Fantastic villa, would stay here again

We have just returned from a week at Villa Mares. I booked a last minute deal, 18 days before departure, through Cosmos, and was then a bit worried because I couldnt find any up to date reviews for this rental villa. I needent have worried. The other 2 reviews for this property are still current and valid.
The Villa is spotless, marble and limestone throughout, very large and spacious, the pool is large in comparison to other villas, and even larger than some of the hotel pools. The villa is well equipped.
The location is good, 4 beaches within 20 mins walk (or inlets, there isnt much sand on the local beaches, but they make up for this, they are beautiful, especially the one at Cala'n Forcat), there are a variety of bars and resteraunts, clubs etc within the same timescale, and a dozen supermarkets, car hire, bicycle hire, and the local bus stop to Cuitadella is about 7 mins walk away.
It is about 50 mins from the airport.
The area is the most english resort on the island, so you do have to travel further afield to experience some spanish feel depending on what you are looking for from your holiday. We didnt book a car, you dont really need to, but with hindsight I would book one if we stayed there again, to be able to visit more of the island, as public transport isnt great.
We went as a family, with a 5 and 3 year old.
I would happily book here again, although possibly a fortnight earlier, as by mid october, a lot of places are closing down.
It was our first time in a self catering villa, be aware that you do have to provide everything (inc loo rolls, washing up liq etc, I will be better prepared next time!)
Due to the strength of the euro, Menorca was expensive, it is well worth travelling to the larger supermarket just outside Cuitadella for your major shop.
We did have some problems early on with Cosmos themselves, but these were sorted out quickly and efficiently.
Its worth checking the basement though, we had a nosey and found there to be 'band equipment' in there on arrival, later that afternoon, an almighty racket came from below - someone was playing live guitar down there - I was not impressed - the rep sorted it out, I requested to be moved, but the villa they offered us was absolutely lovely, but just not as nice as Villa Mares, so we decided to stay put. The guitar player did not come back!
Oh, and the pool has a small safe childrens area, which is great for little ones.

Just returned from a week in Villa Mares - had an absolutely fantastic holiday. It was our first time in a villa so we were nervous but encouraged by the other review on this website we went ahead and booked.
The Villa is perfect for a family holiday. Safe, clean, quiet, well equipped. A real home from home. The facilities are excellent including a dishwasher and washing machine so we didn't bring back the usual case loads of washing to do which made our return home much easier.
We spent most of our days lounging around the pool which was clean and very large for a private pool. We spent hours floating around on lilos and boats!
The area itself is great - a real mix. We had a 12 year old with us so didn't go out every night but also took older "children" between 17 and 22 and they had a great time. A few minutes walk took them to a really busy area full of bars and clubs which didn't really liven up until after midnight which was great on the nights we all went out as we were not surrounded by loads of drunken youths but were able to leave the older ones out once we went in and know they were only five minutes or so away from us.
There are lots of supermarkets, cashpoints, gift shops and places to eat - all within minutes of the villa, yet once you return to the villa and close the (lockable) gate you were back to a really homely atmosphere. The villa has digital tv so you can watch many of the uk channels including bbc, itv and numerous other channels including sky news etc. There is a dvd player if you get bored which is unlikely.
The villa has all the equipment you need to feel at home so we only ate out once all week. Instead we spent money in the supermarket and cooked up some real feasts on the outside cooking area with BBQ, sink, table etc. Fresh baguettes cost less than a euro each at all the shops and they are made every few minutes so always really warm and tasty and really topped off all our meals and made great snacks.
Our only advice would be to watch your flight times and either try and keep the villa for longer on your last day if flying late or try and book into an appartment (e.g. Binimar across the road) for your last day so you're not hanging around waiting after you check out of the villa at 10am!
I would definitely recommend and almost certainly return!

We stayed at this villa for a week in...

We stayed at this villa for a week in June 2007. The villa is absolutely faultless. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms on the ground floor and 2 double bedrooms upstairs, although only one has a proper double bed; the other is 2 singles pushed together.
3 bathrooms, an outdoor kitchen area, laundry, television, complete with sky TV and cbeebies, much to my kids delight.
The villa is situated just off the main road and only a stone's throw from supermarkets and the resort centre. You can see the sea from the villa but it is about a 10 minute walk down a steep path and the beach is a small cove.
However, the pool is so amazing at this villa that we did not bother with the beach. The pool is large with steps down in the shallow end and it has a little paddling pool at the top. The deep end is about 6 feet deep. We took some cheap blow up toys for the kids but we bought more in the resort as they are cheap.
Paid about £5 for a little boat that gave hours of fun. There is space to park a car but we did not bother, just jumped in a taxi from the airport which cost 60 Euros about £40, the return was cheaper as it was daytime. The villa has everything that you could wish for and we dropped on a real bargain with somewhere 2 stay/cosmos about 3 weeks before departure.
It was actually cheaper booked with a travel agent than looking direct online, so beware; going direct through the internet is not always the cheapest. Fantastic villa can’t wait to return.
