More Traveller Reviews of Mavrikos Aparthotel
not what i expected
from ath1995
Zante is my favourite destination among the ionian islands. I stay there nearly every summer for a few days in different places. Tsilivi is a wonderful place for young couples so my wife and i visit it every year. Last year we decided to stay in tsilivi for a week with our two little "treasures" .Unfortunately we tried to book an appartment late and could not find one in our favourite apart hotel(I will not mention it here for adv but if any want info i can give). Mavrikos Aparthotel was our last choice because all other aparthotels were full for the dates we wanted. They gave us an appartment we didn't like at all and when we asked to change they said they couldn't. Staff wasn't friendly at all. The hotel has two swimming pools. The adult one is ok but the small one for children is not safe.Parents must be close enough all the time to watch .There were too many Kids there in a very small pool which is pretty dangerous i think.Kids may hurt there while playing. We decided it was better for the kids to swim at the sea which is swallow and warm. I think this hotel was far too noisy for us.We couldn't sleep at night . The breakfast we had was below average. The appartment was clean at arrival but in a 2 star hotel you can't have the best service you can get. Finally i think that although this hotel is advertised for families it is surely below average and i would not recommend it. This must be your last choice if you want to stay in tsilivi.

myself and family have stayed at this accommodation twice and long to go back.. as being a travel agent i look for everything in a resort and accommodation whilst on holiday as i then have to sell it to a customer whichi have sold this accommodation and resort on several occasions and everyone has come back to book again for the following year. the staff at this accommoation are really friendly and the prices were good value also. the restaurant at the bottom of the road (on the corner opposite side of road) was excellent we ate there nearly every night. the only drawback with the resort is that the beach gets very crowded on sundays as the greeks invade it. there is plenty of activites for everyone in the resort and there is even a mini golf course. i will definately be returning here within the next 12 months
loved the mavrikos

We have just returned from our first time in Tsilivi and couldnt have picked a better place to stay than the Mavrikos. The hotel and appartments are spotlessly clean, the pool bar is the best place for breakfast for quality and price. Jean and Keith who run the bar are lovely and very friendly. We found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly, and it was a pleasure to see Mariannas smileing face behind the reception desk every day. I would definatley return to the Mavricos and will recommend it to all my friends. Thanks for a great holiday, Rosemarie and Mel Elcock
Wish I was still there!

I had never been to Greece before and was worried about what to expect as I had been warned that accommodation would probably be very basic. I was pleasantly suprised by the Mavrikos hotel/ apartments. We had a brand new bathroom suite with an enclosed shower cubicle, new kitchen and new bedroom furniture. It was very clean. We had our beds made every day and towels and sheets changed every couple of days. The only drawback was that the studio was pretty small and claustrophobic, although we had got used to that by the end of our two week stay. The pool was lovely and although there weren't that many sunbeds we always mamaged to find a couple each day. I can imagine that this would get harder in high season though. There is a charged for the air conditioning and we tried to get buy without it but that was impossible as it was just too hot. The staff on reception were very friendly and always happy to help. Tsilivi was a fairly lively resort with lots of families. We drove to the other resorts and felt that Tsilivi was the best- a good balance of livliness without it being too noisey. The Mavirkos is central to the resort, although it is a distance from the beach (walkable though). I would recommend that anyone who goes to Tsilivi eats at the Boathouse restaurant on the sea front. We found this restaurant towards the end of our holiday and were disappointed that we hadn't been sooner. The food was delicious and it was very inexpensive. Also, hire a car. Once you get used to the narrow and windy roads it is fantastic and the only way to really explore the island.
A Bad Experience!

I had an extrememly disappointing holiday at the Mavrikos in Oct 2005. Being a travel agent since 1991, I have constantly told customers how good this accommodation is and how wrong I was. Bbearing in mind that I have stayed in 1 and 2 star hotels and apartments all over Greece. Whether it was getting to the end of the season or there was an issue with cleaners we found this hotel pretty appalling cleanliness wise, our room was pretty dirty, the window glass had not be cleaned for ages, they provided us with a stained and dirty cot for our baby and public areas were pretty unclean too. The breakfast was re-heated and not fresh at all, the coffee was cheap and unappealing. There was a problem with stray cats which my three youngsters couldn't help touching and subsequently my kids were diagnosed with impetigo ( bacterial infection ) and ringworm on our return!!!! On a plus side Jean and Keith were fab although I cannot understand why people are raving on about the owner, he seemes totally unconcerned with us as guests and never once even bothered to say hello. Wouldn't go back to hotel although did love the people and Tsilivi. Thomsons dropped this accommodation from 2006 and onwards and I can totally see why!!
Ok

On arrival 3 of were crammed into a small room with 3 single beds pushed together...after some number of phone calls and speaking to the unhelpful receptionist, we were placed into a proper room. The hotel is very dated, and staff unfriendly. We sat up one night witha bottle of wine on our balcony and were threatened the next day by staff that we were too noisey and we should leave. We were not noisey at all, we were on a relaxing trip and we were simply enjoying conversation(No music) and the view from our balconey. The next night the guests accross the hall played loud music and banged doors to all hours..this continued throughout our stay. Us on the other hand were too afraid to step onto the balcony again, for fear of upsetting the staff again! We felt like prisoners and staff didnt speak to us at all for the rest of our stay, this ruined our holiday. Zante is amazing tho...definitly go back but not Mavrikos.
excellent hotel

we have visited zakynthos 6 times over a 8 year period but only stayed at Mavrikos Hotel on 2 occasions but we visited the hotel every day and night because of the excellent atmosphere if I could make that 4 hour flight again I would be there again in 2007 Tsilivi is a very friendly resort and there are some excellent restaurants
Lovely Hotel, Shame About Some of the Guests!

I stayed at the Hotel Mavirkos in June. Booked the holiday as a late deal the week before and paid the staggeringly cheap price of £119 each! We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel as we trudged down the drive pulling our cases. The pool was a decent size, the pool bar looked clean and the mainly british holiday makers were all laid in 95 degree heat with their factor 2 sun oil splashed all over their burnt red skin! We were greeted by the voice of the lovely Jean over the tanoy welcoming us the hotel. The room was bright, clean and airy and kept this way on a daily basis by the staff. The only problem was having to pay for the air conditioning. If we had paid full price for the hotel then we may have kicked up more of a fuss but handed over money willingly as the week we were there the temperature rose to over 100 degrees! The bar areas were clean and tidy and the service was excellent. We can not really fault the hotel and the service we recieved in Tsivili was excellent. It's just, well, very british! There were a few swedes, dutch and germans around but the St George flag was everywhere! There were pie shops, a cooked breakfast from a 'Real Yorkshire Lass' (was there a fake one somewhere?) and Peter Kay on big screen tv. The resort is very family orientated which meant there were kids running around the bar area of the hotel late at night whilst their parents were sitting getting drunk! Nothing wrong with that, they're on holiday after all, but if you have a room facing the bar area it could get pretty noisy at night. If you want to get away for a week this is a good, clean hotel to stay in and a friendly resort to visit but if you want to get away from "home" and some of the more "livelier" aspects of british society then try another resort or island where you might believe you're in Greece!
Definetly recommend

Had a great time in Mavrikos hotel. Rooms were perfect for what we needed. Cleaned almost every day, could have done with more towel changes though. Metal shutters on balcony doors were excellent for keeping the room cool, saved having to pay for air con. Pool was brilliant, nice size and waterfall was a nice touch. Pool bar was good for having a few beers and and they had a movie every night with popcorn. Didnt like the food at the bar however lots of brilliant restaurants in the town so wasnt really an issue. Only real problem with the hotel was the noise, no point having an early night cause the kids/drunken adults slamming doors till all hours will keep you up and then it started pretty early in the morning. However this didnt ruin our stay and if we go back we would definetly stay there again. Tsilivi was a fantastic resort, everyone was so friendly. There was so many nice restaurants, we didnt eat in the same restaurant twice. The crazy golf was excellent with 3 different courses, it was part of the Irish bar so the bar staff brought you drinks while you played and they did a great special offer on the cocktails. We hired a bike and travelled to the other resorts and they weren't as nice as Tsilivi. Your rep will probably try and sell you tours but we found the guys in the village much better (& much cheaper). Rep advertised a two day trip to Athens for €150pp in a hotel outside of the city, however we booked thru Cavo Grosso in the Village and got a hotel right in the city centre, with a pool & bar on the roof with a view of the Acropoli for €89pp. We also went on trips to Olympia, Keffalonia, Boat tour of the Island and a shopping trip to Zante town came free because we booked so many with them. We hired out a bike for two days and had a great time exploring the island. Askos Stone Park was absolutely fantastic!!! Its a natural wildlife park and they let you feed the animals, its tremendous fun!! Went to Callinko winery which is about ten minutes drive from Tsilivi, was really good. You can just walk in and wander round, then you get to try before you buy. Well worth a visit. All in all a fantastic place, lots to do and see!!!
2 star, what you see is what you get

Me and my partner were looking for a cheap last minute deal to Zante, we booked 2 weeks at the Mavrikos for around £300 each which, for the money, was very good. The Mavrikos is a 2 star accommodation, it has a clean medium size pool, nice little bar area and a good selection of sun loungers. Its close to some good bars and restaurants and the main centre of Tsilivi but set up a hill so still relatively secluded and away from the noise. The staff are friendly and assisted with any request no problem. The breakfast was ok, same every morning with a choice of beans, scrambled egg, toast and cereals etc, nothing special but very nice and again very clean. For the price we paid we did not expect anything special regarding the rooms, and what you get is a basic room with a balcony and an air conditioning unit which you can pay for at reception. The room was clean, beds were ok however our room was number 1 on the ground floor so no real view from the balcony. I would imagine the rooms round the back of the hotel would have a nice view of the sea and resort and probably worth requesting. Overall for the price the Mavrikos is worth it, however I do have 1 grumble. The hotel is very popular with families, probably due to the cost, and has good entertainment for children however late at night this can cause problem. Our room, and probably others to, was not very well sound insulated so kids running around the hotel slamming doors after midnight hours while there parents were at the bar drinking started to get quite annoying after 1 or 2 nights, if I were to go back to the Mavrikos I would definately request a room maybe on the top floor or nearer the back of hotel, apart from that the Mavrikos is an excellent choice for budget travellers and has a great atmosphere, you feel very comfortable the minute you arrive. And as for Tsilivi, dont go anywhere else in Greece, this place is brilliant and we will DEFINATELY be going back.
This is in my top 5 of best hotels i have been to in greece or spain in 30 years of holidays. Made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in and they just loved the kids. Rooms - cleaned every day along with fresh towels, all with a pleasant view i think and of a good... more
