Would go back to Rhodes but DEFINITELY not this hotel!!
from markkita
After flight delays at Gatwick we finally arrived at hotel Iris at 1:00am. We were met at reception by what we assumed was the night porter who showed us to our room. Enquiring about food we were offered pizza, chips or toast at a charge despite being all inclusive due to it being after 11:00pm. The room was basic. Air-con was an extra charge of 7 euros per day!! On day 3 we were told we had to move rooms claiming to be for our comfort! When really it was so he could fit more people into that room. In the new room the fridge was held together with black tape and leaked, the shower had no pressure valve so if not held it just thrashed around, bathroom always flooded because the shower curtain did not fit. maid service was supposed to be daily. For our week long stay we had 2 towels between 2 of us and sheets were not changed at all! Curtains in the bedroom were to small to fit the window. all inclusive food and drink normally means all day but limited times were strictly stuck to for food and drink anything out of these time limits were chargeable. Food was cold and never enough for the amount of people in the hotel often tasting disgusting, and all members of staff bar Georges nephew were rude and unhelpful! Just to finish off the holiday a coach load of polish school children descended upon us taking over. Mark and Nakita - UK

Dear Sir/Madam.We advised to you to change room and go to a dbl for bigger space as your room was up to 4 pax and you were very happy to change! Concerning the towels we change them 3 times a week as per our cleaning service ! for the A/C you mention that is not for free was written on your voucher! About the food we are sorry that you did not liked as the tastes in some people are different.

just back from the hotel iris afandou and loved every second. Stayed in Rhodes many times but this small hotel has to be the best of the bunch. Dont expect five star luxury its vey basic but the room was cleaned and bed changed every day of our stay. The kitchen is a bit of a joke and if you wish to eat in i would advise bringing a kettle and a toaster as none are provided.Air conditioning was a must as the temp soared into the forties.70 euro for the fortnight.Great supermarket down the front road and to the left five minutes away. The way to Afandou is at the back steps of the hotel up an interesting dirt track. Hotel staff were excellent and did their best for us.We had the pool to ourselves most days as no one seemed to bother with it.Overall an excellent base for a fabulous holiday.
basic but delightful
from MWLG
the rooms are basic but comfortable and clean,as is the pool area.there is a laid back yet friendly atmosphere.the balconies on the upper two floors offer excellent views and are spacious enough for 6. we went self carering, without the catering(we ate out),this i feel is the best option as there are many well priced eating places close by,in afandou, which is a gem of a place. the locals really treat you as a welcome guest, and bar and taverna prices wont be beaten on rhodes. the hotel is on a steep hill which unfortunately may make it difficult for some people, however if this a minor consideration do not let this put you off. people return to this area not for years but for decades. honest.
you get what you pay for

We staied there 2nd half september 2006. We think it is a very good location for that price. The studios are in a place full of green and flowers, which are lovely. The reception service is basic, friendly. You can rent a car, a moped through them, ask them to call a taxi. They speak quite a good English. The rooms are extremely basic. Cleanliness is not perfect but also not too bad. Dustbins are emptied every day, linen get changed 3 times a week. You can cook some simple meals in your own room. There are no windows, so when it' s very hot, a/c could become necessary for people not used to hot countries. Rooms at the ground floor have their independent entry. There is a fantastic pool with chairs and umbrellas, where you can spend some very good time. At the pool bar, drinks and simple meals are served by Ms. Emily. Be kind to her, and she will be kind to you. You can choose wether to have breakfast at the pool bar, or to do it yourself. There' s a path leading to the Afandou Village, when you can eat at any price. We liked "Tasty" tavern, and also "Eleni". There are some tradiotional Greek bars where you can drink the typical Greek coffee if you like it; as well as some "English" pubs with tv, where you can drink some beer, listen to music or watch football matches. Not far from the Iris (5 minutes), there' s a supermarket. The beach is about a 20 minute walk, so I suggest this Hotel to those who like to walk. Most of the beach is free but has no services. There are some tavernas along the southern side of the beach, which are more expensive than those in the village center, but you eat a REAL good fish there. Finally: Iris is a very simple, basic place, but I think you get what you pay for.

just returned from a 2 week stay here we were in room 307 which jutted out (others 306 /312/315/318) on top floor as reqested, we had 3 sides to balcony others were set back with 2 sides & others only had a front view all faced the sea, rooms on level 1 had no privacy as the path was right in front of them.we had the sun till 3pm,we had 3 single beds for 2 of us some had twin beds & bunk beds apartment not too cramped, kitchen basic greek, apartments 2 *, bathroom even had a shower curtain ( even though it had mould on it) the linen & towels were not changed twice a week & the bins were not emptied daily until I complained pool area< I dont think it was ever hosed down, pool seemed to be cleaned daily, sunbeds dirty after rain, plenty of them maybe not in summer, pool 2/3 size of standard english pool small library, food & drink dearer than village small beer 2 euros glass wine 3 euros, in village large beer 2 euros, 1/2 litre housewine 3 euros food only served 8am - 7pm so to eat at night you have to walk to village a brisk 10 min walk 1/4 mile go up steps beside pool onto a dusty track for 100 metres then onto a tarmac track ( dont wear good shoes)dont need torch, building work just behind iris dusty & noisy at times, it is uphill coming back, not suitable for wheelchairs pushchairs difficult hugh supermarket down drive to main road turn left 5 min walk , they sell everything steep climb back bus timetables at reception from main road & village 1e70c to rhodes ,go before10 am or buses will be full both to rhodes & lindos. olympic trip to greek night 43 euro in village make own way there & back best to book in village only 20 euros for the same night & they pick you up, other trips similar prices best to check out. little train runs fromsquare every hour most of day to beach 1 euro each way no restaurants at beach snack bars only. we liked tastys restaurant best opposite michalitskas upstairs 20-25 euros for 2 main courses 1/2 litre house wine 1 large beer, grilled prawns only 9 euros, as main road runs through narrow streets there is a lot of traffic noise ther are 2 restaurants off main road life garden behind michalitskas also thetis (greek taverna) opposite 1 of gates into life garden, not much choise pork chop good housewine poor mimis offers a 2 course meal for 6 euros salad & main course + free dessert board changes often , try their lunch special ,gyro on plate with chips tomato tsatsiki only 1 euro 70 cents, not many places to eat at luchtime 4 seasons food ok but they put a 10% service charge on
Excellent location
from Guetreal
The Iris Hotel is situated on a hill looking out over the sea and surrounding areas. It has an excellent terrace in front of the hotel where the views are quite spectacular. Beautiful pink flowering trees adorn the balconies and gardens. The rooms are basic but exceptionally clean. As are the pool, the garden and all the surrounding areas. Each room has outside access and 1st and 2nd floor rooms, a balcony area. The swimming pool is truly superb and ideally located next to the snack bar serving delicious food to suit all tastes, for a fraction of the usual tourist prices. The hotel is only a five minute walk away from Afandou town, which is an absolute delight. The town is yet to be spoilt by tourism. On the way down the hill you will walk through the back streets and pass the 'real Greeks' sitting outside their houses in the traditional way. The Restaurants and Cafe's are numerous, all serving excellent food at half the price of the bigger towns. I can't wait to go back to this lovely hotel with its friendly staff and lovely location. You would never regret a holiday spent here.
A Great Location for those who want to relax
from bf_mary
The iris studios are basic, so dont expect much in the rooms itself, however for the price it is perfect, the pool is above average and the staff are friendly. Above all the resort is safe and clean and ideal to unwind and relax. It's a short walk from the beach and to Afandou town, where pretty much all the restaurants offer great value and good quality food. It is perfect for a 7 night break and Rhodes offers a couple of sights worth visiting such as the acropolis in Lindos and Rhodes town itself. Symi, a little island near rhodes is well worth the visit, however be prepared for the two hour ferry trip there and back!! (September 2005)
The Jewel of Rhodes

As a party of three, myself, wife and 13 year old son, we found the Iris a really pleasant hotel to spend our two week holiday. We arrived at about 5.30am on a hot May morning and were met by the most helpful of staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. O.k. The room was basic to a point but taking it all round you get what you pay for, and as far as we were concerned we got a lot more than we paid for in this instance. It was fantastic for my wife and myself to sit on the balcony shortly after we arrived with a nice cup of coffee and watch the sunrise, it was a beautiful and very romantic sight. The hotel itself has a wonderful large pool, which can be used by others not staying at the hotel but at no point was it over run with other tourists. The large expanse of room around the pool made it easy to always get access to a sun bed or chair. Although the pool is very large it does have a raised paddling pool for younger children which is totally safe, but as with all water based activities young children should always be supervised by their parents. The town of afantou is only a very short walk from the hotel down a back lane and can be a bustling little place with any kind of shop that you could possibly require, from newsagents to department stores, and yes, there is an electrical one at the bottom end of town. A good variety of cafe's and restaurants are available all the way throughout the town to suit all kinds of tastes and budgets. After sampling the majority of these establishments during the first week of our holiday. We finally found ourselves constantly descending on two places. The Village cafe in the evening (where I could not praise my wife away from the highly techno fitted loos) especially after a few drops of her favorite Drambuie, and the other one was Anna's Cafe just a few doors up where we mostly dined and had some splendid evenings with owners who were just fantastic people. Guess where we are going again next year! Back to the hotel. Every room is fitted with a cooker-cum-fridge unit. Whilst the cooker is little more than useless for people wanting to cook a Sunday lunch, just two electric rings, it is highly sufficient for boiling water, and what more do you really want on a holiday like this, after all it is cheap enough to eat out at any time of the day in Rhodes. All the rooms are of a high standard when it comes to cleanliness. The bathroom was spotless and so were all the others I looked in, yes, I checked out other rooms as well. The showers were highly reliable and wonderfully refreshing after a days walking, although we did hire a car and a couple of motorbikes, but you still can't beat a lovely walk every now and then. The bed linen was far above average and again was always clean and well laundered. This hotel can safely be recommended to anyone looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday, although if you do have energetic teenagers this may not be the place for you. Those with toddlers also seemed to struggle for suitable entertainment locally. We did hear a few moans and groans from other guests about the cooking facilities, the 20 minute walk to the beach and lack of evening entertainment, but overall the Iris is a lovely well managed hotel for decent people and I'm happy to say we did not encounter any loutish behavior of any kind. If your thinking of heading off to the Iris, have a great holiday, you will love it, but it might be an idea to pack a few travel games as we did have to sit out a very spectacular storm one day that not everyone wanted to watch. Advice: If you enjoy a cuppa when you first arrive it would be a very good idea to pack powdered milk and coffee sachets or tea bags. We did get a welcome pack that consisted of a bottle of water tucked away in the fridge, but there was nothing else. Luckily my wife packs for ALL eventualities.... I'm sure I saw a washing machine and microwave in her luggage, it certainly felt like they were in that huge case she insisted on taking. There is also an International Hypermarket a short stroll from the hotel where you can buy just about anything. While we were there they had Tents, patio furniture and even CARS for sale as well as foodstuffs. It's certainly worth a look and the prices were good. Beware of a visit to the Water Park, it can work out very expensive. For three of us it would have cost the best part of 60 Euros and with food and drink on top of that it can lead to a very expensive day for those on a tight budget or at the beginning of their holiday. When you think that we hired a car for a week for 110 Euros you get an idea of why we offer a friendly warning. Stan & Kathy Wallwork, Atherton, Manchester, England
What a lovely place to stay
from mealo
I stayed at the Iris in June for a week. I have been to Rhodes and Afandou many times and although not stayed at this hotel before, I have had the use of its pool. So I knew I was in for a treat!! Probably the best bits of this hotel are the outdoor areas. The pool area is great, the pool itself is great, the views are outstanding. The balcony had beautiful bright pink flowers draping over it, all the apartments look out towards the sea. The area arround the apartments was so clean and well kept. There is direct access to each apartment from outside, which is lovely. The hotel is quite a modern style building. Very light and airy and spacious. Such a wonderful change from hotels with dark corridors! There are all the facilities you need to enjoy your stay. Snack bar by the pool - the food is simple and good, excellent value for money. Chicken souvlaki on pita bread for 1.75 euro. There is a bar which will stay open as long as you want to drink, 24 hour reception, safety deposit boxes, exchange and fans for hire. There is table tennis and pool. The rooms are basic but adequate. Most importantly they are clean. There is no air conditioning though so it can get very hot - as you would expect. The hotel is ideally located for the village centre, but in a very quiet area with a stunning view. You can use a little shortcut down a track at the back of the hotel, it's about a 5 minute stroll into the heart of the village. I would definately recommend the Iris to anybody who is not too concerned with having a basic room, I think it's value for money that cant be beaten!!!
