We recommend this very friendly hotel. The Staff and Baris couldn't do enough for you. The only down point is the hill coming back up from the front. Other than that the town is very pretty and the people are so friendly. The food was out of this world. Lots of restaurants to choose from.We booked and travelled independently. Our rooms were clean and very comfortable. We had a suite and the extra space was really worth it. We would Highly recommend it.

Dont hesitate to book this hotel direct the owner Baris does everything he can to make your stay in Kalkan memorable.
The rooms do vary and if you have booked with Thompson expect basic as they only pay the hotel £4 per person per day and it is up to you to upgrade when you get there.
The upgrade is worth it as you gain 2 balconies an extra lounge, fridge and air conditioning. It is a small hotel and therefore easy to mix or remain anonymous whatever your choice.
It is by far in one of the best situations in Kalkan as the hill is a killer but the Nur is half way to everywhere. A couple of beers on the way back from the harbour or beach and all is forgotten.
Kalkan is beautiful and friendly, the mosques highlight your place within a community and the sea the most clear I have ever seen. Do go on the boat trip which Baris organises for hotel guests it is well priced, comfortable and anchors off some wonderful beaches and bays.
The downside was Thomson....on the flight over the airline staff were at best neutral in their approach and at best down right rude. I dont appreciate being served by a guy whose neck was covered in love bites and to be sent down the wrong aisle to my seat and then to be told I did nt listen to the instruction. The food is inedible we only booked this due to the timing of the flights but be warned it is truly disgusting and I am sure was the sole factor in a week long bad stomach on my return. The rep at the report lied about the accessibility of the trips stating that if we did not book with her we would not be able to go with anyone else at another time that week. Funnily enough on getting into the town the trip was cheaper and ran at least 4 times a week with local companies. When we decided not to take up her option her attitude immediately changed and fortunately that was the last we saw of her.
My advice go to Kalkan for excellent food, beautiful scenery, welcomming people, good shopping (we were even offered water in the bank in which we were changing money). Go to the Nur for a small and friendly hotel whose rooms are sufficient and improving, situated in a good position with lovely honest staff and a view to die for at breakfast.
Dont go with Thomson they clearly dont care about their standards of service or their customers.

What a beautiful hotel. Baris the owner is so welcoming our daughter has a fruit allergy and uses an epi pen- we explained this to Baris and he taught us how to speak this in Turkish so we could ask for no fruit in our meals.
There are 2 pools in the hotel the upstairs one is a lot warmer as the sun is on it all day.
Whilst we were there my husband was 50, there were 18 us of us in our party who went to celebrate his birthday and Baris arranged for us to go on a boat trip and a Turkish night when we got back to the hotel. When we returned to the hotel the bar area had been decorated with banners and balloons.
The hotel is very clean and practical the food is good the portions were huge!
Did not want to come home from this hotel Baris or a member of his staff are available 24 hours a day and Baris lives in the hotel so is there if needed.
Would recommend this to couples who want a lovely relaxed holiday it is not suitable for little children as there is no kids club you can also go if you are single as everyone sits round the bar at night and mixes so it is nice if your other half wants to go to bed early as it is a small hotel you can mingle with the other friendly guests.

We stayed here in Sept '07 booking a package with Thomson.
The hotel may be basic - options are available to upgrade, but it is clean, friendly and completely relaxing!
Kalkan certainly isn't the 'real' Turkey- it's is much more cosmopolitan than other resorts we have stayed in - Side, Hisarou, Altinkium. If a first timer to Turkey I would recommend Kalkan.
It is beautiful- You have the option to try everything from local cuisine to a la carte or modern European, at prices to suit all.
There are also many excursions to go on that sample 'Turkey at its best', the Nur hotels Saturday boat trip is wonderful. So is the Saklient Gorge, with the 'floating' restaurants and the jeep safari.
The guys & girls at the Nur work so hard to make your stay enjoyable & Baris the manager, is a lovely chap - great on the 'bongos'.
If you are looking for an 18-30, 24-7 drink & club fest then go to Marmaris. But if you crave tranquillity amongst lovely surroundings, and welcome the opportunity to meet new friends, share a laugh & Bira then this is the place to go.
We are taking my parents back with us to Kalkan next year and hope the Nur isn't booked up, as they get repeat visitors year after year after year.

Where do I start?!
We arrived 8 oclock in the morning to be welcomed by a member of staff who showed us to our room. The room is not at all what the advertisement suggests and in fact are much, smaller, less clean rooms and that's not to mention the size of bathroom. The first few days at Nur, even though not what we had expected, was to be fair pretty enjoyable. We didn't find the staff to be overly friendly however they were in no way unpleasant, that is until our third day when we went to use their 'second pool' as advertised. We were ushered away immediately by one of the staff back to the 'only pool' back at the front of the hotel where we were confronted by Baris. He began to explain to us it is no longer their pool and were not allowed to use it. We accepted but insisted it was not what was advertised on their website. If we had known this comment would have initiated the following discussion we would have just walked away with our mouths kept shut. What followed was an inexcusable, disgusting and unfortunate experience. Baris continued to shout in our faces about how he has serious issues with the current owner of the pool, whilst he held an ash tray up in the air imitating what he would like to do with it and how dare we question him about the pool. Interestingly he switched from 'It does not way say we have two pools' to 'the website has not been updated', in which case would surely still be his fault, not ours to ensure the website is up to date for people who are booking holidays at his hotel. He then suggested we formerly make our complaints and leave, which of course made me and my partner feel very upset, angry and confused. Baris decided that we were being unreasonable even though we could not get a word in edge ways whilst he aggressively shouted in our faces whilst accusing us of being so "rude" because of his lack of English and suggested we try and attempt Turkish. Seeing that he was quite literally crazy and completely irrational we decided to just walk away from it.
I do not class myself as an emotional person at all however the way I had bee treated by this man was so awful that I burst in to tears, seeing this Baris decided to write me a letter of apology and doing little things here and there to make up for the situation. However we were not going to accept his previous intimidating behaviour and decided to contact out holiday rep to be transferred. as soon as we told the lady what had happened, she knew exactly who we were talking about and said it had not been the first time, at that point we knew he either had a split personality or really had no clue about the business he was in. We were moved the very next day to a hotel further away, which was absolutely perfect where the owner and staff could not do any more for s, which we only wished we had got from Nur. To top off the whole experience, being the mature man that Baris is, he clapped us out as we left the hotel...what can I say, what a lovely man.
Looking at the majority of the reviews it seems we may have had a rare, unfortunate experience, however I would suggest you don't risk it, Kalkan is so beautiful and full of fabulous hotels you might as well get a sure deal and go somewhere else.
