You want a great view over the sea and harbour? You want to be right in the thick of the bars and restaurants? Then stay here.... Great location if you like to be in the thick of it. The hotel is located overlooking the harbour with its magnificent yachts. There is a tiny patch of sandy beach close to the hotel but otherwise there are very few beaches and even less sand - so be prepared to travel some distance if you like to lounge at the seaside. A wooden platform on scaffolding is available on the other side of the island (10 minute walk) but it gets crowded. Fabulous location and view, the room was huge and the bathroom gorgeous. Rooftop restaurant was great for both dinner and breakfast. You can really get a feel for the Ortygia peninsula from up there. No complaints.

Great hotel located at Ortigia minutes from cathedral square. Nice and large rooms with sea view. Recent remodeling gave it a fresh and clean look inside and out. Staffs are very helpful and attentive (we were some what worried about one negative review but were relieved to experience the opposite). It is within walking distance to most sights but will need a taxi to go to Syracus (around 10 Euros). The top floor restaurant has a great view but the food is bad and expensive. For 5 days in late April 07 we were treated to the lovely views of the four-star Hotel des Etrangers et Miramire, located in a gorgeous area of Ortygia island overlooking the legendary Spring of Arethusa and Syracuse bay. While prices for view rooms were a bit expensive (235€/night) for their size it is better to spend the extra to get a view room if you elect to stay here. Location: Outstanding! Although we had to circle the penninsula once to find it because there weren't any obvious signs that indicated this hotel (it was a one-way street too). We were fortunate enough to be upgraded upon arrival. We paid a decent price, but got a lot of value out of it. First-class treatment right away when we checked in. We were treated very poorly at this hotel. We were a party of five who had booked double deluxe rooms (with extra bed in one room) through Hotels.com. Our rooms were certainly not anywhere near deluxe, did not have a full sea view but instead looked out on a roof containing the cooling equipment for the hotel. If we craned our necks, we could view the sea. As a matter of fact, the rooms were not even in the hotel but in an annex of some sort. We saw no other guests in this annex. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was front facing with a sea view, good size and very clean. We stayed for a week. The towels and linen were changed daily. We couldn't use the shower though, as it flooded the floor. However we don't use a shower anyway as we like baths and the bath was big enough for two!!!!! The location is excellent, right in the old town next to the Fountain of Arethusa, but there are too many disappointing aspects to be able to recommend it. The rooms are not large or particularly well equipped, and although those on the front have lovely views over the harbour, those at the back face over a small square where a disco belts it out nightly until about 3am - and the windows are not double-glazed. We stayed at this hotel the first week of May 2005, and while it has some nice features and a good location we would not give it a 5 star rating. The rooms are a good size but there is very little hanging or storage space and we suspect the hotel is suited mainly to people spending two or three nights rather than a week. There is no information about the hotel or its facilities in the room, if you want to know anything, even the time of breakfast, which was a bit disappointing, you had to ask reception.
