Just returned from a week in Benidorm at the Hotel Melia. This hotel is lovely, the pool is simply fabulous (although not very deep which is great for children). There were always plenty of sunbeds if you get out there early enough! The pool is definately the highlight of this hotel.
The rooms were spacious and airy although the walls are quite thin so you can here chairs being moved or people moving around above. The air conditioning works well and the room was cleaned to a high standard each evening. We never left anything of value in the safe as we'd read the reviews on here about the safes so thought best be safe than sorry (excuse the pun!).
We never went down to dinner in the evening as it was quite formal and we didn't take any formal clothes (gents must wear trousers and long sleeves) although there was a huge selection for breakfast and lunch.
On one evening we ordered room service for two cappuchino's, they told us 20 minutes but after 40 minutes they didn't arrive. Phoned again and they said another 20 minutes and they arrived 40 minutes later which isn't really what you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
There were not many English people at the hotel and I do have to say that I agree with some of the reviewers on here, the Spanish people seem to be treated better than the English.
I would definately go back to this hotel as it was lovely and even the coach driver told us we were staying in the best hotel in Benidorm on the way to the resort.

Beautiful Hotel, perfect location, fantastic pool, friendly staff, safe in rooms not working, left valuables with reception staff for main hotel safe - no problems. Room clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money
Had a little chuckle when i read earlier review about difficulty in finding free tables at dinner only to be moved - that did happen, but was not a big deal.
Highlight for me was the piano lounge in the fantastic lobby area for pleasant chill and pre dinner drinks.
Would definately recommend.

4* hotel located about 10 mins. Walk from beach. We found the staff very helpful and cheery.
It is an international hotel so don't expect burgers or chips every night. We found the food ok but it could have been warmer (there is a microwave oven which you can use) can't comment on entertainment as we went out on the town every night.
Benidorm is great for shopping' cigs. Are cheap and there's a market takes place twice a week. Weather was sunny but cool in the evening. This was our second time at the Melia and we would definitely return again.

WOW! What a bargain, we paid 20 a night for this hotel and we felt very posh. Rooms are gorge and very clean. The views are amazing. Have been h/b before and am quite a fussy eater when I'm not at home, but there was so much choice and the fish was to die for.
We went for the festival so there was 14 girls, we were the only group, is mainly for families and couples but they made us feel welcome. Conferences were on whilst we was there, so did have a lot of Spanish, and the cafe lady wasn't very good at English.
I will be going back with partner and child.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the Melia Benidorm in September 2007. We had a fantastic time at a fantastic hotel!
First impressions of the hotel are "WOW!!" The reception is beautiful - it’s almost like you are in a tropical rainforest not a hotel reception! Check in was fast and the English-speaking staff were very friendly. They even asked us which floor we wanted to stay on (there are 25 floors and we opted for one of the higher floors for the views).
The rooms are lovely and of a great size. Plenty of space in the wardrobe for all of our things (a lot lol). The safe is free of charge to use which I thought was excellent. The bathroom is also of a good size and was extremely clean as was the bedroom.
The balcony is of a good size and we had a brilliant view (all rooms are south-ward facing).
There is also a fridge in the room which is really handy! The TV has some English channels, I can never understand people who complain that there aren't enough English channels - who goes on holiday to watch TV?
The pool area is lovely - sort of lagoon style. The only problem though is there aren't a lot of beds - I would imagine this to be a complete nightmare in high season. Most of the beds have the mattresses which are great! The pool is lovely for a dip - nice and refreshing. There is a pool bar that serves nice food (hotdogs, burgers, etc.)
The food in the hotel is lovely - plenty of choice! We never went hungry! The breakfasts were brilliant really tasty! I have no complaints whatsoever about the food!
One problem in the restaurant however is that the staff didn’t notice that there were no tables left for us to sit at and as we went to sit in another section of the restaurant we were told we couldn’t sit there! So we sat in another area and were told we couldn’t sit there either! Only after we had explained there were no other tables were we allowed to eat!
Benidorm is fabulous - so much to do!! The beach is lovely and the old town is gorgeous!
The hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from shops, cafes, and bars. A longer walk will take you into the centre and the old town is about half an hour’s walk along the beachfront which is a nice walk. I would recommend Benidorm to everyone! The Melia is a fabulous place to stay. We have stayed at the Gran Bali Hotel at the other end of Benidorm too but we much preferred the Melia!
Thanks for reading - enjoy your holiday!!

One of the best holidays we have ever had. Can not fault anything about this hotel. Both the inside and pool areas of the hotel look tropical with the palm trees and plants, and were always spotless. The staff were friendly and very helpful and polite. The rooms were cleaned every day and the bed linen and towels were changed daily as well.
The restaurant had a wide variety of foods hot and cold and the waiters and waitresses done an excellent job of clearing and resetting tables as soon as they were empty, as well as serving diners with drinks. The hotel bar was great if you wanted a peaceful night and the staff were friendly and polite, and it was a short walk to get to the shops or restaurants and bars if you wanted to see some of the shows of which there was plenty.
Will have no hesitation in recommending the Melia to family and friends and will definitely be going back ourselves. SOON

When we arrived at this hotel we were pleased with the reception, they asked us what floor of the 23 we wanted and gave us what we asked for.
The rooms were tastefully decorated with smoked glass sliding wardrobes, fridge was free and so was safety deposit box.
The only down side to the hotel was the food, not exactly for the British palate, lots of veal, rabbit stew and snails. You had to queue up for breakfast and we ended up eating out most nights.

Wonderful hotel, breakfast buffet very good. Outstanding pool not too crowded managed to get secluded spot! Surprisingly quiet area, sea view from our balcony.
Taxis and buses right outside, water park within walking distance. Good restaurants and bars close by. Hotel staff very friendly, keep very high standards. Definitely go back.

Second visit to this hotel with my husband, my 2 year old son, and 6 month old daughter. Not as good as the first.
Restaurant staff have improved somewhat they were very helpful and much more cheerful than the previous time. It was the cafe staff that let the side down. We asked for two coffees to be told, "No milk - go downstairs and get one" - not the service you would expect from this kind of a hotel!
Have to say the room was a disappointment as well this time. It was dirty when we arrived. I don't like to see the previous holidaymaker’s hair shavings around the sink - not pleasant.
Unfortunately my 6 month old baby was sick on the bed sheets the day we arrived and the maid didn't change the sheets - it’s hard to clean up mess like this with no cleaning facilities.
I even took the covers off by the 5th day and threw them on the floor with the offending stains exposed but still they were put back on the bed and there they stayed until we went home!
On the up side the food was ok. Probably what you'd expect. It was even quite hot a few of the days - getting down early though.
Now for the best part of the holiday. - Moonlight cafe, Location: Ed. Gemelos 22, Local 18 (just 100 metres walk down from the Hotel next to a shop called "A little bit of everything). Best food in Benidorm.
We have been coming to Benidorm for years but have only just discovered this little place as it’s easy to miss. It boasts the best coffee in town - and it really is. It should boast the best breakfast as well. Proper English bacon. Nice big juicy steaks. Steak pie. It’s a family orientated place.
The proprietor called Jan is fabulous - my son is a fussy eater. She made him anything he wanted. She made us very welcome in fact when we got home he was asking for her! We spent most mealtimes and breakfast times in here even though we were half board at the hotel. If you stay at this hotel it would be a crime to walk past!
The hotel hasn't lost its charm it still has the wow factor when you walk in. It’s just the staff that let it down really. Will definitely go be going back to Benidorm.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday in April and it was one of the best holidays we have had! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the rooms were clean and spacious and the facilities were great. The staff did not speak much english which was a problem but all in all they seemed pleasant. The hotel is in walking distance from the beach and close to great wee pubs for a relaxing night out with some drinks.
I will definitely be returning here, not in April again though as it did rain a lot so perhaps during the summer when it will be warmer.
I would definitely recommend this hotel!

This hotel was recommended to us by friends and we were not disappointed.
It is a great 4* hotel in a great location. Staff, rooms and food were all fab.
We only paid £29 per person per night Half Board which turned out to be a real bargain. Hotel is not far from the beach and shops, bars etc.
Also has leisure facilities sauna, gym and Jacuzzi. We will be booking again for the summer, when it will be warmer.

My friend and I stayed at the Melia hotel and found the stay had everything you look for.
Terrific food with buffet and plenty to choose from all styles and cultures of food, excellent hospitality management, terrific lagoon style outdoor pool also with indoor pool & spa.
Beautifully furnished rooms with the latest style. Magnificent balcony views & very near all amenities.
Anyone will have a quality stay with a realistic price tag at this superb location.

From the minute we arrived, with our cases taken to our room by the porter to the time we left it was a first class experience. The food was plentiful and good, with very good service from the dining room staff. The bedroom was excellent and the pool area outside was unbelievable with thick comfortable mattresses on the sun beds, which were plentiful.

For £40 each for my daughter and I this was a bargain. We stayed for 4 nights (just about right to explore the area). Could not fault the hotel on anything! However, not for the young set at this time of year, but we wanted peace and quiet and that's what we got.
Two faults in our opinion:
One: you didn't get to see Spanish culture. Not the hotel's fault but for those Brits from the North of our fair Isle who cannot live without 'chips' - this has to be the holiday paradise of a lifetime...
Two: Our tour operator 'First Choice' confirmed that a bus would be available once our flight had landed. This was definitely not the case. £35 (yes, thirty five pounds) of taxi fare to get from Alicante airport to the hotel. And we got a discount of 5 euros because I was so angry - not the taxi drivers fault!
