Great Hotel
from guest_caroline
When we arrived at Dalaman we had a pleasant 1hr 45 min drive to Kalkan, but lovely scenic roads! Arrived at the hotel quite late in the evening to be still greeted by numerous staff bending over backwards to help us. We were given a quick tour of the hotel and swiftly shown to our room. The Hotel itself is lovely. We had a standard room and the air con was a god send. lovely balcony, great idea having two pools as they were never too busy! great, relaxed bar area which did perfect sized snack for lunch. Serkan and a chap whose name we couldn't pronounce who we nicknamed 'smiler' for obvious good reasons were so helpful, so friendly and just overall great guys - really adding to the feel of the hotel. Baris was a top quality manager, who was always on hand if you needed him but stayed quietly in the background so as not to interfere. The Hotel entertained us in the form of a Turkish Night purely for the hotel guests. This allowed us to eat delicious food, meet other hotel guests and dance the night away - turkish style - where all the staff joined in, right down to the housekeeper. Bobby, an English lady who worked inBarbaros Restaurant (the hotel's own roof top restaurant) was an absolute credit to the hotel. After living there for numerous years she was able to tell us the best places to visit - places to avoid and provided general knowledge of the local area. overall superb hotel, great staff, amazing food and will definitely be returning next year.......
Turkish Delight!

This was our first trip to Turkey, and we picked a winner. Hotel Nur was excellent value for money, is a small run family outfit with a few staff. They are on hand all the time to make you feel very welcome....and provide some useful Turkish lessons if need be! We ate around the pool and also upstairs, the food was lovely. With around 154 places to eat, you will have a vast amount of choice. We varied our choice and price range and have to say that we did not have one bad meal. The standard of food is very good, if you like your grub you will love it in Kalkan. This resort is mainly populated by couples, and has a really relaxed pleasant atmoshpere. Turkish people are very friendly, hospitable people who love to talk, we will certainly take home some very happy memories of our time there.
Fantastic Hotel, Beautiful Town
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a week in Kalkan staying at the Nur Hotel and must say that it was a wonderful place, and that for the first time ever we have said that we would return to this hotel. The transfer from Dalaman airport was about 1 hr and 45 minutes long but was through the beautiful mountain countryside in a taxi by ourselves, which was nice as no-one is keen on the never ending 'drop offs' of other guests. On arriving at Nur we were both welcomed by Baris, the owner and the other staff and immediately felt welcome. The Hotel is very modern for a town which is up and coming and although the rooms are basic, they are comfortable and clean. The two pools were fantastic, lots of space for the guests to relax by. The newly opened terrace restaurant was great, we had experienced other eateries near by, but the cosmopolitan feel, views and fantastic food was a cut above everything else on offer, which is why we ate there 4 times on our holiday. All the staff were friendly and on hand with anything you wanted, which really made the difference. I would recommend the hotel and town to couples more than families due to the laid back nature and couple orientation of what is on offer. There are a few bars although plenty of restaurants, which is perfect for a relaxing couples' holiday. The boat trip the hotel organised was beautiful and Captain George was entertaining and very friendly. The town itself was picturesque and was a breath of fresh air in the fact that the shop owners were not threatening, and let you browse the goods but were on hand if you needed any help. The goods and food here is still very cheap, we picked up some fantastic bargains! One problem with the area though was mosquitos. On our first night i got bitten all over my legs, although we had a room odouriser and spray brought with us from England, it just wasn't strong enough at first to drive them away. All the women who were staying there at the same time got bitten on their first night too, although the bites did clear up in a few days using local remedies. If you are going here i would recommend you buy the local repellant ASAP and use it constantly - it is very cheap. However this should not put you off, as it was a beautiful and lovely place to visit for a holiday in Turkey.
Nur and Kalkan
from Redweb
We booked a 2 week trip at the Nur, a pleasant 2 star hotel up the hill in Kalkan and despite very tired bathrooms in the hotel and showers that are best not mentioned, we did get what we paid for. We could not quite see what makes guests keep returning but it was friendly enough and with a very personable owner, sometimes a little overbearing but always on the ball. We were more disappointed with Kalkan however, some may think it quaint but a lot of rubbish and building work which all needs a good clean up to match the much tidier Kas nearby.
A Fantastic Choice
from CarolineinHenley
We loved the Nur Hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home and when we left we felt we were leaving behind old friends. Baris and his staff were amazing, always happy to go the extra mile to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. They were always to hand if we needed anything. The accomodation, although quite basic, was clean and comfortable and a 1 bedroomed apartment was a good choice for us because it was spacious and airy. The communal areas of the hotel have a modern, comfortable feel and are very well maintained as are the 2 pools and the areas around them. This season the Nur has opened it's a la carte restaurant on the covered roof terrace with views over Kalkan. The decor is modern with lovely finishing touches to give it a calming ambiance and a cosmopolitan feel. The international menu is varied and enticing and the quality of everything that we tried over 2 visits was superb. We were very pleased with the prices too. The restaurant is open to non-residents so we can recommend it even if you are not staying at the Nur. Kalkan itself is a beautiful place with lovely people and we are already looking forward to our next visit.
Kalkan was out of this world!
from cw1972
We visited Kalkan this year on recommendation from others and can say we were impressed. We have previously been in Olu Deniz, Hisaronu and Fethiye and loved them all but Kalkan was a step above. The transfer was about 1 hour 45 with a stop hlaf way and we arived at the Nur Hotel. Baris the manager was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were basic to say the least but sufficient for our needs. The apartments at the Nur however seem much better and with the choice of two pools the hotel was more than adequate. The location is also ideal only a five minute walk downhill into the village and not too far back up on the way back. It is also one minutes walk from the market on a Thursday as well as two mins from the nearest supermarket. The resort however is the real reasn for a fantastic time. Stunning choice of resteraunts to suit all tastes. Add to that a variety of bars excellent shops and fantastic people in a fabulous setting with excellent weather then you cant ask for much more........ i would however recommend as good a mossie repellent as you can buy tho!! Best bars were Yali and Moonlight and Clio's and for food Paprika and Kosk were superb however Gironda was another level above that!
Not sure about the welcome...
from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Nur itself quite pleasant, not too far up the hill and two pools to choose from. Unfortunately you will only be welcome here if you want to spend your time by the pool and bar, as the management appear more interested in the amount of time (and money) you spend with them rather than your enjoyment of your holiday. Kalkan itself was all we had hoped for. Very much a couples resort, very picturesque and an ideal base for boat trips along the coast.
Must stay at the Nur to appreciate the facilities and attentive staff

This is only our second visit to the NUR hotel but we have stayed in Kalkan about 20 times beforehand. The NUR has recently been refurbished and we were upgraded to a suite which was an asset to have so much more space to accommodate all the things we brought in from England. Baris, the owner is always close at hand should you need him and he has a good cross section of staff who always seem to be 'just round the corner' when they are needed. The tarrif for food and drink is on a par with the very many bars and restaurants in the area and so there is no need to have to leave the pool at lunch time to seek out food in the town. This indeed was an asset as we are 'sun' people and dont like having to 'up and go' at lunch times. Truly worth a visit to appreciate the NUR. Pat and Joe Stackhouse. West Midlands.
Our first visit to Turkey.
from A TripAdvisor Member
Our first visit to Turkey. Having spent our holidays for the past 20 odd years in the Greek Islands, Cyprus and the South of France, we decided to go to Turkey (based on reports from the press and friends). We picked Kalkan and from the many hotels featured in the various travel broachers, selected the Nur Hotel. Our holiday was without doubt the best one we have had! The Hotel The Nur Hotel – situated at the top of the main road, about 200 metres from the main shopping area/restaurants etc. A well-positioned hotel, very clean, fantastic views from the balconies, two excellent, well maintained and clean swimming pools surrounded by hardwood sun beds and large parasols, suitable safety instructions, a bar and tables for either snacks during the day or for the excellent evening meals served every night and filled to capacity for the weekly “Turkish Night”. The staff, from Barish the owner to Ali the handy man were unbelievable – nothing was too much trouble for any of them – we have never known anything like it. We have to say the same about the guests, in fact, most had been returning to the Nur for several years, these gave us lots of tips for the markets, what to look for, how to barter and what were the best trips to go on as well as a run down on the various restaurants. When you get onto the topic of eating out, you will have a problem! The quality of the food, its presentation and price are almost to good to be true – we ate in the hotel 4 or 5 times and in a different restaurant every other night, each time we thought we had found the best one only for it to be equalled if not bettered in the next one. All our meals, in Kalkan or even in the mountain villages during the trips we went on were of the same quality – fantastic! Thinking about our experience and trying to detail all the enjoyable moments would take several pages – it’s far easier to just say that we will be returning to Turkey, to Kalkan, the Nur hotel, the guests (old and new) and the locals who, between them all made our holiday one that we will always remember. A little piece of Turkish Magic!
from Jerry2007
The Nur is an excellent hotel, very clean with excellent staff. Barish the owner will do all he can to help make your stay an enjoyable one. You can book direct which can save you a fortune! The position is also very good, only a short stroll into the village. Kalkan itself is a fantastic place, forget Icelemer, Marmaris, Hisarnou etc, etc, (unless you want football shirts and the like!) Kalkan is small and sophisticated, fantastic restaurants with views over the bay, wonderfully friendly locals, excellent trips and much, much more. What more can I say? GO!

Where do I start?! We arrived 8 oclock in the morning to be welcomed by a member of staff who showed us to our room. The room is not at all what the advertisement suggests and in fact are much, smaller, less clean rooms and that's not to mention the size of bathroom. The... more
