My partner and I spent the first week of September at the Blue Sea Apartments in Katelios, it was a lovely holiday, the apartments are very basic and a bit dated, not a lot of room if you're going to cook in them (which we didn't!) but we found them very comfortable, very clean, towels and bed linen changed regularly, all staff very helpful (just don't smile much!) the owner is a typical greek man, very loud, very laid back, very dry sense of humour but very helpful and pleasant when you chat to him and he did a fantastic job of the weekly barbeque! The pool is great (& very deep!) plenty of sunbeds, never busy even though open to the public, a lovely, peaceful and relaxing holiday. Bonnie the Cosmos rep was great, told us all about Lapland!?! and Kefalonia! The island tour is a must, it was a lovely day out with Esme the guide who really knows her stuff.
The resort of Katelios is quite quiet, only two small supermarkets and a small gift shop, not commercialised at all (lets hope it stays that way!) with some lovely tavernas, all virtually on the beach, and only 5 minutes stroll from the appartments. Our favourite was Katelios Taverna, any time of day or evening, food all lovely, staff and service very good! Don't miss the water taxi to Scala or Poros, its great, that Captain Kosti is an adrenalin junkie so hold on tight!
All in all a fantastic holiday that went much too quick , so coming back next year same time, same place but for two weeks !

I was totally suprised by the beauty of Kefalonia. Had an excellent day trip around the island including wine tasting (at 9.30am great ice breaker!!), drogarati caves (a cave is a cave) Mellissani Lake (well worth a visit) and the breathtaking Mirtos beach (I actually shed a tear it was so beautiful!!), you will be very lucky if you have Esme as your guide she was funny and informative and really made the trip.
We saw an actual turtle in the fishing port at Argostoli, that made our holiday! Food was generally good, though because of the Euro not in our opinion good value. Captain Jerrys in Katelios was our favourite. Service could be a bit hit and miss in the area, but Captian Jerrys never let us down!
We unfortunately were dissapointed by the Blue Sea Apartments, they were very clean, but a bit on the shabby side. I really dont know how they can claim to be self catering, you need the patience of a saint and ingenuity of someone very ingenious to cook with those facilities - we gave up in the end! We failed to find a sense of humour in any of the staff, we only found Spiros, who I think was the owner, to be completely humourless on every count and actually quite agressive. We made sure this did not spoil what was otherwise a great holiday.
Cosmos were excellect, out return flight was delayed by 3 hours, usually a nightmare with kids involved, but Bonnie made sure we were all well looked after, and 3 hours flew by. Very sad to leave Kefalonia, but would not return to the Blue Sea Apartments.

Nice apartments, basic kitchen but there was a kettle and a toaster, we had a 1 bed apt, quite large and airy, double balcony, lovely pool, only thing I would say is no safety deposit box either in apartment or in reception, apartment cleaned every day, new towels and bedding every 3 or 4 days, cleaners excellent, resort very Greek still, very quiet and relaxing, good tavernas on the beach, the Music Bar on the beach was nice, as was the Katelios Taverna almost at the end of the row of tavernas on the beach, the best calamari we have ever tasted! Jerry's across the road from the apartments was also good as was the bakery just across the road, worth a vist to Poros on the local bus again very Greek but a few more shops than Katelios, the island tour was also very good, all in all a good holiday, we will definitely go back there.

The best thing about the blue sea apartments is the pool. It was lovely and we never had any problems getting a sun lounger. The rooms were tidy and cleaned every day. However they were the most basic I have ever stayed in. They are advertised as 3 star but they are definately no better than a 2 star. There were 3 adults in our room, one on a camp bed, yet we only had 2 cups, 2 plates and 2 bowls etc. It took until our second week and 3 requests before we were supplied with an extra set of everything. Even then we only had 3 of everything. The taps were a nightmare and sprayed everything in sight as the limescale was so bad. Our shower was ok, however it was easier to use the communal shower near the bar as there was ten times more water pressure, so I felt like I was on a camp site. Cooking in the room was difficult due to the lack of facilities, but was a necessity as the prices were sky high in the bar. Most annoyingly you are not allowed to eat or drink any food by the pool unless it is bought at the bar. I can understand this for visitors who do not stay in the apartments (the pool is open to the public too) but for the people in the self catering accomodation it is simply not fair. Our room was ten feet from the pool but we had to return to it to eat sandwiches or drink water etc. The only real contact we had with staff was with the bar maid who worked at least 12 hours a day so was quite harrassed. The male owner was unapproachable and shouted at kids for standing on the bridge over the pool, he didn't really make guests feel welcome. Had it not have been for the people we met on holiday this would have been a terrible experience. There is very little for young children to do in this resort and at this accomodation. Jerry's restaurant opposit was fab and the food excellant. Unfortunately though with the euro being so strong everything is very expensive.
Although this sounds like a great big moan, the pool and weather really did make up for a lot of the failures. It's just a big catch 22 situation, because everything is so expensive you are forced to eat and cook in the room, but those facilities are poor. To give you an idea as to how expensive this was, a 2 week holiday to Florida, including park entry would have cost the same as this place. We did book car hire too which is essential.
I hope this helps. Be prepared, take a bottle opener with you!

This is the most basic of self catering accommodation you can imagine. if you are thinking of cooking in the room, take travel items with you as it comes with just two plates, two cups, two desert spoons, two knives and one teaspoon. There was nothing to cook with, just 2 saucepans.
We had a few 'teething problems' with the room in the first 2 days and the 'owner' was begrudgingly 'helpful' saying her husband would sort things out. This was left to the barmaid in the end.
The rooms were clean and VERY basic. The cleaning staff are a credit to the apartments.
Katelios itself was a delight to stay in, we just wish that we had chosen different accommodation and were glad that we didnt have to cook there at all.
Jerrys Restaurant across the road, and the Lighthouse Restaurant were delightful. Good job!!!

Just returned from a fab week at the Blue Sea apartments, very clean, lovely pool although is very deep. Excellent location to tavernas and beach. A real get away from it all relaxing holiday. The beach at Katelios not the best but the pool makes up for it. Would highly recommend Island tour as scenery breathtaking especially Mertos Beach.

Just returned from a great holiday at Blue Sea, Katelios. Clean, functional if not a little small especially the balcony. Katelios was a small lovely resort with an adequate beach at St Barbara, make sure you visit the Dreams Beach Bar just tucked behind the beach for great food and a very welcoming atmosphere.

This was our 4th visit to Kefalonia and the 3rd year in a row to Katelios.
We arrived on 03/06/07 and stayed for 2 weeks to 17/06/07. Usually we stay in the apartments on the main street (Hercules and Medusa) but it was impossible to get booked this year and so we opted for Blue Sea, which is a short stroll up the not-too-steep hill.
Blue Sea has a beautiful clear pool with (but it is very deep). The Bar is clean and well stocked. The Bar man/Apartment Manager/24 hour security guard - has a very dry sense of humour and is laid back in the typical Greek manor - but if you ask him for anything he will get it for you - he actually made our holiday.
The Apartments are basic but spotless - the rooms are serviced daily with bed linen and towels changed every 2 days. The maids are very friendly.
Although Blue Sea is on the main road into Katelios village, traffic is minimal and the village is usually closed by mid-night - however that's not to say to can't have a late night session if that's what you want - the poor bar man will stay up as late as you like (even though he has to be up early next morning) as the bar is totally sound-proof and the nearby rooms are never disturbed.
The Apartments advertise a weekly Bar-B-Que - which when it happens(you have to persuade the Bar man as it’s a lot of work for him) is brilliant - the food is lovely and it’s a great opportunity to meet all the guests.
Across from the Blue Sea - is Jerry's Restaurant - the food is lovely and the staff friendly - nothing is ever too much trouble - they will do take-out for you - and "doggy bags" are nearly always standard - as the portions are massive (but very competitively priced).
Nemesis bar is next door - pool tables, Sky TV (for the sport of course), and games galore - useful to keep kids (of all ages!!) entertained - especially if the weather is a bit dodgy. (NB: The first week of June for the last 3 years has not had good weather-cold at night and this year it rained for nearly the whole week).
One of the best kept secrets in Katelios is "Dreams" - it’s a small taverna hidden off the St Barbara beach -if you find the Blue Sunbed umbrella’s and look up you'll find it - its small (about 8 tables) family run (the lady's English-her husband is Greek) the menu is small but cooked to perfection-nothing is rushed (but your told this up front)-but who cares when you just want to chill - I call it my "Shirley Valentine Bar" as you feel as if you’re the only one there - looking over the sparkling blue sea.
The nearby Beach bar is looking a bit tatty at the moment, but if you have a full moon - you could be in the Caribbean - a very romantic stop with a loved one.
Cozy Bar at the other end of the Katelios village -is the original and the best cocktail bar (several others have opened since we started going) the owner Pavlidis is very nice - not only did he remember us from previous years - he also remembered how I liked my cocktail (Spicy Bloody Mary) - he now does snacks as well (should see the ice creams)and his coffees (hot and cold) are brilliant.
There are about 8 tavernas and 4 bars in the main Katelios street and about 8 apartment bars as you go up the hill - this is more than enough and I hope they don't over develop any further as this will spoil it.
The Beach at Katelios isn't great (stony water)- but every year they try to improve it a little more.
The beach at St Barbara’s is better but small.
The hidden gem is the beach after St Barbara's - currently you can only access by climbing (mountain goat style) over rocks - you must be fit and watch out for the blue bag tags which lead the way - they can disappear when the tied comes in - or by car - head towards Skala and you will see a sign - this beach is sandy - shallow water and empty - there is only one beach shack at the moment but unfortunately I can see this changing in the future.
I love Katelios and this year everyone we met were repeat visitors - if you need a total chill-out holiday-no hassle-no "lucky lucky" shops- no pestering to come into the restaurants- this is the place and we will definitely be back.

We stayed in the Blue Sea apartments in Katelios. (Sept 2010). We found the apartment basic as per every other Greek Island we have visited (Corfu, Rhodes, Poros, Zante, Crete) but very clean and very well serviced throughout our stay - fresh towels every 3rd day, aprtment cleaned EVERY day, fresh bed linen 3 times during our 2 week stay. Kitchen facilities i.e. 2 rings, a toaster and a kettle were adequate for cooking a small snack or breakfast but with many excellent good value restaurants in the village you don't go on holiday to cook anyway! The swimming pool was excellent but it is quite deep and the shallow section is not very big. Eating out you are spoilt for choice but we found all of these excellent ,Jerry's Ellinko, Lighthouse Restaurant and Blue Sea restaurant (20% discount for residents in Blue Sea apartments). At the Blue Sea apartments Jenny in the bar in the afternoons & evenings was very friendly and ran a very good quiz following an excellent BBQ prepared by Jackie. Kefalonia is a beautiful island and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone wanting a quiet holiday in a sunny location. Katelios is quiet - restaurants and a few bars are the only nightlife and the backdrop of the mountains is really beautiful.
