Chromata Hotel

We are from New Jersey and are what you would consider us decently trendy 28 year olds. Chromata's view is unbelievable, but after 5 minutes you want the comfort of your hotel to be great. Our Room which was Room 1 was extremely small maybe at most 100 SQ Feet. The bathroom could not fit 2 people, the shower had a half a door to block water from hitting your toilet - NO JOKE. My wife and I spent half of our honeymoon at the Chromata in October 2004 and had an absolutely amazing stay. The service was top notch from the minute we set foot on the property. We arrived a day earlier than scheduled and the staff was more than accomodating. A glass of champagne awaited us both while our bags were taken to our room. I did not stay at Chromata but visited it. We stayed at Imerovigli which we felt was the second best place to stay after Ia. My husband and I toured the whole island incuding Kamari and wondered WHY in the world would anyone go to Santorini and stay there! What a waste that be! You DON"T go to Santorini for the beach (go to Mykonos for that) - you go for the view! - and I would NEVER go again unless I was right on the rim again. We were greeted with cool glasses of champagne upon arrival. This small hotel is unique and luxurious. With no children allowed to stay on the property, the pool area was relaxing and refreshing. The rooms have a lot of personality and are roomy by European standards. We ate breakfast on our terrace one morning an enjoyed the most spectacular view. My wife and I visited Mykonos and Santorini in May 04 and we would not recommend the Chromata to anyone. Our first entrance was indeed breathtaking, and walking down steps to the hotel in the cliffside was a novelty. The day was clear and the view was stunning. However as we became familiar with the island and stayed longer we ended up very much not liking the Chromata. Chromata hotel is a great experience and a wonderful place to stay. We went for our honeymoon and stayed 5 days in July. I love Greece to begin with, but I had never experienced Santorini. There is no place in the world like Santorini. The beauty, the culture, the lifestyle, what a decadent place! Chromata offered the most incredible view of the caldera and gerat rooms too! This was a terrific place to start our honeymoon. We were upgraded to a bigger suite for the first night (not sure if it was the honeymoon suite) but there was no big advantage to it and were pleased with our ordinary room that we were moved into for the remainder of our 4 night stay. We stayed at the Chromata for one week following the Athens Olympics. We had a transfer from the port - a good idea, since it's rather hectic. After passing through the hot, arid landscape and the crowds of Fira, we pulled into a parking lot and were escorted across a walkway and down a few steps. The Chromata offers the most breathtaking views from the front desk, pool area and steps leading to your room. We were given an upgrade to the "honeymoon suite". Beware....since we were only there for 2 nights we didn't change rooms. The "honeymoon suite" has two bedrooms, an unfinished kitchen behind a screen divider and the tiniest bathroom I've ever seen. I can't even begin to say enough about how fabulous a hotel this is! The location is ideal. Perched high on the cliff you can see everything and sit for hours just staring at the beauty of Santorini. It's only a 20 min picturesque walk into Fira, the capital. Skarros restaurant is right there and we ate there twice because their menu selection was great and the food superb.
