We have visited Palm Bay now 5 times and are going back for the 6th visit with our 2 girls. Set just on the outskirts of Pefkos it is ideal for a quiet relaxing holiday with Pefkos itself only a 10 minute walk away if you want to experience something a bit more lively. ... more

I find it hard to believe that the poor review by someone who stayed B&B here is actually about this wonderful place. As far as I am aware, self-catering is the only option. Nothing in the review seemed to fit the Palm Bay. There is a similar sounding place in Pefkos & I... more

Avoid Avoid Avoid Avoid
I think it's only fair to point out that I am not a fussy middle aged woman. I am a 31 year old male who has stayed in some of the most inhospitable places in the world from Thailand to Fiji to some of the flea ridden hell holes that pass for hostels around the world. It's important you understand this when reading my review. All me and my friends wanted from the Palm Bay was somewhere to lay our heads that was clean and friendly. Having stayed in Pefkos before we knew what to expect with regards the basic nature of the accommodation and were more than happy to accept something on par with the other hotels we had used in the area on previous trips. Upon arriving at the hotel we waited in line to receive our room key. Allocated a key we were pointed to a building over the road and grunted at, I presumed to hint the general direction. After 10 minutes and asking some other guests we found our room. All appeared okay at first. Then we noticed the bugs all over the draining board, the curtains that were torn from their supports and hanging loose and the shower that looked like Shrek had just had a wash in it. We unpacked our things un-phased and went about our evening eating and drinking as you would expect. After trying a night without Air Conditioning the first job the following morning was to pay the manager for 13 nights Air Con. We did this and then went to lie around the pool. The pool had the added interesting feature of the underwater lights floating in the water supported by the rather scary looking 1" thick cable through which it was wired. Again we carried on, spending our money in the bar, eating there at lunchtime and generally enjoying the amazing Greek sunshine. When we returned to our room at dusk the Air Con was not on. We got ready anyway and on our way out told the manager that it was not yet on. He grunted and looked at us like we had asked him for directions to the moon. Our first week on holiday was full of such incidents. We did not get any clean linen for 5 days and when I asked the manager to rectify this he again was run and far from apologetic. But hey I was on my holidays I was in no mood to get mad. It finally got changed. After a week of spending our hard earned Euros in his bar and sleeping in the room from hell, with its lack of cleaning service and intermittent electricity supply (the electric went off ALL THE TIME. Our friends arrived to stay for 7 days for a wedding we were all attending. This is when things started to become really upsetting. Upon their arrival even though it was late evening they were told to wait for 2 hours for their rooms... These people then paid for air con in good faith. Some of them never ever got the air con to work. 2 young girls in their 20s politely asked abut this and were threatened by the manager and an elderly couple who were with us had similar problems and got no relief. One day we even caught him collected Li-los that people had left by the pool , cleaning them and reselling them in his shop. We spent most of our time in the hotel next door which was incredible only returning home to shower and change in our often electric free room. On the final evening never having had a real cross word with the owner our electric went off as we prepared for an evening out. I had by this point had more than enough. I along with a number of other guests headed to the bar which also acted as the reception to complain. As usual it was unattended and we all stood and compared horror stories as we waited 10 minutes for the member of staff to pull up in his car and help us. He was rude and after yelling he rung the manager. When the manager came a lovely lady from Liverpool quietly asked what was going on and he was threatening, unapologetic and overall obnoxious in his tome towards her. I informed him that he was running the worst hotel in Greece and that he should have more respect for people who had put there faith in his hotel and their money in his pocket. He started to yell. I yelled back I am ashamed to say and basically told him to get the electric on PRONTO. He said it was a problem with the island's electric supply...odd really considering the room next door was working okay!? The day we came to check out me and my girlfriend went to ask the manager for a refund for the 5 nights that the air-con had not worked. The last such occasion being our final night. Meaning I had not slept and had to fly and then drive the 2 and a half hours after the flight home. Not good... I said nothing, still smarting from the exchange the day before. He told me that I was too young to yell at him and that he would have hit me had I said anymore to him the day before. I smirked and simply told him that we were leaving and all we wanted was the 5 night's money refunded and that he would never see us again. He gave my girlfriend the money and we turned to leave. It was then that in front of the full bar he started to berate me. Informing me that he would 'cut me', I turned to face him and he then told me he would 'cut me into pieces', my girlfriend grabbed my arm and we left. It is important to realise that my girlfriend is a travel agent and booked the holiday in good faith after the reviews on this site. She was upset to have let everyone down but more upset with the threats towards myself. We found out from some local people that the hotel had been a family operation until 10 months ago and had since had many guests requesting alternative accommodation and a high number of complaints. This explains the good reviews on here. But mark my words this hotel is the worst hotel I have ever, ever stayed in. And the manager has no right to have such lovely people as we had staying with us in his care. I pray the travel company realise this and stop using this shoddy, badly run, unsafe, unclean place once and for all…and soon. *Electric supply failed over a dozen times in 2 week *Air conditioning system faulty in most rooms *No reception area so no help outside working hours *Room cleaned 4 times in 2 weeks *Abusive threatening management *Staff who come and go leaving you to wait up to 20 minutes at bar *Broken unsafe pool lighting By all means go to Pefkos..just dont dare stay here. Search for the Coralli next door they were sooo kind to us.
Avoid at all costs
I stayed at Palm Bay Studios in August 2008 as I was visiting Rhodes to attend my best friends wedding. There were 18 of the wedding party staying at Palm Bay with the rest of the party staying at the hotel right nest door called Corralli's. We arrived at the studios at 7pm after travelling all day. When we got there we attended the pool bar which was acting as a reception area, only to be told that our rooms were not ready. We had to wait 2 hours for our rooms to be "cleaned" before we could get rid of our cases. We were hot and tired and wanted our rooms. Eventually we were shown to our rooms by a very grumpy and rude man who I found out to be the manager. The rooms were basic which I was prepared for but they were not clean. We had ants in the bed, toilet, shower and sink. We had to wear our flip flops to shower in as it was filthy with hair, sand and dirt. We had to wait 5 days to receive fresh towels and bedding and the room was never cleaned throughout the week. The main problem we all suffered was the air-conditioning which we had paid good money for. There was not an evening that it did not break and some nights we had to go all night without it which was unbearable in 30 degree heat. There were customers sleeping on floors, balconies and even on the sunloungers to escape the heat of the bedrooms. Also half of the apartments went without electricity every night and had to shower in the dark. The manager was very unhelpful and aggressive. His answer was; move somewhere else if you are not happy. All I can say was thank god for the Corralli Apartments which were situated right next door. During the week of our holiday we ate there (the food is fantastic) and used all their facilities. The apartments there were clean and the staff were fanatasic and could not do enough for us. As for Palm Bay I would never return and have never experienced accomodation like it. My advice is avoid at all costs!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
I am a travel agent and booked these studios for a group of us that were going to Pefkos for a wedding. Firstly i cannot believe the positive reviews that are on this review site as these reviews on tripadvisor are the reason i booked the Palm Bay in the first place!! I realise this is a basic propertie which i have no problem with but in the 2 weeks i stayed we had maid service about 4 times! I dont mind how basic a place is as long as its clean, which it wasnt but this was due to lack of cleaning. The main problem we had was with the staff, EVERYTHING was too much trouble for them. We paid for air conditioning for 2 weeks and within that time the electricity went off 5 times which left us with 5 sleepless nights as it was too hot to sleep! Not eveybodys electric went off which made it even more frustrating! Some people were actually sleeping around the pool on sunbeds in the middle of the night because it was so hot, others on balconies and the floor! The problem was that when we told the manager about it instead of an apologie and to be assured it would be rectified all we got was agressive behavior and even threatening sometimes. He actually said he was going to 'chop my boyfriend into pieces' at one point-unbelievable!!! To sum up these people have No idea how to speak to guests and run a hotel for that matter so if you want a stressfull, upsetting holiday stay here, if you want a relaxing fantastic time stay at the Corralli apartments next door they are AMAZING.
Loved this hotel
I loved this hotel - stayed there for 2 weeks and had a great time. It is very basic, so anyone wanting a really swanky room etc don't come, but anyone just wanting a nice, clean room in lovely surroundings, a very short, easy walk to Pefkos and with a lovely beach at the end of the pool, stay here. The owner can't be more helpful and the barman is a good laugh. I would defintately stay here again, and hope to soon!
Lovely!
Booked a cheap week's holiday at Palm Bay via Olympic Holidays. Basic self-catering accomodation but very clean and the owner, Mykalis was great. Weather was fantastic and we went outside of school hols so very few children were around to disturb our peace! Pool was lovely and beach about 1 min from the pool. Great restaurant next door (Corrali's) which we wish we'd found earlier. Pefkos was an easy 10 min stroll away and had loads of restaurants & a great beach. We ate out most of the time but if you want to eat in then pack knives, forks & a teaspoon ;-) Local buses passed regularly & this was much cheaper than trips organised by Olympic. We took a boat trip into Lindos from Pefkos which was a beautiful way to arrive in this fantastic old town. Rhodes is full of English people so very touristy but we had a lovely relaxing stay and would recommend Pefkos and Palm Bay.
great hotel, great staff, great location, fantastic people
I came across this accommodation after moving out of a supposedly higher rated hotel closer to the town. It was an excellent move I made and when I return to Pefkos in the future, I will definitely book to stay here even if I have to do it independently. It was ultra clean, friendly, reasonable, good food and well-located for the beach. Thank you to the staff for making my holiday so enjoyable.
Absolutely fabulous
Best place we have stayed in Pefkos. Owner cannot do enough for you. Beautiful location. Great pool. Good company. Crazy barman! Quiet beach right at back of pool. Beach with sunbeds & Kantina short stroll further. Bus stop right outside Palm Bay. Own taverna with yummy food. We never want to stay anywhere else in Pefkos now. No criticisms. Perfect in our eyes. Late checkout very good deal - owner would have given it for free but Terry insisted he paid something as we thought they went out of their way to help with all aspects of the holiday. The owner actually remembered us staying at another hotel in 2004 (!) - he told us where we stayed and remembered us going in the bar at Palm Bay. Amazing when you think how many people they see. I just had an urge to delete this review - don't want too many people going to Palm Bay as we may not be able to get a booking!
Fell in love with Palm bay
We booked our holiday on the net with Olympic Hols to palm bay in 2004. On arrival we didnt think much to our room but we haddent been to Greece before so just thought this must be how it is.Very basic kitchen etc.Ants in kitchen area so had to by some cleaning solutions to get rid of them,no big deal.We grew to love it as the days passed, just popping down 2 mins away to get fresh veg with tomato's the size of small footballs and eating the food on our own little private area was a dream. Staff were all ok ,even the funny bar tender we called "loser" after we bet him at pool several times. Pool is great just over the road and you are far enough away from the main town to not hear any unwanted noise at night. A must is the glass bottom boat trip, skipper is a star and we got a lovely trip to lindos, you get a surprise on the boat too which you will have to go on to find out what that is. Lindos is stunning too ,a must to see.Try the giros! We hired a car from the hotel which was a great way to see Rhodes, you wont go far wrong with this place if you get in it's so popular. We are off there again this september have fun!!
What a scorcher !
Stayed here with my wife for the first 2 weeks of August last year (06). The previous review has it covered to be honest. It was the standard greek accomodation, light n airy and clean n tidy. We had no option but to have the aircon as it was the hottest time of year out there. Not one mosquito bite thankfully. The showers were luke warm most of the time but this was quite refreshing. The pool area was nice and clean with plenty of sunloungers, i was down there each day for around 8.30 and had my pick more or less. The bar restaurant area was nice and shaded also spacious. It has a 9ft pool table and air hockey table. Good selection of beers and cocktails. The food menu was good too we ate there on a few occasions and had breakfast there most mornings. The staff were all excellent and not afraid to dish out the free shots from time to time. I would recomend this hotel to couple and families alike as its good value and well located. Dont expect ritz style accomodation - this is greece afterall. Its a case of getting what you pay for. This was our 6th time in Greece and by far the hottest. We would definately go back.
Excellent holiday
Just clicked on Palm bay to see what good reviews this place must have, and was surprised there were no reviews at all!! Anyway! Me and my partner went to Palm Bay last year August(2006). Weather: Blazing hot! I got the best suntan ive ever had! Slightly breezy sometimes, making the sea a bit rougher but not too often to complain about, never a cloud in the sky! Pefkos area: 5-10 min walk from hotel, plenty of shops, restaurants and bars, not any clubs or places to have a dance. But Lindos and Lardos are a short taxi drive away, which also have plenty shops, restaurants, bars (didnt check out the clubs though?) Beaches: The hotel leads straight onto the beach, no sunbeds there though, but again short 5-10 min walk and you have a choice of 3/4 lovely beach spots, not too crowded either! Hotel: Small family run self-catering hotel, beautiful pool right next to the bar/restaurant. Kids pool also. Great staff, Michalis the owner, very sweet and helpful, Giovanni bar staff very friendly and welcoming. Rooms are basic, air con is extra cost but boy is it powerful! Got cold most nights, (probably not needed). Cleaner didnt come every day, we had to ask her to clean our room and leave some towels on some days! We ate in the resturant a couple of times, food good, huge portions! Excursions: excellent, definitely reccomend day trip to Turkey (dont forget your passports..we almost did!) and scuba diving, the picnic on the boat was by far the best, bring your costume cos you get to jump off the boat at various spots. And go upstairs and talk to the cap-it-aan! He doesnt speak very good english but very interesting and chatty! We found it cheaper to make our own way to the water park, getting on the bus was interesting, their buses are air conditioned, clean coaches! It also meant we could spend as long as we liked there rather than leaving early as with the excursion. Holiday rep: Our holiday rep was less than helpful, we actually heard a lot of complaints about her, not organising peoples excursions not telling people details they needed to know. But we didnt let that ruin our holiday. I think ive covered everything! All in all beautiful quiet place, not really for young single club goers, but couples and families would love it.
