We have just returned from Pica Pau after a lovely relaxing holiday. The villa was clean, spacious and well equipped. The pool was lovely if not a bit cold, however due to the large number of steps down to the pool I would not recommend this villa to families with very small children or toddlers as the steep steps were very slippery when wet. The villa is also very remote, with a drive to the nearest beach a good hour away and the nearest large town a drive of 45 mins which with two small children became rather tedious. The Thomson brochure stated that the villa had air conditioning but it doesen't, however the owner did supply a large fan for the children's room the day we arrived. The rep from Thomsons was excellent with a vast knowledge of not only Monchique but the whole of Portugal. He recommended many places for us to visit and did not pressure us to book any organised trips. Just one tip - if you arrive on a Sunday the shops in Monchique are all closed, so basic provisions need to be bought from a supermarket - the nearest one open on a Sunday is in Silves which is on the way to Monchique from the Airport. Enjoy your holiday!

We loved the villa, the location, the pool, the views and that lovely smell... is it eucalyptus, gum cistus? Our 7 year old loved it too but then he's not a telly/computer addict. We visited some of the beaches on the west coast which is well worth a visit.
The brochure says that there are two double rooms and one twin, but the room with en suite is a twin and the beds rather small and uncomfortable for adults and I'm sure the pillows were filled with golf balls!! Lack of sleep aside yes it was quite remote and far from the madding crowd. Perfect, we loved every minute. Shhhhh don't tell everyone!!
