it so beautiful in Slano and the osmine hotel is located overlooking a fantastic quiet bay with sail boats gently sailing by. The restaurants are very good, the staff of them and of the osmine hotel are so friendly and the sun nevers stops shining. Its so convenient to Dubrovnik and the village has such a feel of a small unspoilt place to live and visit. The view from the Osmine Hotel is second to none yet feels so secluded and private. We always enjoy our time there and we would highly recommend it.

If you are looking for the equivalent of Tito's car workers' holiday camp then this is the place for you. Nestling on the outskirts of Slano Bay, the hotel is a complete copy of the Thunderbirds Tracey Island residence and appears to have been built shortly after the programme was released.
For a 1 week stay, prepare to park your brains at the entrance, then this is perfect destination for you. If you are looking for culture, mental stimulation and a chance to gain an understanding of the Croatian lifestyle then don't come here, especially don't come for 2 weeks.
The hotel has around 350 beds and 20 of them were probably occupied by the Brits. I am not saying that I wish to be surrounded by fellow countrymen but 2 weeks of Croatian/German/French staring, especially in the dining hall, does wear a little thin.
The British are clearly viewed as 2nd class citizens, initially we and 1 other Cosmos family were given rear facing rooms in the lower annexe upon arrival and eventually offered side view accommodation after much haggling.
However, there was the advantage of not having to face the 120 steps to reach the dining hall or to get to the so called beach each day. On the subject of the beach if you are happy to sit 18 inches from your staring European guests then prepare to get up early to reserve a worn plastic, sometimes broken sun lounger. The option of sitting in shade further from the man made beach means that you will find yourself in the firing line of volleyball contests, basket ball matches and the obligatory ear deafening aerobics classes.
There is team exercise should you wish to partake or tennis if preferred. This is good for calorie burning as you could be filling your face with large quantities of buffet food, all prepared to a reasonable standard but repeated constantly. The cake cubes were a tasteless disappointment.
The reception staff were pleasant and managed a smile but the catering/bar staff were very unwelcoming. Similarly the staff throughout Slano and Dubrovnik would have preferred not to have served English customers and did there best to either ignore or be very short with us on every occasion.
I concluded that the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the partition by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, 2 World Wars, the Communist Tito regime and finally the "Homeland" war had left deep scars on the Croatian psyche. Joy of living was not something that the Croats or more specifically the Hotel Osmine is yet ready to embrace!

A most enjoyable holiday in a beautiful country. The hotel was well situated for the type of holiday we wanted - chill out! The staff were very helpful and courteous especially when we wanted to change our room.
The facilities were as we wanted, we played tennis most days with 2 of the animation staff who were fun, we cycled on the bikes provided to Slano, played table tennis and drifted around the bay on pedalos. There was a variety of food provided, always a decent salad selection and 4 hot dishes of fish, meat or vegetarian for lunch & dinner. The views over the bay were stunning and the boat trip to Lopud & Shipan was excellent value.
We have noted in the other reviews the many steps and that didn't bother us much although there were times when after a strenuous tennis set or after eating a bit too much we wished there was an escalator! We will return to the country and have no hesitation returning to the hotel.

As per other comments, the steps are not to be underestimated! Notwithstanding this the overall package was excellent. Food was superb, as long as you are adventurous, and the wine was certainly drinkable.
Local drinks do not include Slivovitz, which, as this is the Dalmatian speciality, I found hard to understand. The staff were all good, some better than others, and bearing in mind the problems that the country has endured in the past I believe that the total package offered will go from strength to strength.
Local area is very, very quiet, unspoilt and I imagine similar to the Greek Islands some 20-30 years ago (pre Brits On Tour days).
If there is a negative it is entertainment, apart from one night of Folklore, was pretty dismal to be honest.

Having just returned from a relaxing week at Hotel Osmine I wanted to add some updates to comments made in previous reviews.
The view from the hotel is wonderful and the quiet position at the end of a small village frees it from passing traffic and other holiday makers. The hotel is well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful.
The all inclusive features are available as listed and in good quantity and condition.
The steps from the hotel to the restaurant and then to the beach, mentioned by others, can be circumvented by a rather steep path. The steepness of the hotel grounds enhances the vista.
The costal footpath to the village of Slano and beyond now has a good flat surface and is now illuminated by street lamps and makes a pleasant evening walk or cycle ride.
The stay can make you feel isolated as Slano is a 35min walk away and has very few facilities. Local buses run fairly often but an accurate time table at the hotel would have been useful. The very small information centre at Slano gave us a time table that was not inline with the actual bus times and did not differentiate between the different companies that run buses on the route.
The food was of good quality, simple but very repetitive. If you like salad, cake cubes and melon then this is the place for you.
A young team of 'Animators' engaged the younger visitors with Miniclub and in the evenings provided entertainment by the pool.
Each evening had entertainment including an hour of sketches, a folk group with singers and dancers made up of people from the local community, a duo with keyboard & guitar etc.
The beach was cleaned up early each morning and the loaned facilities were provided efficiently. The naturist area that may have been there some years ago seems to no longer exist.
In all a very pleasant relaxing holiday suitable for a one week say. For us, any longer than that would require a wider range of activities in the local area and a wider choice of meals.
The service provide by Cosmos was fine but not on the scale of other operators at the hotel. Cosmos information was limited to a reps meeting, a slim folder and a phone contact. The plentiful range of information from non-English tour operators was an indication of the small number of English speaking guests that make bookings.

Picturesque location on hillside overlooking enclosed bay.
Large modern superior room, en suite + balcony - advise this rather than standard room.
BUT 110 steps down from reception to dining room and further steps to pool and shingle beach.
Reasonable food, buffet so plenty of it, good fish BUT terrible wine.
Plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas, bicycles and enough pedallo/ canoe/ windsurf
Very limited entertainment.

Excellent hotel if you want a fairly quiet relaxing holiday. Very peaceful location in a bay some way from the quiet Slano village. No noisy night clubs anywhere near. Don’t go to Hotel Osmine if you want night life - if you don't it is ideal.
The 'all-inclusive' meant just that, all meals, local wines, beer, minerals, tea, coffee etc, available all day. Canoes, pedaloes, bicycles, tennis and other sports (+ keep fit and aerobics) included.
Meals buffet style so can eat as much or as little as you want. No hanging about waiting between courses. Restaurant very clean. Choice of several main dishes at each meal, not wonderful but varied and quite satisfactory.
The only drawback (for some) might be the 100+ stairs between the main hotel building and the restaurant (and a few more to sea level) to be negotiated several times a day. This is not made clear in the Cosmos brochure which only states that it is not suitable for the less mobile! Good exercise though for the fairly fit.
Very satisfied with Hotel Osmine and would not hesitate to go again.

The scenes are breathtaking as are the many steps required to walk in order to eat or drink during the day.
The reception staff are extremely pleasant and helpful, but unfortunately the bar staff let the Hotel down. They are not at all pleasant and some of them can only be described as openly hostile to 'British' people.
On the whole to accommodation and food is of a good standard but they need to get their act together if they are to get repeat visits from British tourists.

We were offered Hotel Osmine after the original hotel which we had booked on the island of Lopud was overbooked for the week of our visit.
Initially we were disappointed with this last minute change but the tour operator promised a room upgrade plus €100 in expenses as compensation. Needless to say we did not receive either.
We were however collected from the airport in Dubrovnik in a private car so no buses for us or unnecessary visits to hotels en route for drop-offs.
The hotel itself is located about 2 miles from Slano, which is a miniscule fishing village about 50 minutes from the airport. Not worth visiting really but nice to cycle through on a trip around the bay. Our room was tiny with only twin beds even though we had been promised an upgrade. However it was clean and well serviced so nothing serious to complain about.
Food was only ok - nothing to write home about but fills you up none the less. Coffee and cakes by the pool at 4:30 each evening were gorgeous.
Lovely beach and pool with pool bar (free local wine, beer, spirits and minerals etc). Entertainment each evening - either dancing, quizzes, shows or atrocious singing from a two-man band but lots of fun.
I would recommend the hotel for a really quiet relaxing holiday. Staff were lovely - even had breakfast for us at 4:30 in the morning on the day we were leaving!
However you should hire a car and go to Dubrovnik for a day. We also travelled up the coast with our rental car which was well worth while and broke up the week nicely.
Not somewhere to go if you’re looking for nightlife.

Hotel Osmine! 40 minute drive from Dubrovnik out in the sticks.
Hotel ok, Food ok, rooms nice with a nice view of Slano Bay. Staff friendly and helpful. Not much to do in the evenings except to sit in a smoke filled bar/coffee room that was often overcrowded.
The dining room & beach where reached by a series of 112 very steep steps.
The town of Slano is 2.2k from the hotel and consists of post office, 2 small supermarkets, 3 tiny bars and a tourist info office ha!ha! No bus service or taxi - if you are lucky.
Dubrovnik itself is a must to see just book into a more central hotel and avoid Croatians version of the outback.

It's a small resort on the side of a hill ideal for adults and tennagers who want to lie on a sunbed all day. The adventure is a a 20 minute bike ride to the next village.
It's a a blue flag resort with plenty of free sunbeds and umberellas, four free pedelos with slides clear blue sea and the bar around the pool nearby.
No other English people in site as mainly German with a few French and Italian. All very polite. All the staff were able to speak English and made us feel very welcome. Food was great, 4 main meals to choose from each lunch and evening session and in the 7 days none of the main dishes were reapeated.
Only downside its does have 120 steps (benches all the way up) so you need to plan what to take to the beach.
