I also read the posted notes prior to travelling to S.B.
We arrived and got a plesent surprise as the hotel was cool, clean and very welcoming. The rooms all had individual air con and were clean and well equiped.
In my opinion, either the hotel has undergone some major staff, food, menu, drinks, cleaning and prensentation changes since the negative comments were posted, or those people were expecting 5* accommodation for the price of 3* and were bitterly disapointed when they arrived. We however were not disapointed and are planning to return in Aug 2009.
I feel I must mention the near by beach, locally known as Cacao which was out of this world, with swimming pools, double beds and leather sofas all at your disposal whilst lapping up the sun (all 36 degrees of it).
Again the transport is on the door step along with many bars and resturants. The John Smith's bar did the nicest steak I have ever had! And all the locals are welcoming and speak reletively good English.
The hair dressers are cheap as are the gift shops supplying everything from Prada handbags to Gucci sunglasses.
I agree with the previous comment with regards to the cosmos rep not turning up on time. He was supposed to meet us in the hotel 24hrs after our arrival with local information and vouchers for meals and drinks along with advice on trips and excursions. 4 yes 4 days and 3 telephone calles later he arrived. No vouchers or trip advice as the dates for these were all at the beginning of the week, but then again this was a cosmos problem and nothing to do with the hotel.
The receptionist provides taxi rides into sunnybeach in the evening which was cheaper than local taxis and they gave us a good idea of things to do and places to go.
No pressure, no hassel and nothing like the comments posted from last years visitors.
We were really pleased with the location as the road traffic noise wasn't an issue at all and we were away ffrom all the drunks, vommit and squeeling youngsters so that we could relax and enjoy the week.
N.B
One of our cases was broken into which we didn't realse untill we got home. The pad lock had been removed and 200 cigarettes had been stolen along with a pair of expensive trainers. We immediatly called cosmos who said they would send a claims form out. We also contacted Greater Manchester police who said the incident more then likely happend at the bourgas end as once the luggage leaves your hand, it is then placed into a shed where it is easily accessible. Moral of storey do not keep any valuables in you cases and make sure you use a decent lock.
Otherwise enjoy Hotel Regatta, we certainly did and will be doing again next year.

i was in the regatta hotel during the early weeks in june, as mr mcdonough sed how can the people justify wot they are saying about the place as previously mentioned the hotel staff waited up for our arrival reopened the bar which in any other country or hotel would not of happened. our hotel was cleaned everyday fresh bedding and towels and a cursery area sweep picking up bottles and such off our balconey and sides. the hotel was a mere 15 minute walk into town centre which if truth be told anyone who goes on holiday could do with that little bit of excersise with all the eating and drinking that we do while were abroad.this obviously isnt suited to the elderly people . once in the resort center there loads to do shop drink eat and club this is the only holiday ive been on as im in the army and im always in iraq but this trip was so good its prompted a property inquiry off me and mates to buy a property over there, the hotel is brilliant the people are friendly the rooms are kept clean and most of all there a nude beach a mere hundred metres across the road with excellent eating facilties all round the area . wot do these people want who complain they must want 5 star conditions well i suggest next time they read the brochere properly and check its a 3star rating but any day id give it a 10 star rating absoloutley brilliant. any way id like to thank all the hotel staff and me mates nikki p tom mc james mc and the bean for giving me an experiance of a lifetime.

Having read all the reviews before my trip, I was slightly apprehensive, however knew to take these type of reviews with a pinch of salt.
Every holiday i have ever been on has had bad review after bad review, and in all honesty its becoming blatantly obvious that the only people bother to do the reviews are whining old codgers who have nothing better to do. None of the holidays I have been on have been remotley as bad as made out. Its understandable that if you have a negative experience you are more inclined to go out of your way to complain, after all it is expected that you are to have a good time! However I feel it is extremely unjust the reviews this hotel has received.
I feel I must go out of my way add a positive comment. There were 5 of us in total all in lads in our early 20's. Obviously we want a different experience in a holiday than a retired couple for example but all in all the hotel was fantastic.
The hotel staff awaited our arrival and were delighted to see us. We arrived at 2:00am and the bar was closed, but the staff were more than happy to reopen the bar and stay up with us to talk us through everything we needed to know about the area. The horror stories we heard about the area were also totally unjust. All in all the Bulgarian people were possibly the most friendly I have encountered in any of my holidays. You do have to have your wits about you, more so than in some places, but nothing more than common sense with behaviour and roads etc.
The food in the area varied. However in the main there were lots of great restaurants. Bars and nightlife are first class. I have visited all of the main 18-30's resorts, and I havnt had more fun than in Bulgaria. You neednt worry about Money - the most expensive beer i bought was imported branded beer and that was £3 in the main nightclub. During the day you can do anything you could do in Ibiza or faliraki or Magaluf and more.
The hotel was cleaned every day, it was a 20 minute walk from the resort centre but the nicest beach of them all is right on the hotel doorstep. If the walk is too far (we had fun on it every night) you can get a taxi for about £4 or a traditional gypsy horse and carriage for a similar price. Taxis are probably recommended for girls and older people but I would recommend that in England!
The staff at the hotel were the most polite and helpful i have ever encountered and nothing was too much trouble for them. A mention to ali and Koko and Didi who all made us very welcome and made our stay very enjoyable.
As long as common sense prevails, sunny beach is the best holiday you will have!
Oh and renting the golf buggies are highly recommended, as are the dunking donuts and chicken kebabs!

read reviews after booking this holiday and tried to change hotel but couldn't...... so glad! we had a great holiday. no one has mentioned the lovely beach across the road!! it is a superb beach with good eating places. the bus into town is regular (every 10 mins) and costs about 50p! what do these people want??? the hotel was clean and the road didn't bother us at all. the breakfast was good, fruit, croissants, eggs, toast, cerials, coffe, tea, not sure what people want! staff freindly. all in all a fab holiday. one negative..... the cosmos rep didn't turn up for the welcome meeting, didn't see him once! he missed out as we were planning a trip out one day! so dont go with cosmos. lovely quiet hotel with a nice pool and loungers 5 mins away from the busy centre.

As the last person said hotel was basic but clean. Asked for a sea view or a pool view. got neither, both on the same side at the front, we were put at the back next door's pool was the view.
Too far out of town and easy prey to the Gipsy's of which I saw too many times. Until the authority's do something about the thieving problem don't go.

Too far out of resort. You have to take a bus or taxi to central, as there was not anything to do near it.
Dangerous on the bus, my husband was robbed out of his bum bag and I had a gold ring stolen from hotel.
Taxis take a lot of your spending money away so I would rather stay in the centre of the resort. Sunny beach itself is very nice but common sense has to prevail as to what you take out with you.
Also ladies of the night are getting more popular there now and try to pick your pockets. So its men beware.
Would still go back again but more careful next time.

Hotel basic but clean, seemed to be run by youngster's (nice Kids but a little worrying). Too far out from Sentrum, buses a nightmare by the time they got to us they are so packed.
It was a thieves paradise and they made full use of it -I saw it with my own eyes. So many in our hotel had horror story's to tell. Police don't seem very interested, and until they do we will not be going back. My husband and his friend were propositioned in town, being disabled made him just that bit more vulnerable. The girls come up and put there arms around you, looking for your wallets.
We had a different experience in June we had a wonderful time in Sunny beach, staying at the Regina in the centre. I can only surmise that staying on the outskirts added to the problem. Authority's must do something about the thieves, it spoiled a lot of peoples holidays to my knowledge. My advice DONT GO!

I have just came back from staying at the Regatta Hotel in the Sunny Beach resort . I stayed at the Regatta hotel for one week. Me and my partner arrived at Regatta resort to find it was on a main road. There was a crossing so that was a good thing. When booking holiday I asked for sea view or pool view but we were given a side alley view.
The beds in the hotel were terrible it felt like lying on a hard bit of wood. They maids were good they were in every morning . The Food in the hotel was terrible, breakfast was the normal english breakfast which was ok , but I wouldn't touch the dinner with a barge pole. I had sickness and upset stomach for days.
The main town centre was about a 15 minute walk down the road which kept me fit I suppose. I would say the Regatta Hotel is just a basic hotel nothing special.

No self catering - no kitchen and no kettle. Smelly wardrobe and money getting stolen out of rooms. 20 mins walk away from centre. Horrible food, very basic.
My sea view was a hotel about 15 meters away, smelly bathrooms, dirty shower curtain, broken sunbeds and freezing pool.
Med hotels rep didn't have a clue what time we was getting picked up.

I had been to Bulgaria and to the same resort a year before staying at the hotel Regatta so knew what to expect of the area. However, we were bitterly disappointed with this hotel.
What the brochures do not tell you is that this hotel is situated right on the main road through Sunny Beach which is exceedingly busy all day and most of the night.
The swimming pool, although clean, is in front of the hotel and approximately 5 meters from the dirty, busy main road and in full view of all the motorists and passersby.
I cannot begin the explain how poor the 'International Buffet' was. There was a choice of maybe two main courses, usually some Kiev or bread crumbed offering, clearly straight from the freezer, accompanied by chips. No vegetarian options were available and when we asked the manger to provide fish or some sort of veggie dish, they promised but never delivered.
The food is so much better and very cheap in the local restaurants. Breakfast however was reasonable at the hotel.
The room was actually quite tastefully done and the little balcony (with view of dirt main road) was clean. The curtains were made from white thin material so we woke up when the sun came up. The bathroom was adequate although the shower was completely broken when we arrived. They did repair it the next day though.
As two females travelling together, we did not feel safe. Someone tried to get into our room in the middle of the night twice, luckily we had locked it. The med hotel's rep couldn't have cared less and the hotel didn't seem particularly bothered.
I have never had such a disappointing holiday ever. We are currently pursuing Medhotels for compensation. We paid three hundred and forty pounds for a holiday that was worth about half of this. If you chose to go to this area, Nessebar is a far more sensible choice.

have just returned from this hotel, was pleasantly surprised at how lovely the rooms were. Everything is kept very clean. No one spoke hardly any English, the staff were ignorant. We had three thunderstorms, got flooded - upto our knees in rain. 3 power cuts. on the night we were due to fly home, we were getting picked up at 1.45 in the morning so we stayed in the hotel bar IN THE DARK, we had to use our mobile phone lights to go to the toilet. A Bulgarian couple came and sat in the bar and the bar man got a candle, lit it and put it on their table !!! I asked the receptionist if she knew if the airport would be open because of the lighting and the fact that we were flying home that night and she said m-a-y-b-e tomorrow after l-u-n-c-h !!! wouldn't ring up and find out for us. Oh and this hotel is one and three quarter hours walk to the main town or 5 stops on the bus !!! Everywhere you go in sunny beach people try and rip you off, from the local buses to the cocktail bars. Never ever would i go again. Do not book half board at this hotel - you will not believe what you get - spaghetti still in the water it was boiled in, piece of chicken nugget, one plate of salad for everyone to share, apple or orange
