Oct 2011, Mandy..Redcar

Having arrived here at 2.30am,we were very tired and ready for our beds,we checked in and shown to our rooms 503 & 504,on opening the door we could not believe the rooms that awaited us,it can only be described as pure filth,Our bed's were without pillows, blood on the walls in the shape of a handprint, floors and deco very dirty, bathroom was a joke, with thick black mould half way up shower curtain and sink and toilet dirty.....Haven requested pillows,i was shocked to be given what I can ony describe as being absolutely minging, that we had to wrap towels around them (as i would not allow my dog to rest on something as dirty as they were)..At breakfast, which i can only describe as very scarce,i complained to the manager about the state of our rooms, and lack of cleanliness, and requested a move to a differant room, his only reply being "All rooms are the same !!!", my reply being.."What FILTHY ??",After objection,we were moved to a room that i can honestly say,was just as bad !!.I would not reccomend this Hotel to a TRAMP...Staff very ignorant towards the English, and as for overall stay,I felt as if I was staying in Sheltered Accomadation for the elderly. Not reccomended for any person under the age of 60.As for Bitez it's self,it was very Clean with Fantastic Restaurants (Manuella)being our favourite place to eat,and very friendly people.....

on arrival at 5.30am we were shown to our room by a young lad that i later nick named smiler he never asked for a tip nor did any of the other staff apart from sam the man the room was clean but basic and i mean basic . but as we were only using room for sleeping we did not mind this the pool area and breakfast area are set in a well tended garden which is nice and private as you can not see this from the roadside
The staff that ran the place were fantastic and could not do enough for you ZEYNEL the bar man was an absolute treasure and realy made our stay the best ever as did the waiters and reception staff but sam the man was a big pain in the neck no matter which way you left or entered the hotel he would pop up from somewhere and was a bit too much touchy feely with the ladies but if you just gave him a yes or no answer and no other chat he sort of backed off a bit after a couple of days
bitez itself is a nice quiet part of turkey with plenty of restraunts to choose from i would reccommend the one right next to the temple bar which had entertainment every night the bus service is next to none as there just seems to be a bus when ever you want one and costs next to nowt to get to bodrum or gumbet and if you decide to go on any trips go and see huso at the indiana travel on the sea front
on the whole a fantastic holiday with great people good food and sun what more do you want

Inedible Food

Just returned from holiday yesterday at Safir Hotel,Arrived on the 20 September and visited the so called restuarant that evening as we were half board.Sam The Man brought out a crumpled piece of paper and shone a torch on it and said that was the choice which was a bit of a surprise. When the food arrived it was inedible,When I complained I was astonished when he agreed the food was terrible and said it was because it was the end of the season.I spoke to the Olympic Rep the next day at the welcome meeting she said she had phoned the manager who I never seen or met and that was the last I heard of it,Needless to say we ended up eating out everynight during our stay which was very nice but expensive. While Sam The Man is there the Safir will continue to lose guests.Allround nice location this was the only positive for this Hotel,Loud music blaring out all day and I dont care attitude from the staff who seemed to be afraid of Sam The Man never again.

Revamp A.S.A.P!!!! Review staff and management!

Sep 2010, Dissapointed

My wife and I had the misfortune to stay in your hotel early September 2010. Our stay was very unpleseant, the room was small and dark, Furnishing was sun standard, NO fridge!!! A notice on the back of the door saying that any food or beverages found in the room would be removed. The bathroom was small with the tiolet up against the wall which made it nearly impossible to sit on the tiolet properly, the sink was loose from the wall, the shower ran hot and cold with out any assistance. we were quieried about why we didn't eat in the hotel,. The breakfast was cold, as wasn the tea & coffee!! What past as the childs pool was approx 7ft sq and 3ft deep, there was no steps out of the pool either. the main pool's only way out was a step ladder that was barely fastened to the wall. I most definetly will not be returning here for another holiday!!!!!

I have just returned from a one week stay at the Safir hotel, before i went i had read the reviews and was very worried because of the comments previously written. However i took a chance and traveled, on arrival we were greeted by 'SAM THE MAN' a most genial host very helpful and friendly. An elderly Turkish man carried our bags to the room, whom i tipped although is wasn't asked for. The room was small but clean and everything worked, I personally prefer a complete break from television and radio so basic suits me. The breakfast is very basic but you can buy a full breakfast if you wish (€5). Our room was cleaned every day with a towel change every second day. All the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful, the only gripe was during the day the music from the bar, it was very loud coming from the bar but when i asked could it be turned down, the response was positive and immediate. We are in our late 40's and found the entertainment perfect, loads of restaurant's, the main Bar "Temple Bar" was great, music and craic every night and only three minutes walk from the Safir. In summary the Safir is basic but nice and Bitez as a location is brilliant. The Turkish people are the frindliest i have ever met on Holidays.

My partner and I stayed here in...

My partner and I stayed here in August 07, upon arrival we were met by a nice older Turkish guy who took our cases to our room and then promptly held his hand out for a tip, which we couldn't give him as we only had travellers cheques on us!
The room suited us fine as there was only 2 of us, but I did find the bathroom slightly dangerous, no shower tray so everytime either of us had a shower the bathroom basically got flooded and the shelf which we kept our shampoos etc vanished!
The bar was nice and the staff were really friendly, my only major gripe would be the music, it was so loud, it actually woke us up at 10am each morning and sounded like a radio station and continued all day, it would have been ok if you could actually understand what they were saying.
The rooms were cleaned on a regular basis, I did notice that some of the English pound coins which I had put in the bedside draw had vanished, only about £7 so it wasn't a big deal (probably the old guy claiming his tip).
When we checked out on departure day we were almost charged for the air-con, which we never used, according to the guy on reception a card had been purchased for air con and had been used in our room, luckily another guy on reception remembered us from check in day and knew we had declined the air con!
All in all it's not a bad place to stay, it is fairly peaceful despite my music gripe, and the location is ideal, there is a path just across the street which leads you straight down to the beach.

On holiday 10th September - 24th...
1 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr R.M. Montrose

On holiday 10th September - 24th September 2007 bed and breakfast.
Bitez the resort was excellent. Local restaurants were excellent. Local people were excellent. Here's the sting in the tail, the Safir was a big disappointment. On arrival about 16.00 hrs we found, a)the shower curtain and rail assembly in a bundle on the floor with holes in the ceiling where the rail fixtures had broken away. 2) An electrical socket on the bedroom wall had been separated from the back box with the result that the socket complete with exposed wires was hanging off the wall. 3) The room in general and the bathroom in particular were dirty. In the bathroom the wall tiles and floor tiles were covered in what looked like old dried white soap, the basin taps, shower taps and fixings were badly pitted and their was a thick white scum between the basin taps and the back of the basin.
The bedroom floor was dirty, as though somebody had wiped a mop or cloth over it and left marks all over the floor. I reported all these problems to the front desk and was assured the problems would be fixed straight away. We went out for our evening meal and when we returned the shower curtains had been fixed but the rest of the problems remained. Next day we complained to the desk again, we got another assurance that the problems would be fixed that day, they didn't. What about the rep? (who incidentally was supposed to be living at the Safir) could never find him!
On the Monday of the second week I pressed the switch to turn the bathroom light on and the whole assembly fell out of the wall, again exposing all the wires! I reported this but again it was never fixed.
The general cleanliness of the whole place was well below standard, there where a team of young males who were suppose to clean etc but they didn't have a clue. They were smashing lads socially but from where I was standing they lacked supervision and guidance, they seemed to do what they wanted to do, when they wanted. Maybe a woman's organisational skills and a kick up the backside may have helped!!
There where many other more minor problems which I won't go into.
The Olympus brochure describes the Safir as 'basic'. Basic I can handle but not basic and dirty!
It may seem like I'm going on a bit here but I've been having 2 holidays each year on average for the passed 43 years without having to put 'pen to paper' once. So, this puts it into some perspective. I've written to Olympus along with photographs to support my claims. I await their response.

Safir Hotel - 09/2007 2 people - myself and fiancée Half Board
The Safir Hotel was very nice indeed, I'd only managed to find some old reviews for this hotel back from 2001 and they where not very good. However I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the resort and hotel in Bitez - Turkey.
Firstly the Safir hotel is sooo very picturesque and very nicely enclosed, which is nice as no one from the outside can really see in. It's like a little col d sac with three main buildings surrounding a pool holding around 50 people roughly. The rooms are basic but shower is excellent, and always hot or warm (which is more likely as temp can get into 40's outside). The decor of the rooms is nice, brown and cream colours. There is enough space for what you need. Big closet, draws and electronic lights etc which work with key slot. Air con in each room and worked very well for us in room 303. We only stayed there to sleep, cool off or shower, other than that it was pool/beach/pool/beach... lol.
The beach is literally a stones throw away, and has many many many restaurants to choose from, bars are little harder to find but a bus/dolmus ride away and your in the thick of it. Its crazy going to Gumbert or Bodrum as people and business rival London but worth a visit if you need drinks etc, that's where the action is.
The pool was always nice and perfect temp all the time, not to cold and not to hot, perfect for the 40+ heat we had. The bar is also cheap and staff always helpful, if not always understanding due to lack of English speakers. Best brush up on some Turkish words if you stay in Safir. Hello, Goodbye and yes no etc will help a lot.
Main reception guy who speaks very good English is top bloke and will chat for ages, and loves to know more about cultures etc. Always worth finding stuff out from him, you will know him as he's only one part from receptio who speaks good English.
If you can tip the bar staff its a great idea as they are fab and really earn it, as they earn sooooo very little (compared to England) and hard not to feel sorry fro them, they work 145 hour days for pounds in our money, literally giving them £5 or 10tlyra will make them the happiest if not richest peeps around.
Safir hotel is very quiet all in all and pool side time during day is nice, with only background music playing from bar, music did not keep us awake at all any time and all in all I enjoyed my time there.
If you want mega luxury though don't go to Safir as not much in way of entertainment or luxury. However I think Safir is more than worthy of a (should be) 3 star rating and food, cleanliness (cleaned once a day plus new towels/bed sheets etc), air-con, pool, staff and the look of the hotel is top notch and made my Turkey holiday a very nice one.
If your booked to go there, please don't worry as you wont be let down, as with most things you get what you paid for.
The rooms are all fitted with air-con at extra cost you can use, and if you set to COOL, 15 degree, then you wont go wrong. As had on all night once and woke up freezing at 4 in morn, lol.
Safir food is nice, not as good as restaurant but is nice enough if you want to stay in and eat as we had half board, so did eat in every other night :) Good thing is lots of food and can go back as many times as yo like, yay!!
Bitez is quiet town, but everything is cheap, water, clothes, food etc, everything. And restaurants will always give a 10 - 15% discount if you go there, I'd say best restaurant (5 mins from Safir) is next to Temple bar as service and food was top top notch, best view restaurant is Mayflower as up on roof and watching out over beach, perrrfect :)
Go and do the Mud bath trip, long day and long ride but soooo worth it as good laugh and much fun with lots of pic opportunities, also Turkish bath is a must, top stuff and if you can, visit the beaches as again water is luke warm and sooooo nice to swim in, get a sun bed next to waters edge and you wont want to leave.
Turkey is nice in places and dusty in others, but I'm going back next year as weather and heat spoils you and anywhere else just does not compete :)
Last note, Safir Hotel was a great place for us and so very relaxing, close to those perfect beaches, and everyone so nice there. If you need a cheap holiday to mega hot place but don't have that much to spend, go to Safir and you wont be disappointed :)
Thanks Safir for a fab holiday in Bitez Turkey.
Mark and Kellie
