This hotel looked fantastic in the brochure, golden beaches with beautiful palm trees blowing in the wind.
Unfortunately it did not live up to it ideal.
The beach was littered with plastic bottles and rubbish brushed to either side of the hotels beach section. Broken glass lined the shore line as though to keep you out of the water.
The hotel barely lived up to its star rating (4 Stars) the rooms were tired looking and in need of some care and attention. Although the reception area was attractive upon arrival.
Activities were few and far between and many children just ended up annoying their parents with their incessant moaning through lack of activities. The hotel was half full, so it seemed that the activities team didn’t need to do much apart from flirt with the one or two single women in the complex.
Generally however, the staff were friendly and attempted to engage in conversation with you. The no tipping policy of the hotel was only in force when the boss was watching. (We were asked many times for tips in quiet conversation).
First choice in particular were poor. We took this holiday as part of a twin centre with the Maldives (A fantastic place-see other review) the holiday was for 14 nights. 7 in Sri Lanka and 7 in the Maldives.
What we were not told at the time of booking is that we only had 6 nights in the Maldives as on the 7th we had to fly back to Sri Lanka to catch the plane back home. This would not have been an issue if there was not a first choice plane flying from Male in the same day 4 hours later after the 7th night. Upon complaining to the First Choice rep and filling in a complaint for and on our return following it up. We still have not heard anything a year on. So be wary of what you get on this twin centre.
Overall, a poor hotel, with average food and average facilities, the plus points were the staff and that the country outside the hotel is beautiful. NB A trip to the Elephant orphanage in Kandy is a must.
