word to say about either i am afraid, as far as i can see they are just money grabbing robbers, who wouldnt know honesty or value for money if it bit them on the bum.

I arrived at the Thalia full of concern as I had read a real mixture of reviews. My initial reaction was typical Greek self catering and that was about right.
Our room was quite basic but it was clean and adequately equipped. The apartments have a very pleasant pool area and a pool bar. The location is good. Close enough to the bars and restaurants but nothing right on top of you.
Pefkos itself is a lovely resort and the Thalia is well placed to enjoy what the resort has to offer. It is easy to get into Lindos for the evening and we spent a couple of great nights there.
It seems a shame that a couple of reviewers have opted to give this hotel one out of ten. I can only imagine that self catering in Greece wasn't for them. For a relaxing holiday and good base the Thalia did the job nicely for us.

May 2008, Mr S Carter

This was the second year me and my girlfriend visited the Thalia and both times we had a great time. All of the staff were helpful and very friendly and even recognised us after a year. This was the first time we had been on holiday with our 5 month old baby and were confident that the hotel and standards were good enough. All of the rooms are basic but what 2 star European hotels aren't, they contain all you need. The pool area is great and the picture in the brochure does it no justice, the pool bar will meet all your expectations and the food is good. The cleaner was in our room everyday and even though didn't speak English made a big effort to communicate in other ways. The only complaint is if you stay in the rooms facing the pool the music gets loud at night and continues into the early hours. We were hoping to book again this year (2008) but no places were left!!

I hate reading bad comments on the Thalia. We have been twice now and both times we have been made so welcome. It has such a wonderfully warm family feel. Sure the rooms could perhaps have a bit modernisation, but come on what do some of you guys want? The rooms are basic but the beds and linen are clean, the rooms are clean, the toilets and shower room is clean. Anything you want you only have to ask Nikos and you get.
Our last family stay was marred by family illness. I had to travel on my own with my daughter and my husband caught us up with our other daughter a few days later. Nikos was wonderful, he and his family kept an eye of us and nothing was too much of a bother to them.
The traditional Friday Greek nights are fab! Music, dancing and plenty of food for next to nothing. Theo who mans the bar every night and he's there until everyone has gone to bed. Theo is great fun and has seen our girls grow up from being very little into young ladies.
You get respect when you give respect and you get this at the Thalia!

DO NOT STAY AT THE THALIA HOTEL. I...

Oct 2007, Miss A Knight + S Bates

DO NOT STAY AT THE THALIA HOTEL. I have been to the Greek islands 4 times and every time has been fantastic until we came to the Thalia hotel. We have been to Rhodes before but stayed in Rhodes old town and it was fantastic but this hotel needs demolishing!
When we first arrived, we found that the patio door wouldn't shut or lock because the handle was hanging off! We told Nikos the man at reception and told us to wait until morning so we did because we were tired from the journey- this was fixed the next morning. We found the ceiling in the bathroom was collapsing and looked like it was going to fall down.
The toilet itself was half smashed with a huge hole on the side, the shower curtain wouldn't go round so there were leaks into the bedrooms because the door would not shut due to the handle, hanging off an there were holes in the walls where wires were hanging out.
There was a huge hole through the wall, so you could see through into the bathroom from the bedroom, the sheets were stained and dirty towels weren't collected or put in our rooms so we had to keep asking and we were refused all the time.
An incident happened were my boyfriend slipped on the wet floor and spilled water on the bed so when we took the bed sheets off there was a hole in the mattress and nasty stains. When we turned it over there were huge urine stains so when we asked for our mattress to be changed they refused saying that WE HAD URINATED THE BED!! We were disgusted by their rudeness and behaver towards us, the mattress was eventually changed.
This hotel is self catering and basic but I have never stayed in a worse hotel at the same rating.
As being self catering, the cold tap would not turn as it was to close to the wall, the cooker rings were old and rusty and all the cutlery was disgustingly dirty-all we had was 1 plate, 1 saucer, 1 folk, knife and spoon and just 2 glasses- this was apparently catering for 2 people for 2 weeks.
When we asked for a towel on the last day of our holiday the rude woman refused so rudely, telling us that once you have checked out, you are not part of this hotel!!
The staff certainly don't know how to run a hotel because they wouldn't have customers complaining about how disgusting and crap the rooms are. We weren't alone in this as at the time there were 13 people complaining, 2 were my parents who also had a crap room. They had to change rooms as the music was too loud and people where screaming and shouting, this went on till early hours of morning. When approached staff-they said they couldn't do anything and went off to sit at the bar drinking with them! The room they had before was ok but when changed to another they got worse. There were no electricity in the 2 socks, which when told staff, fixed it but the problem kept a rising. Their bathroom was mouldy and you could smell sewage all the time. Their fridge kept leaking and there were no cutlery supplied.
Overall without the hotel the holiday was lovely- we hired a car out and had a lovely time. Pefkos is a lovely town and we would come back to Rhodes again, maybe in the near future but overall I would never recommend this hotel.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from the Thalia... thank God!
It was by far the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. On our arrival we were amazed at the state of the room and the following day at the welcome meeting all thirteen new comers complained about the state of the hotel and demanded that an Olympic manager was present to address our issues.
To our horror the majority of the complaints were very similar. We could not believe that the manageress attempted to defend the hotel explaining to us all that there had never been any other complaints. We demanded a transfer and were told that there were no other hotels available on the Island, which was untrue after further investigations.
We were moved to another room the following day that was also appalling. The rooms were filthy dirty, our bathroom sink had no cold water, the bathroom ceiling was falling down, the shower hanging off the wall, the basin leaked and we had to put a saucepan under it to prevent water flooding the apartment. The place stank of sewerage, the towels were disgusting, soiled, and had holes in them and never changed during our week.
We were supposed to be self-catering, yet there wasn't a kettle, there was a severe lack of utensils and plates and dishes, which incidentally were once again filthy!
The electrics kept on tripping and the sockets were hanging off the wall. The balcony was tiny, when the air con was on you couldn't sit on the balcony as the ac unit was situated directly out side the door blowing warm air out on to you. The staff were not friendly at all, and this is the first time we have ever experienced bad Greek hospitality in twenty years.
The only bonus was the beautiful island and fantastic weather.
Rhodes and Pefkos is a fantastic place, we stayed there two years ago at a different hotel and had a fantastic time.

All the staff were very friendly and the hotel its self was quite nice.
The only let down was the awful cramped room and balcony. It was a room for two and as there were myself, my husband and four year old son, they had simply pushed over the two beds and squeezed a third one in.
The kitchen facilities were less than basic (half a wardrobe with a sink and two electric burners). The balcony was just about big enough for the small table and two chairs! The bathroom was so small you couldn’t open or close the door if you were on the loo!
It’s such a shame as I think the rooms let down the hotel.
