We arrived in the early evening and the room looked very nice except for the abundance of mosquitoes. When checking the bathroom, the window would not close as the catch was defective so after a night of constant swatting and bites I asked at reception for them to fix the window. I then had a lecture about mosquitoes not entering through the open window and later in the day was informed in a rude and condescending manner that they prefer the window to be open. When I politely pointed out it was me and my family that had to endure the biting, I was told to find another hotel.
The staff were quite pleasant with the exception of the owner and a receptionist but there was an underlying sense of things not being as they should. The air con was charged at 7 euros per night and all in all the place was unwelcoming and definitively not child friendly.
We moved to the Kalithea Sun resort which was older, tattier but significantly better in terms of service and friendly staff.

Loved these apartments - the gardens and main hotel complex were immaculately kept, our room was clean, a good size, and we always had hot water!
We were also pleased to find we had a huge balcony directly overlooking the pool.
The staff were always friendly and helpful, towels and linen were changed regularly, and the buildings themselves looked as though they were maintained and painted regularly too.
The pool is large and clean, with plenty of sun loungers, and it only took us 5 minutes to walk down to the main road where there are a variety of good restaurants.
Rhodes town is 10 minutes away by taxi, and the beach is a 10-15 minute walk away.
All in we had a great time staying at these apartments and would definitely go back.

We arrived very early in the morning, the gentleman on the night reception showed us to our room which comfortable.
When we went down to breakfast the next morning we were very pleasantly surprised.
There was a very good selection of food for breakfast; I recommend the Greek yogurt with honey! Mmm!
This hotel is absolutely spotless clean and the decor is fresh and modern. It has a minimalistic dining room/bar.
The pool is quite large and would be very pleasant given warm weather. October is nice but can be quiet cool at times, not really poolside weather.
The only downside that there was the mossies, the lack of entertainment, and the fact you have to walk nearly a kilometre to get to the main road.
The flights back to Glasgow do not leave till 6am and you do not get to stay in your room after 12pm the previous afternoon. It cost another €55 to be able to stay in the room until early evening, that I found a bit harsh.
Overall I would go back to this hotel again.

We arrived at 6.30am in the morning. Not the greatest time to get into you holiday hotel. The night manager was very pleasant, although he did not speak much English he did manage to show us to our rooms.
This hotel is very clean and airy. The lounge was pleasantly fresh in decor and the furniture was modern and fresh, very Ikia! My favourite!
The breakfast was typically Greek, fresh Greek yogurt and honey yum! There was also the usual breakfast foods there too! I had never tasted Greek yogurt and honey before, now I'm converted, it was delicious!
The gardens and pool were beautiful and clean. Unfortunately I only tried to get into the pool once, not recommended in October, it was very cold! But then again I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to cold water! There is only one evening that has entertainment on, that is a Tuesday the same night that the Greek night in Afandou. The manager did tell me that they are planning to lay on more nights entertainment next summer season.
Overall I thought this hotel was very nice and I certainly would plan to return.

The staff at the Summerland were top notch, can’t say the same about the entertainment though. This was probably because we were a bit of the beaten track.
Only 5 mins walk was a hotel run by a British woman and her husband(think he was Greek). They held quizzes, pool tournaments etc and would always put Sky News or Sports on for you.
The room in Summerland was pretty basic as you'd maybe expect from self catering in the Med. Kept very clean and bins emptied regularly. Pool was a very good size, no complaints at all.
Places to go include Trianda,Rhodes,Lindos and the waterpark at Faliraki(you'll probably get burnt, we all did, but it’s a fabulous day out).
To eat, The Napoli on Ixia's main road was fantastic and the staff very friendly and just a bit further on the same side is Fat Sam's Bar, also nice. Let us down with their efficiency. One time we left before they brought the order cos it was taking ages! Whispers was also very nice.
Try not to take too many travellers cheques. We found them a bit of a pain.
In Rhodes we were stopped by timeshare people, all sounds very good but recommend you give a wide berth to them.
Main supermarket, Nani's, on the main road was cheapest if you wish to prepare your own food. Can of beer very cheap compared to the price charged at the Apts bar but have a few drinks with Stelios, he’s ace. Make sure you get the complimentary peanuts with your drinks order.
In summary, had a very good time, would return to Greece but probably to another hotel/area.
