Esperides Hotel Reviews
" Great Hotel - shame about the tour operator ! "
Submitted By: coriander
As I relied mainly on the comments of others when booking the Esperides I thought it only fair to provide my own rating on my return. Verdict : the hotel is not the most glamourous in the area at first appearance but it is undoubtedly one of the best for activities and entertainment. The first time I have wished we had stayed on for an additional week - there is a wealth of activities for children and adults alike . I took my 7 month old daughter and 3 year old son who had a whale of a time. The staff , including the mini club and animation team were superb - paying great attention to all guests. we don;t normally go for the daytime activities on offer but the team were very persuasive and not at all pushy and before we knew it we were playing water polo, volleyball and aerobics ! DS in the meantime was riding the carousel , tucking into popcorn , merrily painting or jumping on the bounct castle etc etc - the range of activities for children of all ages really is great! There was a wide variety of nationalities in the hotel which I felt was a bonus as there was no real majority and the entertainers were adept at ensuring everyone could understand what was going on. We were made aware on arrival that the season was only really beginning part way through our stay which did mean a few things had yet to get going - including playland and some of the beach bars - however this did not detract from our enjoyment and we all agreed that as the hotel was a bit quieter we had less of a bun fight for meals and my son was extra cared for in the mini club as they only had a 10th of the children normally present in peak season. The food was varied - and plenty of traditional greek dishes to try ! everyone was catered for - dieters - vegetarians - meat lovers etc etc ! The availability of food outside standard meal times was definately basic - with nothing available after dinner - but the bar was available 24 hours a day with no restrictions and likewise so was the ice cream - will definately go again !

just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks in this wonderful hotel we also got married in the chapel acroos the road! Food was great although a little repetitive towards the end of the holiday, if you have children i don`t think there is any better place you could take them, waterslides, mini theme park, cinema, 3 pools and great animation team kept my 10 year old twins entertained all day plus the unlimited ice cream and pizza ensured they always had something to eat. Watersports on the private beach are payable but well worth it! Rooms are cleaned to a high standard every day and the complex itself is kept immaculate. Our wedding was fantastic and the hotel staff really looked after us, we booked with cosmos and they were too wonderful, all in all it was the best holiday we have ever had.

Excellent rooms - very clean and comfortable. Good facilities include 2 astro turf tennis courts and 5 a side astro turf football pitch. Also mini waterpark with 2 slides and dodgem cars. The only downside was the food - spaghetti Bolognese every lunch and dinner and very little for small or fussy children.

Great hotel - slap bang on the beach with beautiful gardens leading down.
Great entertainment team will make you feel included in everything if you wish but are not pushy of you just want to chill in the sun.
Lovely pools, great waterslides - facilities for the children are excellent with bouncy castle, miniature houses, huge play areas, carousels, bumper cars etc. On the all inclusive package children have their own bar which serves popcorn candy floss & ice cream.
Fabulous food in the restaurants and taverna. Great drinks on all inclusive. Rooms large & the hotel really clean.
Superb - we wouldn't hesitate to go back!!

" We stayed at the Esperides Beach... "

We stayed at the Esperides Beach hotel last week of July 2007 for two weeks. Had a really good time. After reading the reviews for this hotel, many of them are our sentiments exactly, the only worse bit for us was the fact you had to get up at an unearthly hour to get a decent sunbed in the shade.
My husband got up as early at 5.30am and all the best sunbeds had gone. In the two weeks we only managed to get sunbeds once around the pool but we started to reserve ours on the beach but you could get to about 7am before all them went too.
Now onto the good bits, the hotel is in a fantastic location, bus stops on either side of the road one side goes to Rhodes town the other to Faliraki which is only 5 minutes away, Rhodes took about 25minutes. 5 Euros it cost for bus into Rhodes for 2 adults, 2 children.
And we took a taxi back and was charged 12 Euros which isn't bad at all. Front of the hotel looks very grand and impressive, lovely lobby and helpful reception staff. Little room with computers and internet connections should you have the need to contact home and MSN as my children did.
Our bedroom was a family room, two single beds pushed together and the children was in bunk beds. The beds were extremely comfortable. Lots of wardrobe space and drawers and lovely big bathroom. Maid service every day with clean sheets and towels that was nice. Nice also that the rooms had carpets in them, didn't hear the usual scrapes at 6am in the morning and balls being bounced on the ground.
Food was as we imagined if not better. Like all All Inclusive hotels the food does get very repetitive but it was well cooked. OK they did have spag bol on at each sitting but if it wasn't for that my daughter wouldn't have eaten anything on a couple of occasions she loves spag bol and it was really well cooked. Different types of pasta were on offer if you didn't want long spaghetti. Lovely cakes, ice creams on offer too.
We eat in the taverna restaurant opposite the big pool for breakfast and lunch. Same food in there as was being offered in large restaurant, a little bit less stressful and not as big queues.
The kid’s waterslides were perfect and kept them busy each day but we had a rather bossy lifeguard who stopped the kids from sliding down together and no lilos. They were frightened to even come down them for fear of him blowing his whistle. At 4pm candy floss and popcorn is served.
If you going to this hotel my recommendation is to get in the queue around 3.45pm do not let anybody get in front of you, take a book to read 15 mins soon goes. My first time I was in the queue in the sun waiting for a candy floss for my daughter an hour !!
Also some German children were told to stand in the queue and once they start serving all their family get up from their 'reserved' sunbeds and join them, on one occasion there must have been 10 of them.
The beach at the front of the hotel is rather shingly and you do need flip flops or beach shoes especially with the heat of the sand but is nice and not too overcrowded.
The snacks could have been more varied, every day they offered vegetarian rolls (salad barm cake) or cheese and ham wrapped in cling film and quite a dry Madeira cake, in the 2 weeks this never changed. Would have been nice for a bit of variety but saying that we were too full anyway from our main meals to have had any on a regular basis.
The animation team Jonnie and the gang worked tirelessly, tremendous shows I’ve not laughed so much in a long time. They all try their very best to entertain the guests. Some people can be so rude on these reviews it may not be their cup of tea but those people work in excess of 12 hours a day.
What I liked about the animation team was that it was their day off on a Thursday so on Wednesday night, our last night they stayed in the lounge area wishing people goodbye and all run alongside the coach when we were leaving they didn’t have to do that they could have all gone off in their taxis to Faliraki where they were going, but they stayed with us all until the coach had left which I thought was really nice.
I would go back to this hotel again and I was very impressed with it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody who was going - just remember to take an alarm clock with you and set it for 5am to reserve your sunbed though!

Fantastic hotel. Very clean with a variety of activities for children. The food is good although not much of a selection for fussy children.
Daytime entertainment was, I felt, aimed more at other nationalities although not hard to join in. Evening entertainment was ok, a couple of nights were great and the mini disco was good fun for the children.
On the downside, the hotels was full of Germans which was a bit overbearing sometimes and the weather was very very hot (factor 50 for children a must!) The water park was great however a bit unbearable in the heat as it is situated on a hill so there is a lot of walking and stair climbing involved.
Overall a good time was had by all.

Hi there.
Just returned from Rhodes at the Espidiries Hotel, in Kalithea. Absolutely brilliant time and couldn't have been made more welcome. Loads of Germans, Austrians and Italians there and were very rude about the sun beds but, you've heard and seen it all before. First week I was adamant I wasn't getting up at 6 am to get a sunbed but 2nd week I gave in and me and the other half took turns.
The hotel was first class, rooms were basic but very comfortable. My 2 children had bunk beds which were a bit hard but we all took turns. Lovely cold fridge and adequate newly fitted bathroom. Bit I liked was that the whole of the room had carpet which stopped the scraping noises at all hours and the walls, doors and patio doors were sound proofed so it was literally very quiet, we all slept very very well. Air conditioning unit very noisy but got used to it towards 2nd week. Was told on booking that they didn't have any sea view rooms left so we had to have garden view, which we were OK with but when we checked in we were on the side with a brilliant sea view and a garden view. We couldn't have asked for better views and even better the sun came onto our balcony from 3pm onwards just in case you wanted to come back for a peaceful hour on the balcony to top up your tan.
Food recommended, lovely air conditioned restaurant, yes it is a free for all, but after a couple of days we got a system going where one brought bread back, the other brought drinks etc. Then we got the foreign children pushing in in front of us but we basically tapped them on the shoulder and pointed them to the back of the queue. Breakfast round the poolside area was lovely and was a pleasant change from the restaurant but would recommend eating inside as they shut the doors dead on 10am so if your inside you are able to get that last cup of coffee and egg and bacon. Lovely fresh pancakes with chocolate sauce my kids have made me buy some in the UK and want me to make some for them at the weekend as a treat!!
Only down side for me and it is a small one was at 4pm - 6pm the hotel offers free candy floss and popcorn to the kids but after queuing an hour I gave up. My kids were disappointed but after a couple of days I played the foreigners at their own game, took my book and got in the queue at the bar from 3.45pm. 15mins soon went and I was near the front. The foreign kids queue up and then when they start serving their mum, dad, uncle, auntie, niece nephew suddenly descend in the queue and push in and they were getting 2 each which took time. It should be one per child that's it. Also found that children from other hotels were coming into the area from the beach with no wrist bands on and also queuing up for candy floss. A little more control would have been better.
The two waterslides and climbing wall were absolutely excellent and kept the kids occupied for hours, but we did have an over zealous body guard who loved walking in front of the ladies with his little tight red shorts on, pumped up muscles and a whistle in his mouth. He must have blown on the whistle a thousand times. He basically stopped the kids sliding down together and made them come down one at a time. It was very safe as long as your happy your kids can swim, I don't see what the problem was.
The beach was lovely but packed. Need to get down there by 6am to get sunbed and parasol. Nice taverna to the left of the hotel which did lovely ice cold beer (in glass) and hamburgers. Ate there around 3pm because we didn't feel very hungry after our big breakfast. Parasols and sunbeds are free to hotel paying guests and in other parts they charge 6 Euros for 2 suns and a parasol. The beach was clean with a couple of nice jetties ideal for fishing from but the sand was very very hot and very pebbly which didn't help. Would recommend you bring with you or buy some beach shoes the ones you use for diving you won't ever take them off. Lots of Water activities going on on the beach, kids went on a Crazy UFO which was 10 euros each and was pulled at fast speed with a speed board on a space ship thingy. Pedeloes are free but you have to be prepared to wait on the beach for when they come in as our foreign friends just push in.
The entertainment team was the best I have seen yet. Some of the shows were a little naff but just accept them for what they are and some where so funny we are still giggling about them now. What I liked about the team was that even when they were off duty they still larked out with people and picked the kids up and generally were concerned. The coach taking us back to the airport wasn't picking us up until 1am and the entertainment team waited an hour until coach arrived, wished everybody goodbye and then walked to the top of the road and waved and some did moonies to everybody's amazement. The main animator (forgot his name now reminded me of Eddie Izzard and spoke amazing English and other languages). Yes sometimes it got a bit tedious in having to wait whilst he spoke it in four other languages but he has a job to do.
The Amusements for the kids are good but as expected they are 1 euro each. Bit of a battle at night with the pool as German children think they can just walk in front of you and have their game despite us waiting 20 minutes but we put them in their place. Lovely area to drinks under a canopy opposite the beach which was lovely where we had coffee, cake and sandwiches from 4pm.
The supermarket on the ground floor was very good and very good value, not over inflated prices. Good thing was if you bought a lilo or blow up thingy they had a compressor and you could blow it up for free saving your lungs. The cigarettes in there for 200 was the same price as being offered at the airport and other supermarkets so they were very competitive. Sold baby food, milk, biscuits crisps, yoghurts, fruit shoots and other English branded food just in case you fancied a nibble or didn't like food there.
Overall better than expected although I do think First Choice could have promoted the hotel better in their brochure than they did. We met a young couple with two young children from Birmingham who told us at the welcome meeting that they stayed at the hotel same time last year, they were more than happy which was quite good to hear.
FIRST CLASS AND WOULD GO BACK AGAIN WITH NO HESITATION.

Advice: Its beautiful but didnt have much need to leave the hotel as it provided more than what we needed
Activities: Go on rhodes island bus tour. Very beautiful and cultural. Bring sunglasses and a hat in peak season
Good for: Beach
